I was hoping someone can explain this odd situation to me.  

I have 3 heads with effects loops: TSL, DSL, and an JCM 800 with a Metropoulos zero loss.  

When I use my traditional pedal set up that powered with a Voodu Lab pedal power, I don't get any hum out of any of these amps.  Delay and a clean boost are in the loop, a Tube screamer, Hush, and Chorus are in the front.

I then plug in a Line 6 Helix LT multi effects using 4 CM, and I get a signal hum with either of these 3 amps.  I tried the ground lift on the Helix, no change,  I tried the effects loop button on the rear of the heads (+4 or -10) no change.  I also tried this with an old Digitech 1101 effects processor and I get the same signal hum.

Why would I get no hum using the pedal set up but get one using the Helix or Digitech and how do I fix that?

I saw on a you tube video how you can get the Helix LT to change channels on a head.

I've got the LT Ext Out 1/4 going to a Marshall JCM 2000 50 watt head, which is capable of channel switching.

As soon as I plug a guitar cable from the Helix Ext out 1/4 and go to the Marshall 1/4 that is for channel switching, I get a loud hum that won't go away.   I figured out how to make the channels switch, but I get a loud POP every time I go from the clean snapshot to the dirty snapshot.

I don't get any hum when I use the switcher that came with the amp.  I tried a standard guitar cable and a cable that came with a single button switcher pedal...same loud POP with both.   Also a really weird sound changing from Clean Snap Shot to Dirty snapshot.

I think what I'll do is use a Pre-amp block that will bypass my tube amp and allow me to go clean.  Set that up for a snapshot destination #5.

Got an LT with button 1 set for a gain block.  My question is, isn't there a way to hit button 1 again to turn off that gain pedal so I would have a clean tone?

I'm having to use another button to set it without using the gain block, but was wondering if you have it set on button 1, can that turn on and off that particular block in Snapshot mode?

The effects loop that was added to the JCM 800 functions exactly like the loop that is factory installed on my TSL.

I can crank master volume on the TSL and it works the same way...I can still control the volume coming out from the speaker using the volume on the Digitech.

So the effects loop isn't a factor with this scenario.

I guess I'll continue to tinker until I find the solution.  Just wondered if anyone has tried this like I'm trying.

I guess it's not like an actual attenuator that connects to the speaker from the head.  But can you crank the volume (Not Pre-amp) input signal from the amp into the LT without causing any damage. and what are the settings that need to be configured to make it sound good?

So I recently got a the Helix LT.  I'm using it with 4 cable method with a 1982 JCM 800 that has an effects loop added. 

I'm using the LT as an effects only device.  The tone is coming from the head.

Previously, I was using a Digitech 1101 single rack unit the same way...effects only.  When using the rack unit (4 cable method), I was able to crank up the volume on my head to about 6 and really get the tubes and amp to start working.  I'm able to control the volume output level with the volume control on that unit.  So the amp is cranking according to the volume settings, but it's not screaming loud because I can control it from the rack device.  It sounds really good actually.

I wanted an all in one unit so I got the Helix LT.  I tried the same thing but it doesn't "Feel" or "Respond" the same.  Sound isn't as natural or as good as it was with the rack unit.  

I'm thinking there's gotta be a way to make it respond like the other unit because the LT is just far superior otherwise. 

Any suggestions?

The weirdest thing is happening. 

I'm using the Helix LT with my Marshall head with the 4 CM so the LT is effects only.  I've got a Shure Wireless/Tuner combo unit GLXD6 to use instead of the guitar cable to go into the LT>Guitar In.  I instantly can tell that the signal is waaay hotter before I even turn up the guitar knob for volume.  It's like I added another gain pedal to the signal.  I turn up the guitar volume knob and get howling, feedback etc.  It's a mess and sounds like crap. 

I take the wireless unit out of the picture and plug a guitar cable in it's place, and it works as it should.  No issues.  I try the wireless in my analog pedal set up, and it seems fine.  

But trying it with the LT, the signal just seems over the top and noisy.

Why would a wireless unit be adding soo much unwanted input signal that it causes the LT to go nuts and how do I fix it without doing major edits to my Snapshots?

What I want is better knowledge of this device and it's capabilities.

I know what I need to do to get a decent sound and get playing...I've done that.

Snap 1:Rhythm tone crunch with slight Reverb only.

Snap 2: Solo with Reverb, Delay at 480, Chorus, Boosted Output level at end of chain.

Snap 3: Also solo, same settings as #2 but with a longer delay 520.

Snap 4: Similar to Snapshot #1 but with 480 Delay and 1/2 amount of boost.

Snap 5: Set for Clean tone, working on that, not done. Ignore for now.

Snap 6: Empty

Snap 7: Empty

Snap 8: Similar to Snapshot #1 but only with Flanger.

 This is for when I want to run the Helix LT into an effects loop of an amp head and cab to have on stage.

If I wanted to run a signal to the front of house PA, I'm guessing that I would need to duplicate everything from Path 1 into Path 2 but adding an amp and cab to Path 2, and making sure Path 2 is set for XLR out...for all the 8 snapshots.  Is that correct? 

I'm guessing that Path 2 would not be used at all if I didn't have any XLR's plugged in the Helix for when I don't want to go to front of House...so Path 2 is not active then?

Would this also work if I ever wanted an actual amp behind me plus a powered speaker in front like a monitor?  I'd have to edit Path 2 for either FOH or FRFR?

One last thing, say I want to use a FRFR speaker in front of me only.  My snapshots are built with an actual amp in the signal.  If I wanted to use a FRFR, would I have to edit ALL 8 of my current snapshots by adding in an amp/cab block?  Is there a way where I can leave my current 8 snapshots as is for an actual amp set up and build 8 others for FRFR?

