Hey guys I just wanted to share my unboxing video and discussion of the L3t. Check it out and shoot me some ideas for videos for it, because there aren't many on youtube. I'll be using it for an FRFR type of system with my James Tyler Variax and HD500, but I will also be using it for a general PA for playing coffee shops. I have some vocal effects pedals I am excited about playing through this L3t. Okay here is the video...

A true line source array has a linear wave front as opposed to the spherical wavefront of a conventional speaker. This way putting these speakers close together does not cause interference (comb filtering) but the speakers "couple" and act as one source. This is done by shaping the horns in a way that delays the center of the horn output compared to the edges. This way the wavefront is flat. There are many different shapes and designs[.

This is the ideal case and real world speakers do this more or less well. The background is that speakers couple and produce a coherent wavefront if they have a linear wavefront and the distance between the sources is not more than half the wavelength of the highest produced frequency.

For the frequency bandwidth there is no restriction on the design. Some line source arrays go down to 60Hz using 15" speakers. The directivity usually starts to work much higher, around 700Hz. It is more practical to have the subs not as part of the array to get floor coupling and for weight and other mechanical reasons.

Many long shaped speakers do not fulfill this criteria and are not line source arrays.

The M20d does multitrack recording so you can mix the recording later with your computer. If you insert an SD card, go to the "Record" Page, select the recording path in the menu "select session" and press record all inputs are recorded as separate 24Bit/ 48kHz .wav files. You can select to record inputs and/ or the main mix.

The small mixer where the microphones were plugged in to could be part of the problem. Apart from the mic pre's and eq settings the mixer most likely has a line level output. The L3 mixer input can handle that but you would switch the Pad on the L3 mixer input on. That could have been the reason why it was peaking.

We recommend to record to an SD card. This way you do not have to bring a computer and the M20d is slightly more responsive compared to recording USB- to- computer. On a 32GB SD card you can record 4 hours of multitrack in two max. 2 hour sessions. Or you can record to an USB hard drive. When connecting a large USB hard drive the M20d takes a moment to scan the drive at first.

There are three pages. If you have all 18 analog channels, the media player, and 4 monitor outs on the stage you can still create 15 groups.

When you connect via Line6 you have a digital connection and you avoid DA- AD conversion. When you use the analog output and input there is an additional conversion. This will not change the sound in a way that it sounds totally different but the Line6 Link digital connection is cleaner.

The POD HD500's XLR output is at microphone level so it has to go into a pre amp. The 1/4" output is at line level and will produce a louder signal.

All these different methods have less impact on the sound than a different speaker or different mixer settings. As long as high quality gear is used and no extreme settings are applied I would not worry too much. To answer your question: Line6 Link with the L3t speaker in PA/ Reference mode is the cleanest solution.
