You are Ranting at Line 6 I assume when you say "Maybe you should..."  You are barking up the wrong tree.  We are users here.  We help each other solve problems but we don't have anything to do with your problems.

Why don't you give it a rest there Charlie???

    Seems yer "Ranting" too.........

Or is this a private club for fanboys?

After all....your just a regular smuck, like me,who's ego seems to have gotten out of hand.,

I'm not going to quit using the forum on your say so.

Line6 reads the posts and thats why I've posted what I have said here.

    We is a user also.

    C W

I am not sure who you are talking to here.  This is a USER's Forum!!!!!

Well I wasn't addressing you per say. More like the orignal poster and Line6. It was a general statement and evaluation from a registered "USER", former or not, on an open forum site where everybodys opinion is supposed to be welcome.

If you don't like what I have said, I'm sorry....an easy fix is to not read my posts.

Be mature and realize that other people might have a different opinion than yours.

I didn't think it was up to you to moderate the forum either.

Agree to Disagree if you will.

But it looks like others agree with the statement made.

    Now your sure....................C W

  3. I had nothing but trouble with BOTH my new JTV-59 and DT25 amp. Also a Spider-75 for my grandson that wasn't worth having.

Yet, if you post a less than flattering response to another person that is having the SAME problems that I and many others were having......

and I find this very enlightening, a Product Engineer,ie:Digital Igloo, from Line6 comes online and passes out negitive votes 'cause he doesn't respect your opinion.

Maybe you should work harder on making a better more RELIABLE product and not be so narrow minded when you get some negitive feedback.

After All....It's supposed to be an "Open Forum" and that includes both the good and the not so good.

The truth is that alot of customers are having REAL problems and the solution seems to be to try to keep any opinion you don't want to hear off the forum site? Yup, you have a core of happy users, but the truth is the Forum is loaded with alot more folks having problems than you seemingly want to admit.

And all the while we,as consumers, are supposed to be glad that we bought stuff that has an obviously substancial amount of glitches, bad parts, bad firmware, poor support and a failing reputation for being reliable?? How much redoing and reflashing and rolling back and not working and paper under the knobs and sending in back for repair is OK with you???? One doesn't buy this gear so we can fix it at home when you provide a less than quality product.

If you don't want poor evaluations here.....make better stuff!

I dont think I can send it in since I live in Norway... Going to use it for home a while and if it works fine, then I am going to sell it to someone who do not gig. I do have a nice amp... Blackstar Artisan 30 :-) But its a bit heavy...

I dont want a standby amp in my car. I have to trust in my gear. Also thinking of selling the rest of my line6 gear... Maybe I just have to calm down first... :-)

Thank you for your answer Tboneous!

I got so pissed off at my "Dream Rig" that I pulled into a electrical recycling center and threw the CRAP in the dump! Travel 2 days to a gig at a private party and yer S**T don't work when you get there??Good thing they don't make airplanes or sumthin' really important Thank God!

I don't see the possibility of this stuff becoming vintage 40 year old gear that still works and you can still get parts for either.

Thanks for the replies. I did have the latest driver. Pretty sure I followed those same steps, I did try multiple times. I had assumed since the amp was acting like my DT50 when it had a failed tranformer, it was time to take it to the only Line 6 authourized service center around. After 10 days he called and said he had determined the the effects board ? had failed and needed to be replaced. He stated that Line 6 recently went to a email only parts process and that so far they had not been able to get in touch with Line 6. I reminded that I had attempted a firmware update and asked if was certain it needs new effects board ?

He just said yes. Kind of makes me wish I still had the amp with me ....

I never got Monkey to show that it could see the v1 firmware, so sadly I don't if it was in fact broken from a failed effects board before I started or if now only appears to be broken to the tech because of the failed update. The hope was that by using a authourized service, he would be in close contact with Line 6 and up to date on all the diagnostic procedures from them. I not really getting that warm fuzzy though..  The guy who runs the store told me Line 6 was bought by Yamaha, who in his opinion is the obsolete worst manuafacture in the world for getting replacement parts   .. Thankfully, I am only doing open jam nights and using the house amp or I would of had to run out and bought another amp already .. For my DT50 it took 3 months for the transformer to be shipped to the dealer ....

    I know that I swore I wouldn't post anymore........

But it sure looks like another satisfied customer to me !!!!!

    I'm just sayin'

    E-mail parts only...wait for days....Months.....

Effects board failure kills entire amp set-up....

Dream Rigs turn to nightmare Gigs....

T-Boner!!!!****Will Personal Messenger 'Ya with times and dates TBA if that's OK???

