Rotary FX?
in Helix
I've sometimes put a rotary in parallel with a cab, to add back a bit of top end. I've also tried lowering the mix control very slightly instead, letting a tiny bit of the raw amp sound with no cab sim through. Obviously you don't want a lot of that, it's kind of a slight of hand thing, not an organically righteous way to go, but the rotary comes off pretty dull to me without some sort of treatment. The VST rotaries I have are the same, probably because they're like that in real life.
Exactly what I do, just like Mr Gilmour does in real life

Rotary FX?

I think there great. I find it good to turn the horn up a wee bit!

One more question from a Variax noob..I recently got a Standard, and really am not yet real comfortable with the Workbench software, sorta waiting for the Helix integration..but if I wanted to find that Brian may model, could you point me in the right direction? CHeers to you as well
Hi, there is a link in the description of a video that Richie castalano did. If your struggling to follow it send me your email address and I will send you the models so you can just load them in. It won't be till the weekend though 😀

I don't know if an official acoustic amp would solve this but I have a JTV Variax and I find the acoustic sims to be a bit anemic. They work and are convincing but I would love something that would give them more fullness or body, for lack of a better word. I've tried all of the EQ and mic preamp options. And many of the Guitar/Bass amp options. I have an old Variax and I had an X3 which had alot more mic preamp options. I had a Variax/mic preamp combo for the old acoustic sims that sounded fantastic to me so I know Line 6 can do it.
How about trying an acoustic IR to liven them up?

Nice job!
Ditto! One of my all time favorite rock guitar players!
Thanks 😀

This is very excellent!
Cheers bro 😀

Just in case CBTL does not check this for a while. His Brian May preset can be found here: http://line6.com/customtone/tone/2813554/
He also has some Pink Floyd presets here: http://line6.com/customtone/search/?submitted=1&family=helix&search_term=CBTL
Thanks honest!

Hmmm.... that seems like an odd implementation to me. I've never tried it but I don't question your observation. Perhaps you could get around it by using snapshots to change the pickup selector position rather than manually changing the switch?
Thanks silverhead, basically what I'm trying to do is change my tone control into variable mid boost like Claptons strats with tone up full on all pickup selections on the strat model. If I stay on one pick up it works very well indeed.

Probably the single most valuable post on the site. I refer to it all the time. Bravo good man.

On the Input block where Variax is selected, set the Lock control parameter to Lock Tone. This should prevent the tone from changing when you rotate the knob to control another parameter.
Cheers man, this does work however, if you say go from neck to bridge it reverts to the tone setting as per the knob position!
-
I want to assign some parameters to my tone control on the variax however when I rotate it as well as the parameters changing so does the tone! Is there a way to stop this from happening? I basically want to be able to leave the tone at 10 for all the strat positions and use the control for something completely different! Hope I make sense.

I'm using helix usb 8 to record the vocals for my videos in adobe audition. Regardless of what mic I use I get a terrible high frequency noice. Putting it through the spectral anyliser shows a consistsn line at 8 + 16000 htz. Now its easy enough to notch them out but why is it happening? Anyone any ideas?

Hey guys, here is my latest vid. This one covers Breathe, Time and Money. The others will be in Part 2. Let me know what you think 😀 Customtone link in the description.

Just to be clear, the stock cabs ARE IRs. This discussion should be "I prefer the stock cab IRs to third-party IRs".
Really? Even with all the vairiables like mic, distance, er ?

Really digging the sounds I'm getting with the helix but keep feeling that I could learn something from the presets for sale from the Yoda-like Helix masters. Using Line 6 L3T as my powered speaker. Any suggestions? Using the Helix for live purposes rather than the studio if that makes difference. Something that totally blew u away and you use daily in your arsenal to rock the world!
What tones are you trying to achieve? Do a bit of research and try yourself, you maybe surprised!

I'm with you brother! Stock cabs for me all the way.

Fantastic video and some extremely authentic Brian May tones there. He consistently got some of my favorite guitar tones of all time. Many thanks also for uploading this preset to CustomTone. You are very talented at designing presets! :)
Thanks man, you have genuinely made my day! I thought people might think they were rubbish 😕 I will be doing more and will post on here as I do them. Iv learnt so much from this forum from peeps like yourself so thank you.

Firstly, sorry about the poor vocals, I'm trying to work this recording thing out! Also m, sorry for my less than perfect playing 😳 Any how, I think the tones are pretty good. I would be nice to hear what people think.

Would love one of these on Helix 😳

Iv heard you can make an impulse response if you have an isolated guitar track from a recording, personally I would not know how! I'm looking for an IR for Brian Mays Deacy amp. I wouldn't imagine that line 6 would ever model the amp, its it's far too one dimensional. Can any one point me in the right direction of how too, the tracks are easy to cone by 😕

Best thing you can do is sit with the helix and work out yourself. Do some research for the original equipment used and go from there. You will learn so much! There are no short cuts to be had with the unit, you just have to dive in and try.
