  1. Yes, especially with the tube (valve) amps, as those are very high voltages. They tell me they have experience.

I have 50+ years of it with tubes (Valves) and everything else, and I still slip and get zapped. It still hurts when I do that.

Sending in just the head,... sometimes, depends on the problem. Something to work out with Support, us techs

here and/or the authorized service center. And always get a return authorization (RMA) before sending it here.

In some cases, servicing is a parts issue, as some parts are no longer available. Check the list for limited servicing

in the Knowledge Base for that info.

  2. "... to an inherent fault." - I don't think it's an inherent fault, but there are a couple things to go over with the service tech to check.

"... people closer to me who can change components on any P.C.B. ... " - They won't have access to service info or me.

Your serial number number suggests it's an amp from 2008 or 2009.

spydox,... unfortunately not everyone out there is as tech as you or I. Too many have tried self repairs on their own and have had poor results.

Then it ends up on bench and ends up taking more time and money to get the job done than it would to use an authorized tech. I see this all to too often.

"... we really lack is proprietary service manuals which many companies offer to the public. " - there are still intellectual property considerations,

and we don't know, nor can we vouch for the ability of others to know what they are doing, when it comes to self repair. I see failed attempts come

across my repair bench all to too often. Trying to prevent that, so people can spend their time making music and rocking and rolling.

Proprietary service manuals offered to the public is, by definition, no longer proprietary. And usually when they are no longer proprietary

do they do that. Not everything in these products are hardware. A lot of it is programming.

  3. Could be several things. It needs to be taken in and checked out by an authorized service tech.

It will not be a self repair sort of thing you can do. They would need to do it. If they need to, they

can consult me further about it through our technician email channel if they want.

Where in the UK are you? Is there a Virgin Express train to Milton Keynes where you are at?

  4. Chime, layer2, toggle-1 is my goto for a Ricki 370-12. I'm the de facto Ricki nut at Line 6 when it comes to 4001 or 370-12.  :)

Shop the web site, there are B-Stock/ Re-furbs that have been across my bench and serviced before going on the site's shop.

Looks a bit thin right now, try back there next week. I've sent some to the distribution hub recently.

  5. 1- Intellectual Property rights issues. They are very protective of that here. So I would not want to

see anyone get in trouble over that.

2- Even if you could, the program IC would be blank, so the board would not do anything. And no,

can't use Monkey for that. Monkey just load and updates models, does not have the core program.

So Monkey would not be useful for that. Getting that program,.... well, see #1.

3- If such a guitar with this board in it were to come across my repair bench or bench of an authorized

service center, it would be returned untouched, as a product with an unsupported modification.

Mr Legler being in the EU, Full Compass won't do, maybe an equivalent supplier over there. Or as I

mentioned before, get a used one to pull parts from, that has a good program board in it

Hope you find it,... fröhliche Jagd.

  6. Tunings have to be part of the custom patch you create and name, so when you do an Upload All,

everything uploads with it, including the Alt Tune strings. As far as I know, there is no way to do a

Global Alt Tune. That would need a virtual Alt Tune knob for that. So, Alt Tunes are done as part of

    each custom patch.

What is the Flash version you have in your JTV?

  7. It is not a Line 6 product. It has not been tested or scrutinized here at Line 6, therefore it is not a Line 6 endorsed device.

Use at your own risk. If a Variax gets damaged by it or is used improperly, it may void any warranty on the Variax.

    Looking for cheaper shortcuts,...

There is a Murphy's Law that says,"The shortcut is the longest distance between two points."

    Be careful, be safe.

  8. GK3 on JTV's seem to work fine. Have had a few JTV's with those come across my repair bench.

They have to be run as a separate external circuit and and signal path. They can't be incorporated

into the JTV circuit or signal path.

Multiple signal paths, multiple amps,... good opportunity to do interesting things in regards the spatial

acoustical variety of sounds. Have your audience swimming in a soundscape you create.

BTW, regarding Lazlo's blog,... my music partner used to work at 360 Systems and was a tech/engineering

on the Slave Driver. Our friend Shawn Phillips used one when he was with the band Cosmic Debris back

in the day (late 1970's and early 80's). I worked at 360 Systems later (1979-80), to build LM-1 drum computers for

Roger Linn and his Linn Electronics.

  9. What silverhead said, he knows his stuff.

Nice thing about the X3 Live is that it connects fine to both. Own a 300 electric and a JTV-69 and they connect fine to X3 Live.

Still use one at my bench at Line 6, because I can use it to test and check both original and current Variax guitars when I finish servicing them.

The main difference is that the JTV-69 looks and feels more like a Strat than the 300 electric. Both play fine,

I like and use them both when I record.

  10. Log a Support ticket in your account, they can tell you what your option are.

"My JTV serial indicates 2020,... ", close,... early 2019.

Stripped rod nut,... option-1, I would pull up the fret board and replaced the rod.

By typically, they would have me do option-2,... just swap out the neck for another one,

as it doesn't take as long waiting for the glue to dry on the fret board, for a rod replacement.
