    • An HD500 preset has a lot of parameters. Switching presets would be extremely sluggish via the iOS/Android app, and syncing a hundred HD500

An HD500 preset has a lot of parameters. same params also apply on this new firehawk product?

    and a last q:

r all hd presets compatible with firehawk?

or the tone matching is based on amplifi tones?

  2. This does not work. If I set an exp pedal to the return parameter, when i close the pedal, the return does not mute. Unfortunately the return level at "zero" does not mean "no signal"

it works i u c it the opposite way.

i mean consider the fx return param as a -24 db level controller.

so, set fx loop return=+24db 'n assign the hd500's master knob in such a way that with these settings u achieve the loudest output.

now, by  reducing the fx return level 2 "zero" with the exp1/2, u can actually cut the output signal by 24 db.

i suppose this is "near mute", isn't it?

  3. i believe this is a good-practice approach.

    go 4 it.

    Re: Global EQ on HD500
    by talwilkins on 2013-01-12 09:57:33

I use a GLX 10-band EQ stompbox in the effectloop at the end of the chain in all my patches.

This way I effectively have a global EQ. It works really well for me.

I can also use it to attenuate the volume when at home. That way I don't need the LV mode on my DT-25.

I know it's not ideal because you should ultimately attenuate between the power amp and the speaker but it sounds pretty good anyway.

  4. This vid shows how 2 play the famous Hotel California harmonies with a JTV and the HD500, XLR'ed direct 2 PA.

The vid was recorded with a cheap handheld camera, which captured the ambient sound with poor sound quality.
In order 2 isolate the JTV+HD500 ***STEREO*** sounds,  we recorded the two HD500 channels directly from the PA's mixing console during the show and  mixed them with the ambient sound from the hand held camera .

In the original studio version recordings,  Don Felder used a '59 Les Paul sunburst, plugged in2 a '50s Tweed Deluxe, a narrow-paneled model (probably a '55 or '56).  Joe Walsh used a Fender Tele thru a ’59 Fender Tweed Deluxe amp.  Both guitarists used no effects, just plugged the guitars straight in2 the amps.

The live guitar performance in this vid is intentionally slightly diverging from the original studio version and the patches r NOT an exact tone match, they r using the "Treadplate Pre" instead.  This particular amp model implements the harmony parts astonishingly well and also sits perfectly in the band mix.

There r two main patches used, one 4 Don Felder's solo (and harmony parts) and the second 4 Joe Walsh's parts.  There is also a third patch with a "B minor pentatonic" harmony small part on 0:58.

The "Smart Harmony" comes in (activated with FS2) on the last solo segment with variable scale and key (via the exp-2).
The harmony starts at 1:11 with a "B minor harmonic" scale 4 the first 2 chords (Bm+F#), then at 1:31 shifts 2 "A major" 4 the next 2 chords (A, E) and at 1:35 returns back 2 "B minor harmonic" 4 the rest of the chord progression.

    All 3 patches r expected 2 be played with a v2.10 JTV connected thru VDI 2 a v2.31 HD500, XLR'ed direct 2 PA (2 channels). Set input1=variax, input2=same.

Feel free 2 download and experiment with all 3 patches used:

  5. +1 on Dshow's post, adding that L6 shld also concentrate on device RELIABILITY+ROBUSTNESS as well.

I think Line 6 should concentrate on the sound- and recording option on the HD series. Also on making HD Edit more comfortable - not optimising for mobile devices.
For that is the Amplifi series and thats good as it is.

we (pros) don't need no mobiles, we just need hd excellent (preset) sounds :)
i wld NEVER EVER rely on stage on pc/mobile/other device except my extra light rig jtv + hd 500 + ups (ideally doubled in case something breaks down).
When away from home, there is always a hotel/venue/studio pc available, so i wld use this 4 last minute changes prior 2 a show, or overnight in a hotel room b4 the next show, although professionally pre-planned shows usually do not imply 4 last minute changes.
in any case, i consider the 512 preset slots of the HD more than enough 4 any show/tour.
