  1. Of course. There should be enough DSP to load EVERYTHING all at once. Then we'd only ever need ONE preset. Just have 100 pages of Footswitch configurations to control it all. SIMPLE! How short-sighted of L6 not to have included enough DSP to do that! Yes, I'm being snarky. My point is that at any given time, an affordable piece of hardware will have technological limitations that the program designers have to work around. I read somewhere that at the time of the first Lunar Landing, the total computing power available to NASA was less than that of a 286. I'm sure that the system designers working on the inevitable Mars Landing could look at the choices made by the Lunar Landing folks and say "That's just the shortcoming of not having enough computational power". And they'd be right!
  2. Line6 chooses to implement dual channel amps as separate amps. That's just the way it is. You can deal with it the traditional way - clean amp with overdrive/distortion pedals. You can also try using the dirty amp with lower gain settings, using Snapshots to increase the gain as necessary. That works better on mid-gain amps than high-gain amps, but you don't get squeaky-clean and chimey either way. Or you can upgrade to a full-fat Helix for the added DSP.
  3. The "Instant Commands" (IC) are the lightning bolt icons in Command Center. See page 41 of the manual (Rev C). They load each time you load a preset and each time you change Snapshots. You load a Snapshot, select an IC, set it to MIDI CC with the CC# and Value, then SAVE the Snapshot. Repeat for each Snapshot. Your final SAVE should be on the Snapshot you want active when the Preset loads. You can set footswitches in Pedal view to load Snapshots (Command Center), so no view changing required unless you run out of footswitches.
  4. There's nothing in that picture that could cause feedback, but if you attach the actual preset I'll check it on my system. Meantime check your cables. You should be using a shielded TS cable (a guitar cable). Try a different one (or two). What poweramp are you using? Your SEND/RETURN L should probably be set to LINE.
  5. I was wondering what you meant by "engages the Mode Switch". You're talking about the HXSXL, right, NOT the HXS? The HXS does not HAVE a Mode switch. Maybe that's why it's not working?
  6. When was this feature added? I was just looking at the 3.15 release notes and didn't see it? Never mind, I found it. Testing.
  7. You can do this using Snapshots assigned to Stomp switches. Example: Snapshot 6 calls Channel 1 In Snapshot 6 set Instant Command 1 (the first lightning bolt) to the PC for Channel 1 Snapshot 7 calls Channel 2 In Snapshot 7 set Instant Command 1 (the first lightning bolt) to the PC for Channel 2 Snapshot 8 calls Channel 3 In Snapshot 8 set Instant Command 1 (the first lightning bolt) to the PC for Channel 3 In Each Snapshot set your 3 Stomp buttons to call the desired Snapshot. Don't forget to SAVE between Snapshot mods.
  8. If you want to know, go back to TGP. NOBODY from Line6 hangs out on this forum. Sad, but true. Nonsense. If you want a Helix, you might ALSO want a Catalyst (I do), but a Catalyst is NOT a substitute for a full-fat Helix, or even an HXStomp.
  9. I'm guessing that you're trying to eliminate the AD/DA conversion at the "soundcard" for recording purposes? I've done extensive comparisons with a DAW, and I cannot detect any difference between using SPDIF and using an analog channel on my Scarlett. I doubt that any measurement you can do will detect any either unless you're using a really old or incredibly cheap soundcard, but if you have a method that would show such a difference I'd be interested. How are you measuring? I've never claimed to have "Golden Ears" :-) - too many years playing loud R'n'R - and my recording needs are purely amateur hour so I can't state definitively that there's no difference, but with modern converters there shouldn't be. I use a 2nd gen Scarlett 18i20. What are you using?
  10. The new Catalyst amps have a .5 watt setting. Get the 100watt version for MIDI control. Boss Katana also has a .5 watt setting. Get the 100 MKII version for MIDI connectivity and power amp/FX Loop flexibility. If you're not planning to ever play out just get a quality set of powered studio monitors.
  11. There's a lot going on here and so I'm not sure of your intent, but your Output Block Level is assigned to SNAPSHOTS and in the ACOUSTIC Snapshot (SS1) it's set to -120db (OFF). The Looper works fine in the other Snapshots.

    Can't decide!

