  1. The FX to monitors issue is still a bit unclear. We have not yet seen a case where they randomly changed. I wonder if it really comes down to having the FX to monitor controls linked and then turning up the FX returns. If anyone has a case where any presets or levels have not been touched and the FX to monitors changed we would like to find out what is going on there. If you have a clear case please contact me with a message so we can get in touch.

  2. When loading a new setup the monitor outputs are set to zero. The idea was to make sure that no unexpected feedback can not occur accidentally. In some cases it would be, of course, better if the levels would not reset.

    When loading a setup the trim settings and all other settings are recalled according to the saved setup. If you use scenes (in perform mode) the input settings like trim, high pass filter etc. are not changed. If you just want different mixes for the same setup, usually the same show, you can just use scenes to prevent the trims from changing to whatever was stored.

  3. There are different DSP types you can assign per channel. One of them is, for example, Feedback control-> HiPass-> Gate-> 4 band compressor-> 6 band eq-> limiter. There is no sidechain implementation so you can not have one channel control another channels dynamics. You could get a similar result by going out of a monitor out with both channels and back into an input channel. This is a bit complicated but works.

  4. We look at feedback on ideascale and on this forum. Ideascale is the preferred place because customers can rank the ideas there. In general we look at any feedback no matter where it comes from.

    The 31 band eq discussion is tricky since the best way to solve this would be always to have both- 31band and fully parametric eq's. With the rise of digital mixers the discussion changed somewhat from the old analog side rack requirements. It is valid to say that a fully parametric eq allows a more surgical correction since the frequency and bandwith can be exactly adjusted while the 31 band eq allows a quicker adjustment.

    Since the DSP for the 31 band eq is physically in the speaker our system allows this choice only with Line6 speakers and the decision to have fully parametric eq's in the mixer is designed to allow precise system tuning with minimal impact.

    I just want to address the point about the mic preamps. Although we have not branded our preamps with a catchy name the entire signal chain from mic input to analog output has a dynamic range of 113dB. Which is one indicator of an excellent preamp. Feel free compare the specs and the sound quality to other mixers and you will find that certain mixers only make 109dB, others 97dB although they have a well known name associated.

    You can use an input channel dsp type with chorus for the guitar and the global fx vocal doubler for the vocal.

    The input channel dsp chorus is in line with the other channel processing like EQ etc.

    To select the dsp type with chorus go to deep tweak mode and open the inspector in the left upper corner. When you select the tab "dsp type" a dropdown menu shows up. Scroll down until you find "chorus general" this dsp type has a four band EQ, a compressor and the chorus.

    Again, the global fx can be used via fx sends from all channels. The dsp types containing an fx apply only to its channel and do not need fx sends.

     

    Manual appendix C- dsp types:

     

    Chorus & Flanger (General), Megaphone (Vocals)

    These 3 DSP Types use a moderate number of FX, the difference being the final effect in the signal

    chain is Chorus, Flanger or Megaphone respectively.

    FX Order for Chorus, Flanger, Megaphone:

    • Feedback Control (Feedback Suppression)

    • Hi Pass Filter

    • Comp

    • EQ 4-Band

    • Chorus (Chorus - General only)

    • Flanger (Flanger - General only)

    • Megaphone (Megaphone - Vocals only)

  7. To get safer access to individual monitor mixes you could use the iPad(‘s) in Fader View mode. (Perform mode-> Fader View button in the upper right)

    Then you can select one Monitor Send to be on the faders.

    You get a view that has only the sends for one specific monitor.

    You could also create groups like “All Others†and “Me†to get an easy “Me vs Them†control.

  8. The master is recorded to the SD card post fader. This is necessary to prevent recording a clipped signal without hearing what happens. The background is that the 32 bit floating point internal processing can not clip but when it goes out to the 24 bit outputs the master fader is absolutely necessary to prevent potential clipping.

     

    If you are looking for a way to mute all monitor outs at the same time you can "program" the Mute Mics button like a mute group:

     

    - Press the Mute Mics button

    - Make sure that only the monitor outs are muted

    - Done

     

    The Mute Mics button always recalls the status that it had the last time it was active. This can be used to create a mute group.

  9. 1. Does this appear when powering up? There is a very rare occurence of a bug. This will not happen during operation.

    2. The input and output channel retain their name once changes have been made made to any parameters. To change the name either change the preset before any adjustments are made or rename it and save it.

    3. It could be that the global effects master level (FX to Mons) is not at "0" (nominal/ unity gain)

  10. Theoretically yes. It depends on the microphone. With a dynamic microphone like an SM58 the only effect is a bit less level. In a setup with a separate FoH and Monitor mixer this is very common. The splitter sometimes has transformers sometimes it does not.

    From the Shure website:

     

    "Splitting the signal from a microphone and sending it to two mixers should not have any effect on the frequency response of the microphone. The only effect is a few dB of signal loss, which can easily be made up with the mixer's gain control. The only potential problem is if both mixers have phantom power turned on. Normally. phantom power will not affect a dynamic microphone. However, the mixers may not like to see phantom power at their inputs, which could happen when a microphone is split between two mixers. The solution in this case would be to turn off phantom power, or use a transfomer isolated splitter to split the microphone signal. "
