I plugged in my DT25, loaded up a Twin-based patch, disabled the IR and Cab, and tweaked the output settings to the DT. While I'm not 100% sure of the function of all the output menu items, it worked great right away and gave me a sound very close to the sound I had from the DI patch. I'm loving that it's now that easy, and built a few patches for use directly to the DT.
Added the Moogerfooger model to my go-to setup, and went through all the stock patches, with some really great results.
Overall, I'm quite pleased and enjoyed tweaking. Tonight we gig!

After 7 years in HD land, I upgraded to a Helix LT yesterday. Can’t wait to hook it up to my DT25 and find out how those 2 great tastes taste great together!

Yep, I voted for Helix>DT too. I'm afraid there just aren't enough DT users to justify the programming, or maybe the DT uses on-board preamps rather than the HD's progrmamed one, thus can't use Helix via L6 Link?
DT integration would be the straw that broke my wallet's back and I'd be ordering a Helix LT if it was announced.

I've been thinking about this setup also. Use HX Effects with a 3-cable (1/4"+2xMIDI) connection to the DT25, then use the HXFX to send signals to switch amp, topology and Class data to the DT, utilizing the onboard preamp models, and get my effects from the HX. Improved effects would result, but I don't know if I'd get $600 worth of inspiration to offset the ease and familiarity the HD series gives me when paired with the DT. Not only that, pre/post effects would require another pair of FX Send/Returns, and I'm just a little butthurt that a single L6 cable can do ALL those things and more, but it isn't an option on any Helix model. So, I'll wait til someone else tries it for me, and think about it then. In the mean time, the current combination does what I need, so I'll resist the constant, pressing GAS.

Since you would not be able to do that thru the Variax, it would have to
be done looping it thru the FX Send and Returns on HD500.
But, I think you can achieve nearly the same result - how about this - insert a volume pedal after other pedals but before the amp, and then set the volume control on the Variax to control the pedal, rather than the guitar output, which is set to 100%. Or, use the tone control for the volume pedal, and the volume control for the guitar output pre-effects. Isn't this the same as an OBEL? Since the volume and tone controls are assignable with Variax/HD, won't this achieve the same result?

I'm wondering if anyone has used the Variax/HD500 (and maybe DT) to simulate an On-Board Effects Loop. The purpose of an OBEL is to bring the post-effects sound back into the guitar in order to keep the effects sound consistent and not subject to the output volume of the guitar. Put another way, when you typically turn the volume on your axe down, the lower output cleans up the signal from the effects. Using an OBEL means this won't happen, and the volume now controls the output, post effects. An OBEL was famously used by Jerry Garcia.

On the Variax, you can use the HD 500 to assign the guitar volume control to operate the amp volume rather than the guitar pickup output (when using modeled pickups). I think this would achieve the same effect: the output of the Variax to the effects remains constant, but the post-effect output volume varies.
Has anyone here used this method to achieve a similar result?

So, Col. Forbin - Using your above method, could i choose one topolgy I like (for example, I) and erase Channel B of Topology slot IV, but then leave the other 7 available Top/channel presets to their defaults or whatever I like, so that I may play the amp without the Helix, excepting the one channel I've reserved for the Helix?

For what it's worth (and this doesn't answer your question), I've used an md20 with 2 L2T and 2 L2M for 3 years at my church with not a single drop out or other issue. I HIGHLY recommend following the advice of getting an airport express with the USB > Ethernet cable for networking, as advocated by others on this forum. For me, the absolute KILLER app is the ability to multi-track record the music, and then tweak it in Logic Pro X afterwords. I've complied a live album of original songs, and I'm working on volume II for this summer. Here's a song I just wrote and performed with my band two days ago. If you have any questions once you've got things up and running, I'd be happy to help.

Our church has ordered and is loving a pair of L3ts and L3s subs in our Family Life Center. We had attempted to order an M20d as part of the package back in February, but were told by our Guitar Center rep they were on back order until late March. We just received word from them again that it would be mid-July. I have a group wondering if the M20d is being discontinued, or if it really is just behind in production in some way.
I am not sure if this is the best place to ask this - PM me if this would better be handled offline somehow. I could not find a good support email address for a question like this, and I am hoping someone from this Line6 community can steer me in the right direction. At the end of the day, the system was what we were looking to purchase, moreso than just the speakers...

Humoring this topic, I imagine this is a realistic extension of the HD500(x) functionality:
The complete collection of HD amps and pedals with a larger color screen (similar to Helix) but no capacitive touch. Processor capable of more stuff at a time. Bluetooth control ala Amplifi/Firebird.
That's pretty much it, and because of that, I think it isn't too likely to happen. I'm happy with my HD500, but if Helix had DT amp integration, I'd be jonesing for one.

If I understand correctly, you can't do dual tones with only one DT. You need a pair of them. One amp = one amp.

Add me to the HD500 (not even X) + DT25 lovefest. I've followed Helix with interest, watched all the videos, and would love to have the cool interface and new shiny, but it just doesn't make any sense to start over when I've got something that meets all my needs so well now. The only advantage of a FRFR setup would be not needing a second acoustic amp when I play music theater gigs.

