  1. You have to update the Catalyst Edit as well. This will provide all the functionality needed.

My only question is why do you have to do a factory reset after the upgrade?  I didn't do it, so what am I missing out on?

The new amp models make this a much nicer amp. They are way fuller and more usable. The first 6 were great, these are amazing!

This is like an amp based Helix!  This is what is needed for these types of amps. Constant upgrades to provide better functionality and usability.

I really hope they eventually let us have access to teh entire bank of HX amp models.  We could then save any 12 models we wanted on the amp and overwrite the out of teh box models.  This would be sweet.  Pick and choose your amp stack, save them, create others.  Have a whole stack of blues type amps, save them on the computer, and then build a whole stack of metal based amps, etc.  Could be the only amp ever needed for anyt type of gig ever.

And you've probably figured out by now that Amplitube is not much better.

    Significantly better:

Get the FREE version of ToneX for iOS and AUM ($20.99).

TBH - I think that the Catalyst's amps and built-in FX beat the p1$$ out of any of the iOS guitar plugins.

Add a Sonicake WAH/VOL pedal ($60) and get FULL CONTROL with a decent MIDI Foot Controller (Hotone Ampero Control - $120).

The MIDI controller is only really important if you need instant Bank changes, otherwise the stock 2 button switch is really all you need.

Over time you'll spend more money on horrible sounding iOS plugins.

If you REALLY need a boatload of concurrent FX save up for an HXFX or an HX Stomp (gets you all of the Helix Amps and MIDI).

FWIW - I own every major player - AT5, BIAS FX, Guitar Rig, Native, S-Gear, ToneX, THU, and I've tried so many others over the years I can't even recall them all.

I also own a Helix, a PC212+ and an HX Stomp. Most of the time my Catalyst is all I need. With so much less to think about I spend a LOT more time actually PLAYING my guitar!

    DO NOT SHORT-SELL YOUR CATALYST!

Yeah, I've realized these other plugins suck.  The catalyst sounds much better by itself.

I'm considering a Pod GO, simply for more amp models and effecvts than what are out of hte box.

I dont' like buying pedals endlessly for different setups depending upon what type of music I"m messing with at the time.  The all in one approach is very attractive for me.

  3. I got it to work. I didn't realize I could use the USB B to lightning instead of the 1/4.

The hard part was finding how to use amp models instead of the recording section....but it now works...kind of underwhelming, though. Probably because the GB amp models are like 10 years old or so

  4. Has anybody successfully setup amplitude to play via the catalyst?

I am trying this for the first time and cannot figure it out. I have a usb from the computer into the back of the catalyst on the usb c or whatever it is. Amplitude ‘sees’ the catalyst as an input mic, but I cannot get the amp models to be playable.

do I need an audio interface or will this setup work if o change something in a setting or parameter?

This was my first-time trying GarageBand, basic FREE version that came with my iPad.

Plugged into Catalyst, opened GarageBand, told it to use the MIC, selected to record an Instrument, selected Channel 3 (or 3+4 - bypasses the Cat's preamp) as Input, selected "Producer Effects>Echo Tape" as the amp, turned Monitor switch ON, and it just worked. BUT - regardless of what Channel I selected as Input, it would not bypass the Cat's preamp.

I futzed around with it, tried reading the GB manual re using an external AI (not very informative), exited out, ran AUM with ToneX to make sure the Cat was working right, went back and followed the above procedure and it worked. I think what changed was that when I exited the first time it automatically saved what I was doing as a song (My Song). When I re-started GB the second time it automatically re-loaded that song, and now when I selected Ch 3 or 3+4 it works properly, bypassing the Cat's preamp.

Beats me! But that's my story.

So…did you just run the lightning to 1/4 into the effects return and plug the guitar into the catalyst? This allowed you to use the amp models on the catalyst?

  6. I have garageband on iPad and bought all the amp sims. They're good.

I want to play via the amps on garageband on my iPad via the power amp in on the catalyst 200.

How can I do that? I picked up the lightning/1/4" adapter to run the iPad into the power amp in, but when I play no sound appears.

So I ran my guitar into the catalyst and the iPad into the power amp return....what did I do wrong, or is this not giong to work?

Also, if I get a DAW with some amp models on my computer, how do I run it to the power amp in on the catalyst?

I've never done this before, so looking for any help I can.

    thanks!

  7. Hey everybody,

Been playing tubes since the beginning of my guitar journey, but I recently bought a Catalyst 200 as I was very shocked with the tones and feel of this amp.

    Price was good, too.

I liked the fact taht it was a simple amp...didnt' have 1,000,000 options like the Spider line or other modellers I've played with.

However, I have come to hate it's limitations...namely the inability to change boost pedals (only get the one per amp that they hardwired) and the inability to have more than 1 effect and 1 reverb at any given time.

This has led me down teh rabbit hole of considering adding/changing my setup.

I've considered the Fender Mustang GTX100, but also have been thinking about the Helix offerings available that I could use WITH my Catalyst.  I really like the idea of more amp models and a few more options for effects if needed.

I'm not too up to date on the helix offerings, but I don't want to spend 1500.00 either.  As such, I've been thinking about the Helix Stomp. Would adding this to my rig allow me to run more amp types and more effects, or are the limitations similar?

The one thing I like about the Mustang is the ability to have about 33 different amp types and run multiple effects at once. However, I THINK the Catalyst has the better tone.  Is Helix the answer here, or should I go back to tube amps?

  8. I'm new to the digital world of amps and everything, having been a tube player for most of my life.

I am wondering if I can use garageband as a Midi controller and play through the amp?

The garageband app has some great models that are pretty amazing, but can you play via garageband into the catalyst as a power amp?

Also, I read that catalyst's have recording software that can be integrated them via PC.

I ahven't seen anything about this other than what I read online. Is this true?

  9. couple of questions that I can't find answers to:

    1) when setting the drum vs guitar output level for backing tracks, etc., is there a way to save your settings as a default so the drums are not always at 100% volume?  I find that 100% volume really drowns out any guitar output

    2) How can you make, for example, a 5 minute song wtihout every part looping over and over? Example: I chose a back beat, recorded rhythm chords for 8 measures.  recorded another guitar part for 8 measures.  Then I soloed over it...BUT if I choose to record the solo, after the initial 8 measures it loops again and I'm soloing over my recorded solo (if you follow me).  How can I either extend the backing tracks to not loop continuously but rather record 8 measures or whatever, and then extend that to be 24 measures so I can have a longer solo session?

  10. I did find if I use the Pasadena Rock drum track, crank it to 160 BPM, you can do ok for surf.

Unfortunately you can't get 2 snare hits on the second beat and 1 snare hit on the fourth , but it still works out ok.

Amp settings...max reverb (or use a pedal), add a touch of tremolo and tape echo.

I play off of the twang or clean settings and it works pretty well.

However, not sure if I'm hearing hte guitar or just the amp, if you follow me...almost seems as if the guitars

are not showing their true character through the line 6 as a lot of my guitars sound similar through this amp.

    weird.

  11. I've recently picked up a line 6 spider jam after years of being without any L6 gear.

I kind of like this one...and I'm able to dial in a decent surfy tone with it.

however, I'm having difficulty finding proper drum tracks or anything I could use with it.

Am I missing something, or am I going to have to suck it up and create my own?
