  1. An unshielded microphone cable would be as useful as a screen door on a submarine. Of course they are shielded, sometimes doubly so.
  2. Probably more the risk of signal degradation and voltage drop than anything to do with interference between power and signal.
  3. Yes, the Stage Source speakers are intended for use as FRFR instrument speakers. They have a built-in notion of response profile that may make them more friendly with guitar amplification. If you use the HD500 (X) floor device or (I believe) a Helix, you can configure the speaker personality on a per-patch basis. Whether that's an advantage or not is subjective. Plenty of folks are using, e.g. QSC K-series speakers with great success.
  4. Both of them are involved in making a solid ground connection. It was a poor design choice, IMHO. I ended up soldering discrete ground wires to the transducers in my JTV-69 and haven't had a lick of trouble since. Disclaimer: This modification is not advised for anyone lacking solid electronic bench skills. The transducers can be damaged by excess heat! In addition to soldering skills, the job requires a temperature-controlled iron and proper heat-sinking (I use a metal-jawed hobby vise).
  5. With VDI directly? No, since it's a proprietary Line6 interface scheme. I see no reason why you could not hang one off the effects loop output, but may need to keep the Peterson's input level low to keep it from being overdriven.
  6. Just my $0.02, but if an "Authorized Repair Center" has kept your guitar out of your hands for anything like two months there is something very wrong with either their competence or Line6's ability to provide parts and support. And, FWIW, all three of my LAB Series amplifiers are still going strong after 36-odd years. They are extremely well-designed units and simple to repair. If it wasn't so bulky and heavy I would still be dragging my L-7 to gigs. Love the sound of that beast!
  7. I have used a stroboscopic tuner since falling in love with a tube-operated Conn in the early 70s. There's nothing better for making sense of cases where harmonics alternate slightly sharp and flat. This seems to be common on a lot of stringed instruments and is likely what's causing the needle to swing both sides of 0 on your tuner. When I have correct indicated pitch on my current Peterson tuner, the guitar always sounds perfect. They're a bit more pricey than conventional tuners, but well worth it IMHO.
  8. 'stevekc' (aka Elantric on VGuitar Forum) has a gorgeous Bigsby install on his '59. Search for his posts here and you'll see a photo.
  9. If you spent time with an Antares ATG-1 you might change your mind.
  10. I'd be willing to bet that Full Compass can get you any replacement part for any of the models. Suggest giving them a call.
  11. Full Compass Systems is the only US parts supplier: www.fullcompass.com One note is that they seem to stock very little and have to special order almost everything from Line6. So, expect delays.
  12. Ack - my mistake. It is indeed the center pin. I'll delete that erroneous post.
  13. I hear no artifacts at all on any of the sounds in that video.
  14. The JTV-69 uses ganged pots on a common shaft. Linear taper section for DSP electronics and audio taper for mag pickups. You would have to go to considerable lengths to retain (for example) DSP and mag volume on the outer section of a concentric pot. Doable, but not at all trivial.
  15. The former. Line6 electronics apply a mathematical operation called convolution to the raw sound from the piezos. You can very roughly look at it this way: The designers start with the result they want (say a Les Paul sound), measure what's coming from the pickups and figure out the "difference" between them. That difference is applied to the piezos in real time to make it sound like the Les Paul. If I've offended any DSP experts with this simplification, my apologies.
  16. I suspect the smaller devices are to facilitate pop-free audio switching. The power supply does appear to be a simple TO220 package regulator with some bypass caps.
  17. How would you rate Warmoth's fret-leveling "out of the box"? I might consider upgrading to one if it didn't also require a Plek leveling on top of the neck purchase (as I had to do with the Stew-Mac / Mighty Mite neck).
  18. The last thing to try is re-flashing the firmware on the guitar using Line6 Monkey. If that doesn't correct the problem, make arrangements to return it to the factory for service.