Hmm. I never use LVM, can't seem to get "that" sound sans tubes. Not a bad idea re offloading the reverb.

Sometimes when playing, I notice the reverb is cavernous, despite being off on my HD500 patch. I then have to go to the DT25 and turn it down. Also when first starting out, the DT seems to override the HD500 patch until I reselect the patch. Is there a formula for what controls what? Ideally, I'd like the HD500 to be in control unless i move controls on the DT25.

Sorry I'm late to the party here... I have a 5-piece band (drums, bass, piano, cello, and me on guitar and vocals) that covers all sorts of different songs - from Stevie Wonder to Pat Metheny, Paul Simon to Les Miserables in worship, and I write a new song that fits with the liturgy of the week once a month. I'm using my Taylor 310 or the dream rig - HD500, JTV 69, and DT25, then playing and recording with the Dream Stage - an MD20, 2 L2T mains and 2 L2M monitors. I video the services, then take the best recordings, mix and master in Logic and then post them to my YouTube channel. I just released a CD of original songs recorded live in Sunday worship with this.
The last couple of tunes I've written use more ambient patches with some delay thrown in. Here they are:

No matter what, my JTV 69 is a kick-lollipop strat copy. After my guy set it up, it's stayed rock-solid, and I love the pickups when I'm not using the modeling, I love it when a new firmware update increases my functionality, but all things must pass, and the pups make it worry proof for me.

For those considering the MD20 mixer, I've been using it for 2 years, and in my opinion the killer app is dead-simple multitrack recording.
I've been using the MD20 + 2 L2T + 2 L2M as my sound system at church for about 2 years, and I also have a JTV69 + HD500 + DT25 Dream Rig, featured on this tune. Here's a recording of a modern rock song I wrote for my 5-piece band (piano, bass, drums, guitar/vox, cello), all recorded through the MD20 and mixed with Logic, mastered with Ozone. Now that I've created some presets in Logic, the workflow is very simple from stage to recording, with a few hours turnaround. I write a new tune once a month, and at the end of the year I've got a live album of new songs.

My JTV-69/HD500/DT25 Dream Rig serves my purposes very well - and in many cases, over serves. I will often play my JTV Mags (or another axe) purely thru the DT25, with the Fender Twin model preamp, and I can do entire gigs of jazz and oldies by cranking the gain and using my guitar's volume to saturate. In a few projects, I use lots of effects, but even when playing in musical pits, the rig is perfect, when I add an acoustic amp to the FX loop for acoustic sounds from the JTV. If I were to upgrade to Helix, it would mean selling everything, buying an FRFR (I have experience with L2T and LTM, my church has 2 of each) and then getting the Helix. All in all, likely another $1500 even after selling what I have. I love the new shiny, and I'll follow with anticipation and excitement, but it's not for me. Not yet.

Done. Love my DT25. The price might be prohibitive at first, but the dream rig component I'm most likely to up date is my HD500.

In the fall of 2013, my church purchased a setup including an MD20 mixer, 2xl2t, and 2xl2m speakers. We use it monthly for a worship service that involves "The Band," a group that plays some original music I've written, as well as a variety of jazz, blues, gospel, music theater, and whatever else fits with the liturgy that week. Because our sanctuary is a very traditional and simple one, the setup and teardown is only for the services when the band plays. Just recently, I've trained others to use the system, and it's being used for the youth band and other events where multiple wireless mics are needed.
Here's what I've learned:
- I can do a physical setup, including the mixer, 2 mains, 2 monitors, 4 wireless vocal mics, 2 piano mics, overhead and bass drum mics, in 45 minutes or less.
- Recalling the scene makes setup much faster, so that tweaks I've made in previous months remain.
- Using the iPad app to mix a recorded performance between services (to sound better in the second service) is awesome.
- I still struggle with getting the perfect trim on my vocal mics, although that may be because of the particular mics I'm using, or because I don't always re-auto-trim them every time I use them, due to time before the 8:15 service.
- The vocal trim issues aren't a problem for live performance, but only when I bring recordings into my DAW, where the vocal signal is too hot and clips.
- The recording to SD card is awesome.
- I've created a workflow that makes taking the discrete channel audio output from the SD card, into my DAW, where I've set up presets for each instrument, and then mixing and mastering, and syncing the final audio with 2 video sources in Final Cut Pro X an easy process. I can usually get a nice-sounding video out with a minimal amount of time and effort.
- For my own use outside church, I am looking at alternatives to the MD20, such as the QSC offerings, but my biggest requirement is multichannel recording that gives me the power to mix after the performance. When the time comes to purchase, the price will be a big factor. If the MD20 continues to go down, I am likely to invest in one for myself.

Many of the others are also from the board, but you can tell which ones are just recorded with my camera mic by their date and (lack of) sound quality.

I am also having trouble with iOS 15 and connecting to my mixer. It's time to show some minimal legacy support here, L6. Mixers are a long-term investment.
