  1. ..COSM is modeling, it's merely an outdated technique that BOSS uses...

that's exactly what i was saying, in connection 2 the BOSS GP-10 Guitar Processor mentioned in this thread.

btw, roland and fender vg strat also uses this technology which is synth-based

    so i repeat once again:

so it seems that only the jtv does true hardware modelling, all others use synth-like technology...

if u know any other GUITAR with true hardware modelling (incl true workbench utilities) , pls let us know...

    ps

i do not know how the Gibson  HD.6X-Pro Digital Guitar works, but since i do not c any workbench options, i presume that this one is also synth-based...

  2. Test mode
Switch off the device and switch it on again while pressing on the right arrow off the four-way navigation switch (on the right hand side of the display). The only feature in test mode that is documented is "Pedal calibration" (see Quick start guide). But there are various other options: "Buttons", "Flash", ... Press the View button to select one of the options. I'm not sure how to work with this further, but maybe it is useful for debugging when the POD behaves strangely.

anybody knows something abt those undocumented features?

Instrument modeling powered by COSM technology

    http://www.roland.com/products/en/exp/COSM.html

    COSM: Composite Object Sound Modeling
Once a musical instrument generates sound vibrations, it reaches the human ear through various mediating, objects, each of which significantly affects the sound. The material and configuration of the instrument, the electric/magnetic amplifying system, the air and the reverberation of the room all affect the final sound. Sound modeling, the latest DSP technology, "virtually" reconstructs these objects. Roland's breakthrough Composite Object Sound Modeling (COSM) uses the advantages of multiple modeling methods and succeeds in accurately emulating existing sounds, as well as producing sounds that have never before been created.

so it seems that only the jtv does true hardware modelling, all others use synth-like technology...

  4. Tip:  This is so much easier when using the editor, saves so much time over doing it on the floor unit.

... it also extends the life of the control switches/butns/knobs of the floor unit...

  5. hd500+jtv does things no other rig can achieve (custom tunings+guitar model change mid-song with ONLY ONE FS + custom guitar workshoping, etc, etc, etc) and @ much much cheaper price than 3k €... definetely consists the USP (unique selling proposition) of the specific hd500+jtv bundle...
I'll gladly bow 2  superior knowledge, here, if anyone's got it...

  6. here's nother interesting post from stevekc

    Above is a JTV-69

Actually each Piezo saddle signal feeds a fixed gain op amp that feeds an AKM5386 Stereo A/D There are three U2,U3,U5 - to cover all 6 strings.

    http://www.akm.com/akm/en/file/datasheet/AK5386VT.pdf

There is no "adjustable Gain" block in the AKM5386

The Variax String Gain is accomplished post A/D inside the Freescale DSPB56725F DSP

(trivia : The Mag PUs use a separate AK4556 Stereo CODEC (U6) - (for A/D for the VDI interface) and D/A for the 1/4" out

  7. "IT-wise" everything is possible.

but u always have 2 consider the cost-benefit analysis...

in this case the benefit wld be some (milli)seconds faster synch-time...

    ps

timestamps wld not solve the "unsynchronized case" (how do u verify clock-synch btween 2 diff devices?)

one way wld b 2 use seperate buffers in order to check if the stored preset is exactly the same with the hd edit preset.  in this case a check-digit algorithm might be helpful. but again the benefit shld b minimal, even negative (cause u wld probably need more time comparing than exchanging the whole setlist/bundle), so is it worth implementing?

  8. ...- HD500x Edit already knows which presets are changed. Those are marked with yellow, italic and an asterisk...

    true if synchronization is perfect.

    false if POD+PUTER r out-of-synch...

this is a common situtaion 'n cld happen if u:

    1. initialize hd edit off-line (ie pod not connected),

    2. tweak presets,

    3. connect pod,

    4. answer no in the prompt "a pod is connected. Do u want 2 load presets? Answering yes will overwrite all unsaved info"...

  9. each venue needs different equalization, so the pa MUST be equalized according 2 the venue's sound "signature".

u can check that by feeding the pa with a simple mp3 track. if it sounds good, then ur pod will also sound good.

  10.  from translator:

    hello,
I just purchased a POD HD500X and I gradually discover his possibilities. I found, however, a problem: when I switch from one preset to another, there is a white short but audible. Sound cuts simply change for a split second before moving to the new preset.

This is extremely annoying, it completely breaks the melody.

Is there a way to delete this latency (updated ...?)

    Thank you in advance

no, u have to "mute/stop" playing 4 a millisecond change the preset 'n continue playing.

altenatively, whenever possible try using the FS's 4 changes while mid-song...

    ps

pls write further posts in english...

  11. assuming that u conncect jtv via usb dongle 2 computer:

    1. check out this one:

    http://line6.com/support/topic/4272-variax-700-has-stopped-responding-in-workbench/

    2. try connecting the usb dongle  2 different USB ports on ur computer until u have exhausted all available USB ports.

    3. Also try using a different USB cable 2 connect the usb dongle 2 computer as well.

    4. Try a different VDI/CAT 5 cable 2 connect  JTV 2 usb dongle as well.

    5. "reset power" by unplugging everything (VDI+1/4") from jtv, then replug the 1/4" jack. set volume knob 2 max (10) 'n press the model selector switch.
