    You mean restart the LFO?

I've got a filter pro rack, and to restart the LFO you pressed the tap tempo button once (or the midi cc connected).

Not tried it on the helix, but this might be what you're after?

    yes, exactly.

I need the LFO to start from the beginning of the sweep as soon as I activate the relative snapshot.

I tried with Native demo (I don’t own a HX Effects yet, I’m gathering this information to see if I can pull the trigger or not considering my needs), but I can’t find a way to achieve this easily.

Touching the tap tempo button or sending a CC from another machine are not viable options in my case.

    Thanks a lot

Check out the Global Settings -> Preferences -> Snapshot Edits parameter. Here's a snip from the manual about it:

Determines whether or not any edits made to a snapshot (block on/o , parameter control, Command Center, tempo) are remembered when returning to that snapshot. When set to "Recall," any snapshot edits are recalled when jumping from snapshot to snapshot, and appear as you last left them. When set to "Discard," any snapshot edits are discarded when jumping from snapshot to snapshot, and appear as the preset was last saved. If you want to save changes made to a snapshot while Snapshot Edits is set to "Discard,” press SAVE twice before selecting another. The camera icon on the home screen shows you the Snapshot Edits setting at a glance—When set to "Recall," the camera is gray; when set to "Discard," the camera is red. At any time, hold BYPASS and press SAVE to toggle this setting.

Also check the Global Settings -> EXP Pedals -> Pedal Position parameter

Determines whether the Helix expression pedal positions are recalled per snapshot, per preset, or applied globally. If you want a Volume Pedal or Wah to maintain its position when switching presets, set this to "Global."

I’m not completely sure this would affect the beginning of the sweep.

Is there a way to try this in Native?

  3. Hi guys,

is it possible to set the HX Effects in a way so that the effects types that include “movement” (meaning sweeps, ramp up/down etc.) - for example the Throbber filter - begin from the starting position every time the effect is engaged or on snapshot/preset change?

In my case I was looking to create a lo-pass sweep and I was able to achieve this result by using the Throbber filter, pretty much the way I needed (I’d prefer the option to control the starting and ending frequencies, but still).

The problem is that the sweep is always “moving” while I need it to start over from the beginning when I engage the snapshot.

In another thread a user (btw thanks duncann) wrote that this is possible to reset the LFOs by sending a CC64 command to the HX Effects or by touching the tap tempo footswitch once, but I need to do this automatically on snapshot change, without having to send a CC from another device or phisically touching the tap tempo.

    Is that possible?

    Thanks a lot

  4. In case someone's interested in this, I finally found a solution for the effect I was trying to achieve thanks to the Throbber effect in the Legacy filters (speed 0.1hz, wave Ramp Up).

The only problem left is to make the sweep begin when the effect (or, even better, the snapshot) is engaged; from my tests with Native it seems like the filter always moves and the sweep doesn't start over from its frequency starting point with Snapshot or Patch changes. Is it something that only happens in Native?

  5. It seems like the Asheville Pattrn filter could achieve this effect, but I can't find the right settings.
What I need is a simple sweep of a low-pass filter that goes from 60Hz up to 5kHz in about 6 seconds: is that possible with this effect? How can I achieve this?

    Thanks a lot

  6. Hi,

thanks a lot for your reply.

Exactly, I’m looking for a lo-pass filter that can be automated in order to create a sweep (something like “swoosh” sound if it makes sense lol).

On other units I’m able to program this function by using an LFO controller attached to the lo-pass filter inside an EQ block or, on another unit, by automating that parameter and setting up the beginning and end point along with a certain time to morph between the two points.

I was wondering if I could do the same on the Helix and HX Fx because I’d like to build a setup using one of those units.

So that’s not possible on the Line6 units, do I understand correctly? :(

8.9k-Ohm, a bit of a warmer tone color than the factory pick-ups. You may or may not here the difference.

Beyond that, it shouldn't be a problem if it's wired correctly to the diagram in the Knowledge Base here in the Forum.

    Duncans are pretty good.

    Hi,

could you please tell me if the Duncan SH-2 Jazz Neck (link) and the SH-6 Distortion Bridge (link) would work correctly as well?

    Thanks a lot

You can store 5 presets in each bank - but the JTV-59 switch is 3-way. Have this in mind, if you want to create a 'kill switch' effect.

Good poing, I didn't think about that.
According to the official manual, that doesn't seem a problem though as the 2 and 4 positions can be accessed by using the Alternate Tuning knob:

    Pickup Position Numbering JTV-59
Even though your guitar is equipped with a 3-way Pickup Selector Switch you can still access all 5 models in each model bank. We’ve numbered the Pickup Selector positions in the manual starting with “bridge” (the position toward the bridge) as 1. Moving the pickup selector from there, you go to position 3 on your way to the “neck” position which we label as number 5. To access models 2 and 4 press the Alternate Tuning Knob to toggle between using the 3-way to access models “1-3-5” or “2- 3-4”.

I would probably attempt to digitally model pickups into desired flavors before swapping out stock JTV59 pups.  They're good all around hum bucker pickups.

Cool benefit of modeled pups for high gain playing is reduction of noise.  They run a lot quieter than magnetics for same amplification settings.

