Re: Variax 600 Electric - What Modeled Mic was used and what the tone knob "actually" does for the ACOUSTIC and RESO

You know, I'll take assumptions too...such as: with the Tone knob at 1, the mic is placed further from the soundhole; and with the Tone knob at 10 it is placed closer, thus allowing more bass to be amplified....etc, etc....

    thanks!
The v1.82 firmware update fixes issues related to alternate tuning the new acoustic models in Workbench. It also addresses the community's feedback regarding the natural ambience of the new acoustic models by adding a range at the top of the tone knob that reduces the body ambience and offers a sound that is similar to mic'ing an acoustic guitar at the 12th fret.

  2. quoting from http://foobazaar.com/podhd/toneGuide/ampTone#noiseGates

    Dual Gates

Using two gates is useful when you're using strong compression or distortion, and you need to go from punchy chords to dead silence very quickly. I like to place the first gate as the first thing in the chain. I dial it in as described above, but it may not kick on fast enough, and those snippets of noise occurring as I'm muting are being amplified and are obvious when listening to the tone.

I add another gate after the compressor/distortion stage that is adding most of the compression. For many people, this is the end of the chain. For me, it's usually before the amp, but after a compressor or distortion effect with a little drive. I dial this one in exactly like the first one, and I turn the first one off while I'm doing so.Once I've got them both tuned, I try the patch out with them both on. Sometimes it'll end up gating a little too much. I tend to back off the first gate a bit, while keeping the final gate firm

  3. @joecozzi:  All JTV guitars with flash memory v1.80 and newer no longer have this factory reset procedure available.

Factory Reset and Updating the Flash Memory

Q: Why doesn't the Factory Reset procedure described in the manual work?
A: The reset procedure described in the JTV manual was removed from the JTV guitars to make room in the memory for the Variax HD Acoustic models that were added in flash memory update v1.80. All JTV guitars with flash memory v1.80 and newer no longer have this factory reset procedure available.

To perform a factory reset, re-install, rollback, or update the flash memory on the James Tyler Variax guitars, please use the following link:
