  1. i run mine into a home hifi surround amp, 4 speakers. 3 years, no problems. i dont trust the zero risk assessment, so i go thru my pc 1st and have a couple of limiters in my routing. since the latest firmware uodates there hasnt been any mention of the pods squealing issue, so its pretty safe. still, there are some mean vol differences between patches, you need to level them out.
  2. has anybody had and solved this problem: sometimes i cannot drag files (h5e) from a folder into edit. dragging the same file to the desktop 1st, it will then be accepted by edit from the desktop, but still not from a win7 explorer window.
  3. i would check the drive and vol pots, and the pedal. when starting up edit, patches are reset to their last saved state while syncing. if theres a change in volume while edit is starting, it would point in that direction. when i had a similar problem on an earlier firmware, like no vol at all on some patches, it helped to go to the tuner and back, my guess was the values are reloaded when exiting the tuner, so firmware or flash update related.
  4. used to happen quite frequently when i was building filters (vcf) with led strips. this is because the digital and analog ground is not separated properly, the current from the led finds a shortcut thru the ground loop. in devices with internal power supply its easy to keep grounds separate. looking at the rather thin pod power cable theres no room for separation. and the thinner, the higher ohms it gets. you could try to disconnect (cut) the shielding of the cable(s) between the pod and the amp. as long as it remains grounded on one side, the shielding will be fine and working. in case of different mains sockets not 100% recommended. and then there are the audio transformer ground insulator devices as used in cars. they may be not totally hifi, but should do for the guitar frequency range
  5. use spdif, unfortunately your board (which has everything else) doesnt have spdif in. there are cheap add on pci(e) solutions. they should come with their own asio drivers. note there can be only 1 asio device per system, no 2 drivers or input on a different device than output you have enough horsepower for sure. the pod is trying to be everything at once but it really is having a hard time with that. thats not to say it cant be used as a soundcard.
  6. how do you avoid killing the high strings with loud bass strings, which compressor, which settings?
  7. i had made a rar of most tones in ct up until mid 2014, 1.78mb: http://www.mediafire.com/download/7hna9w4ujnkab86/2000h5e.zip so many sounds, so little flash memory... i cant agree with the assessment of customtone quality. if on studio-direct, most are ok, many usable and many great.
  8. master vol settings can not be saved. i generally leave it alone set at center 11 to 12 o clock. since edit is never synced, i send setlist after editing each patch, then save on the pod. there are actually not enough vol setting options, most effects only have mix parameters.

    patches

if you didnt backup before the update, the previous ones are gone for good. the setlists of older flash versions can still be downloaded, search the forum for setlist. (and then there is custumtone.) from a programmers point of view, monkey should suggest a backup or make one automatically, the kilobytes of a setlist will not overload your pcs. since we can probably not ecpect many updates for the pod, time for the helix idea scale
  10. how do you set the comp to avoid more or less muting the high strings when playing a loud bass string?
  11. isnt that what the global eq is for, and how would you use it, now that we have it
  12. try to use spdif, balanced outs, and/or the ground lift. try having everything on the same outlet. if mainsplugs in your country allow try turning them by 180° one by one. get a better psu for the pc
  13. is it for the latest 2.6x only or for any version of edit?
  14. try a mono effect last in your chain. it will sum everything to mono. if differences still there, could be the output stages, but more likely after the pod. if not, move effect up the chain or use fx loop send in various positions in your chain.
  15. free upgrade. really- maybe it will cost some more of your privacy. freebie giveaways dont come for free. ask your local druglord for his policies. soon enough the script kiddies wont support xp any more and cant produce viruses for it. try a 64bit malware in w98
  16. if the pedal were not buffered, your guitar would see the pod input z when the pedal is off/bypassed. since it is buffered, the guitar doesnt see the pod input z ever. true bypass is a switch, buffer is an amp stage i followed others advice and added a ms70 to my chain, its great in front of the pod until i go for higher gain territory. the constant noise is really annoying.
  17. i didnt see you mention the pedal calibration...
  18. you could try the fx loop as input. plug the guitar into fx return, put the fx loop at the end of your chain, then if sound is ok, move it left gradually and see where the sound is muted.
  19. there are asio drivers for realtec chips. that and using spdif can reduce latency by a factor of 10 or better, if you dont want to use usb. having spent a good amount on the pod, its probably not a good idea to have the cheapest of soundcards at the very end of your chain.
  20. makes me wonder: if i have my input settings as per patch, not global, and i download a customtone from someone using global settings (where the input settings are not saved to any patch,) i probably end up with settings not intended by the author .

    MIDI Noob Question

as usual, the manuals (pilots guide, advanced guide) are not very specific- it says you can switch to midi out or out+through in the system pages. and to use a standard 5 pin cable. however the midi spec has out and through on the same pins, 5 and 4. (but on 2 different connectors) i doubt L6 would have included a midi merger. chances are the thru makes use of the otherwise unused pins 1 and 3, both the outermost pins @ 3 and 9 o clock. this was introduced in the old atari days. in this case a simple passive adapter can split the 2 signals. to answer the question: midi uses opto-isolators. their input is basically a LED which draws current. a 220 ohm resistor limits to appr. 10mA. my korg z1 synth has standard cmos drivers 7408 as midi output stages, they can supply 20mA easily. the pod we dont know, so its risquee to connect 2 ins to the one out. drawing more current will also cause the slopes of the midi data signal to deteriorate, especially with longer cables. there is of course rather little traffic from the pod with the occasional push of a button...
  22. the fx loop is stereo. the pod has 2 stereo paths. you would put the fx loop into either path, before the mixer. the pan is more like a balance, pan left lose right.
  23. pushing 60, 4 months away, reason for pod: cant hear any difference,
  24. i got the idea from other recent posts on the pitch glide. a whammy with both up and down action. and i thought this should be easy to do. the idea was to use 1 fixed pitch glide as an offset and a second one with the foot controller (exp-1). say i want to whammy 2 tones (4 semitones) up and down, i need 8 semitones. set the other pitch glide to -4, and the exp-controlled pitch glide to min 0, max +8. then in exp pedal middle position the resulting pitch should be unaltered. +4 -4 = 0 i had not taken the pod factor into account. the edit now calls my exp1 pedal exp2. ok i`ll go with exp2 for now and figure that out some other day. setting the -4 on the 1st pitch glide works as expected, result is 4 semitones lower. great. now needs assigning the pedal to the other glide. but which one? why arent adjacent effects next to each other in the effects parameters view and in the pull down menu in controller assign in edit? the bottom one is the top one in the controllers assign menue but both are not next each other as in the chain. ok. 50-50 chance, picked the right one accidentally. click send selected cause we know all will be lost with the slightest pedal movement or other touch of the pod. now the pedal does something (min 0 max 100) ??????????? argh right, values are in percent now. with the pedal in middle position, changing both min and max values alter the pitch unintuitively. and vanish from the screen when touching the pedal. again and again. i give up. another pod tweaking experience. i think the pros will have to take it from here, i hope someone will.
  25. so it is not the stock variax i might afford, almost had my mind made up this morning...