If someone has a magnetic pickup guitar they like A/B comparisons can help match practically any favorite guitar pickup using Workbench HD.

I’d absolutely check the stock mags before pulling them out; who knows, maybe I’d like them and keep them on the guitar.

I’m only trying to understand if, in case I don’t like them, I’d be able to put something else in their place.

Ear-matching my fav Duncan pickups to the digital models inside the Variax using Workbench to fine-tune them, is certainly appealing but there still would be contexts in which having a couple of magnetic pups would be better (eg. for songs with a lot of palm muting, which I read is not great with the Variax models).

  10. Hi Todd,

that’s the post I read regarding the resistance:

    https://line6.com/support/topic/2344-replacing-magnetic-pickups/?do=findComment&comment=203066

Also in that thread, a few posts before (link), the same user (Line6 tech maybe?) tells that swapping mag pickups on Variax gtrs and getting it right is a bit hit-and-miss, as the possible issues with 3rd party pickups are random.

Cannot really understand why though, maybe is just a warning based on few bad experiences...not sure to be honest.

  11. Hi guys,
I'm in the process of buying a JTV-59 guitar and, while I may like the stock magnetic pickups once I get the guitar, I was wondering if it would be possible to swap them if needed.
For the last 10 years or so I played a combo of Seymour Duncan SH-2 Jazz Neck and SH-6 Distortion Bridge pickups, so I was wondering if I could place them inside the JTV-59 in case I'll miss their tone.

I read somewhere that it's possible as long as the pickups are in a resistance range of 7-8k, but I'm not sure I got it right nor if the SH-2 and SH-6 would fall into this category.

Do you have any direct experience with these or similar pickups into a Tyler Variax guitar?

    Thanks a lot

  12. Thanks a lot @silverhead!!!

Oh don't worry about the "none" position, I was just meaning "with no sound" and it was just to see if I could get an "empty" position...the 0 volume trick would work perfectly.

Now that I know I can create this kind of bank, I'm even more interested...I'm just a bit skeptical regarding this system being quite old and not so popular among guitarists, but I guess that when it comes to instruments, people tends to be quite conservative and less open-minded.

  13. Hi guys,
I'm interested in the JTV-59 model but, since I never had or even tried a Variax before, I need some help to fully understand what it's capable of.

In particular I'm interested in creating custom banks that have mixed body types and pickups stored in the 5-way position toggle...is that possible?

For example, let's say I want to create a custom bank where I have this configuration of the 5-way selector:

POSITION 5 - one of the acoustic models
    POSITION 4 - Tele neck
    POSITION 3 - Tele Middle
    POSITION 2 - none
    POSITION 1 - LP bridge

is that possible to create a custom bank with this configuration?

    Thanks a lot

  14. so, does it mean that I'd be more limited in the filter department with the Helix in comparison with the HD500? That sounds pretty strange.

Could you please tell me where I can find good Helix presets for this kind of tones?

I only have the Helix Native trial so I can't access the Custom Tone.

  15. Hi guys,
I'm trying the Helix Native plugin but I can't find all those great filters I have on my POD HD500, like the Seeker, Voice Box, Obi Wah, Throbber etc.
Are they somewhere in the Helix or not?
In the Native Plugin I can see just the Mutant Filter, Mistery Filter and Auto Filter.

Sorry for the newbie question, but I'm evaluating the purchase of an Helix Floor because of the great i/o, routing, interface etc, and I'm a bit worried of losing options in the fx department.
I'm sure I'm missing something about the Helix; being a hi-end modeler I guess those tones are in there somewhere. If you could please share your experience, it would be great.

    All the best!

  16. Thanks a lot for the detailed reply!

It seems like a hell of a pedalboard in terms of midi!

What I'm still trying to figure out is: let's say I want to use the Helix for fx and an external rack unit for amp modeling (I already have other gear and I'm trying to figure out if they could work together in an extended rig setup).

Considering that the external unit also has onboard fx that can be recalled via MIDI, does it mean that - for example - if I use a switch on the Helix to turn on/off an Helix fx, would it also automatically send a CC message to the external unit, whether I want it or not?

If it works like that, it could be a problem because - following the previous example - if I activate let's say a phaser on the Helix, it could turn on/off another completely different fx on the external unit, let's say a distortion pedal.

That would mess things up, but I'm more inclined to think that it doesn't work like that and this scenario could be avoided somehow.

If you could please help me on that, it would be great. I'm really looking into the Helix floor, almost convinced to buy it...I just need to figure out if it could work the way I want with the gear I already have.

Thanks a lot, all the best!

  17. Thanks a lot for your reply.

Does it mean that I can also choose which PC command to send on preset load, or do I only have the other option of disabling PC altogether?

Besides I was reading another thread about MIDI where the user was talking about the Helix automatically sending CCs messages on preset load.

    How does that work?

  18. Hi guys,

I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on a Helix Floor pedalboard in order to take advance of the extended i/o and scribble scripts and also use it as a MIDI controller for a bigger setup.

My main doubt is: is it fully customizable in that scenario or does it have some limitations as the POD HD does (fixed PC messages on preset change and stuff like that)?

    Thanks a lot!