If all you care about is your stage show, you're totally happy with what you've got and can't see ANY WAY that you'd EVER need amp sims then get the HXFX. It has more buttons and scribble strips. It's made for your CURRENT use case. If there's ANY chance that MAYBE SOMEDAY you just MIGHT POSSIBLY need more, get a Helix Floor or Rack + Controller. OR you could get an HXS or HXSXL or LT. BUT... what if you get one of those and SOMEDAY you need MORE?!?!? MORE is BETTER, right? ;-) IOW - your choices are - get what you know you need NOW or guess at what you MIGHT SOMEDAY need. FWIW - I have an HXS for use with my tube combo (all bases covered) and an HX Floor and Powercab212+ because MORE is BETTER and STEREO is WAY COOL!
  13. Wrong forum. Nobody from Line6 Monitors this forum. This is where you go if you're serious about suggestions for changes and improvements: https://line6.ideascale.com/a/index Before posting a new idea, please search to see if it's already been proposed. If 100 people vote on the same idea presented 20 different ways, it looks like only 5 people care about it! Also, post your ideas one at a time. I for one NEVER vote for multiple combined suggestions.
  14. OK! Yeah, I'd be really bummed if I opened my package expecting a full-sized unit and found an itty-bitty thingy!
  15. Now now, that's not what I was saying. Your joke was good, the interpretation of "package" just seemed to have been lost in translation... ;-)
  16. I think you missed the joke....
  17. While you're waiting for your new Helix to get to room temperature, make good use of the time to RTM. Just sayin"... :-)
  18. The TOSLINK connector is usually used to link multiple Clarett/Scarlett devices to expand the I/O. RTM! This is how you typically connect Helix - Helix SPDIF OUT to Scarlett SPDIF IN. Using this method eliminates an AD/DA conversion and frees up a pair of analog ports on your Clarett. I've never found a good use for it, so I don't bother with the Scarlett SPDIF OUT to Helix IN cable. Yes, always use the latest driver version and check often for updates. If the Clarett is like the Scarlett there's a "Focusrite Control" application (could be called something else for Clarett) that allows you to set the I/O routing and Clock Source. Set that to INTERNAL and the Sample Rate to match the sample rate in Helix (48k is the default in Helix). RTM! When you install HX Edit all of the necessary drivers are installed. If you're using a MAC there may be something extra you need to use higher sample rates(?), but I'm not sure as I'm a PC guy. Check the DOWNLOAD area at the Line6 website. Impedance is complicated, as you must've gathered from my previous post. Your guitar pickups are designed to be plugged into a guitar amp's input. The USUAL input impedance of a guitar amp input is 1000 ohms (1mega ohm/1M). If you plug a guitar into a device with lower input impedance it "loads" the guitar's pickups in such a way as to attenuate the high frequencies. Most modern FX use 1M input impedance, but some "classic" FX such as Rangemasters and Tube Screamers (mostly ODs and Fuzzes) used a lower input impedance and the attenuated high frequencies are part of the "classic" sound of those devices. When you plug a cable from your guitar directly into the Helix there's an Auto Impedance circuit that can be set to change the Helix Input Impedance to a number of different values, or to change it based on the modeled impedance of either the first effect in your signal chain OR the first ACTIVE effect. RTM! AFAIK, all wireless units load the pickups at 1M except for a few that have a "cable length" option. Long cables (>15' and curly cables)) also attenuate the high frequencies, which is why BOSS FX have built-in "buffers" which restore those highs. Using all "True Bypass" FX on a large board will also attenuate the highs, and standalone buffers are available for those applications.
  19. Rather than edit that post yet again I'll make a new one to offer an alternative. Use an external A/B/Y box.
  20. Two modes = FS Three modes = FS + Snapshot (Output Pan = Center) You can assign the SS to a Stomp mode FS if you like - 4 or 5 if you have a two-button switch. Sorry, that won't work - only one controller assignment per parameter. You need all 3 of your available Snapshots to do that - L/R/Center.
  21. You can do this with MIDI but AFAIK not with a regular FS. Only page forward OR page backward with a FS.
  22. In your Snapshots it's saved OFF. If you switch to a Snapshot where it's OFF it stops. In the 3-note Generator Block, uncheck "Snapshot Bypass". In Global Settings>Preferences set Snapshot Edits to Discard. Now it stays ON unless you turn it OFF.
  23. And give us more personal storage so that the hard work we put into screenshots doesn't have to be deleted and lost to future answer seekers!