I'd like to hear suggestions on the best way to make this happen.

The "Mix" knob of the delay does not have the white brackets around it.  I've pressed it, but no brackets.  Only brackets on the delay time show it.  I tried it, no luck.  This is what I need though.

Since I'm new at this device, I doubt that I've reach a max of anything.

As mentioned, I hear a trail off, but it's very slight so I guess that's working.

My set up for snap shots goes like this:

I'm a new Helix LT user.  As of now, I'm using the 4 cm with my favorite amp.  I believe that I've gotten 6 out of 8 Snapshots stored for my usual tones.

The #2 solo snapshots has a faster delay with a touch of chorus and custom volume boost from the output setting.  #3 snapshot is a longer delay with same settings otherwise.

Screenshot 2>For the delay, I know that by pressing the small black knobs just under the screen gives you white brackets to make the delay time setting to be different than the 3 snapshot.   

But what do I do if I need to also adjust the mix of the delay effect per snapshot?  I've tried a few things and it seems to not allow me to edit the mix differently, it affects the delay for all the snapshots.  I can edit the delay time but can't do delay time plus the mix or another setting.  What's the work around for that?

One other thing, I've set all the wet effects: Delay, Reverb to "Trail off" when done with the solos so the delay can carry over when jumping back to dry setting for rhythm.  I only hear a small part of the trailing when I switch over though.  If I exaggerate the delay level, then it's too much for that solo snapshot.  

How do I increase the Trail off without messing up the solo snapshot delay level?

This is good info to know...but is there a way to NOT make it boost the signal?  This is a major problem, I can't believe that they didn't know this would happen.

I downloaded a bunch of decent tones from the Tone Library that other users uploaded.  My thoughts were to tweak those already made settings slightly to my preference and be done. 

The "EVH 5150 III" tones are actually pretty good.  I have a Delay, Chorus, and Flanger effect going through the effects loop chain on the signal path, and assigned buttons to activate or de-activate either of these on the top row of the HD500x. 

When I hit the Chorus effect, I get a bump in volume.  The same happens with the Flanger, but not as much as the Chorus.  I tried to change the Mix level and Tone level, and anything else I could think of to get the volume to not be boosted but it still happens. 

How do you fix this?

So it looks to me that the way I want to use this is to add a separate boost and delay pedal and assign it to a separate patch.  Kinda makes me think, do I have enough spaces to have all this happen on the original tone? :)

Yes to #1 and #3. 

I have #1 set up already.  If I were to use the same boost, but added a different delay with a different delay time, I can't get the boost to work on another button because it seems that it's already programmed on the first one.  Only the second delay works.  Should I add another boost then and assign it with the new delay to another button?  Seems like I should be able to do what I'm thinking without adding a complete separate boost though...hmm. :wacko:

2 things to mention....

Ok, so the other night I'm messing with different delay options.  I have the guitar into the HD500x which is plugged into a Mesa 50/50 stereo power amp, then using 2 Marshall cabs left and right.  Is it me or do some of the delay options only give delay out of one cab more than the other? 

I left my left and right volumes the same on the power amp, and scroll through different delay options, and I hear the delay effect more noticeable out of one cab over the other.  I know that ping pong delay wilI have a "bouncing" effect, hence the name...duh? :D , but I swear it was a stereo delay.

I'd then switch to a completely different delay effect, and then hear it out of both (probably an Analog delay).

This was really noticeable with 2 cabs.  Normally, I'd be using only 1 cab, but with all the stereo cabs out now, I can run left and right within the same cab.  This has me a bit confused.  Anyone else hear this?

The other things is this...

Let's say you have a rhythm patch and you have 2 effects (boost with a 400milisecond delay) to both get activated simultaneously on another button for the same patch.  Ok....no problem. 

Now using the same rhythm patch, you want to use the same boost again, but you want to add another delay pedal but with 600ms delay to be used with the boost, (instead of the 400ms one) on another button.  I'm able to get different effects to work at the same time together on one button, but when I tried to use the same effect 2x with a different delay on a different button, it wouldn't work.  :angry:

I was using the Analog delay setting.  Mix was low and it was close to being good but repeats cut off to quick.  Increased the mix level and the slap back was as loud as the original signal.

Which one has the ducking?  Maybe that's the one?

Newbie here...well....kinda...

Does anyone know how to make the very first delay "slap back" sound NOT to be as loud as the original or actual note?

I'm messing with the mix level and no matter what I do, I can't get the beginning of the first repeated note to be lower in volume than my last note played.  I got the right amount of feedback and all, I just want the very first one to be less noticeable.

It's pissing me off.  The mix too low, cuts off the amount I want, the mix to high, is too much...wtf?

My rack unit works just like I need it too.  This should as well...Arrrgggh!

Can someone give me info on how to connect the cables to have effects only?  Not the 4CM, I know how to do that.

Newbie here.  I purchased a 500x because I wanted a portable multi effects pedal board with amp tones if I chose to use them.  I love the tones I get from the amps I already have, I just want to use effects when I need them. 

I learned how to turn off all effects and amp settings.

I went in and changed the input source to be "guitar" for input 1 and "same" for input 2.

I plugged the guitar into the "guitar in" of the 500x, and from the "unbalanced out left", I went to the front of the amp. 

I wasn't getting the full power of the amp.  Something wasn't right. It sounded like the 500x was limiting the power somehow.

I just wanted to have the amp be like it is if you plug in directly to the input of the head, but have effects programmed to any preset on the 500x.  Like using pedals. 

Once I get this figured out, I'll try the 4 cable method, which I think is a good way to go, but one step at a time for this newbie. :)