    Have to keep info private.

Remember that I'm a guest at friends homes when we travel.

Hope yer housebroke and have had ALL your shots.

Reguardless, we will hook it up out there OCT. somehow.....

Glad you had sucess with your latest outing.

Have some Rasputin Imperial cold Little Brother,

Will keep an eye on things as I need a good laugh once in a while....

  6.  Just a note to everybody here in the lounge,

As I don't have Line6 gear anymore, I'm gonna withdraw from posting on the forum any longer.

Everyone here has been more than gracious to let me have my opinion and say my piece.

I don't want to be the guy that just rags on stuff to be confrontational, or come off as a "Line6 Hater".

If it fits your needs and you like it, then by all means use it!

I personally just prefered different gear.

I don't harbour any ill feelings toward anyone for standing their ground and hope that I leave here with the same respect that I have for all of my fellow musicans.

    Keep wackin' that axe....

    Play every chance you get...

    And for heaven's sake..........................................PRACTICE !!!!!!!

    so what? who cares?

what really matters is the sound delivered 2 the audience; 'n this sound is really great!

i forgot in my previous post 2 mention the typical conversation after each live:

they ask me: "is this a real deal guitar?".

i say "no it is not".

they ask: "is it a magic guitar then?".

i say: "no it is not".

then they ask: "what the f-cking lollipop is it then?"

    'n i say: "this is a jtv".

+2 2 n old school player 4 still blabing with us ...high tech gagets...

    Hi John,

I wouldn't have even given it a try if I didn't think that it didn't have potential.

Thing is.....I got the "Sound of Silence" instead of "Double Trouble" one too many times.

Yer S**T don't sound like anything when it don't work.

Mine was "Magic" too.......It would do stuff you wouldn't believe.....so I made it vanish..... ;)

T-Bone has it right.....You make the gear sound good.......not the other way around.

Keep playing and having a good time, how you get there isn't important as you well know.

If you get the sound you need with what you have, then you have accomplished your first major goal.

The world would be boring if we all had identical tastes and opinions and played the same gear

'cause we'd all sound the same.

We just left there after 2 gigs at private parties for the "Rich & Famous".

That's pretty much what we do as we are a bunch of retired "old pro's" that vacation around in our motorhomes and hobnob with the financialy endowded. Somebody has to do it!!!!!!

Looks like we're back in late Oct. so I'll P.M. Yer A** and we will see if we can blow it up then.

Sounds like you might fit in with the boys. We'll keep the particulars private though.

i also like the astonishment look on the sound guys when i change tunings on the fly or use dual guitar stereo sounds; "what the lollipop is going on here?" , they r wandering; "how the heck is this happening with only one instrument? Is this guitar magic?"

and if my 69s blows up a bunch of computer parts or has so many glitches, i do not worry, i still got the blues eee i mean mags....

    happy jamming everyone! :)

Can I have that '72 strat that yer not gonna use anymore?????

I'll bet that it sounds better than your 69 on the mags.

You can just make up another make pretend one on your computer.

The whole system that you tout so proudly only tries to copy the sound of the guitars, amps or effects that were produced by the orignals of each of those items. The Variax doesn't do anything orignal by its self , alt tuning on the fly exception here, other than combine all of those into one unit that is computer controlled. The  AC30 amp sound isn't created by any Line6 product, or any other amp setting, none of the guitar models are different from the originals, nor are any of the effects that you use. Yes, you can craft a different set-up in Workshop, but that still is a copy of what would have been hard built in the day.If the orignals weren't great you wouldn't be trying to reproduce them. You'd be inventing something new never been done before. Also piling on the effects doesn't make one a better guitar player. Stick to the meat and potatoes and really play dual leads, makes a better show, unless you play alone?? And if you like the acoustic models??? You need your hearing checked.

The benefit of having everything all in one, Swiss Army Knife, is generally over ridden by the weakest link cascading failure syndrome.

Never the less, If your a techno head, you can play around and entertain yerself forever with this gear, and it's great for that.

I think it tries to do too much and is overloaded with S**T that most people will never use and that it just gets WAY to compilcated for the average user.

The main difference in opinions seems to be either those that like high tech gagets, and fiddling with them, or Old School Players who have found their set-ups and music genre's and are comfortable in where their at. We don't need to try and sound like ten different bands, or have every effect known to man to play a show. Who has the talent???? You? or your IBM?...

Givin' you a + John cause you seem like a knowledgable guy and I like blabing with ya. We're gigging several private parties and are kickin' it on the coast and traveling for the next week. HOT here in California, so the ocean is nice. Trip ends in Washington at a big winery...so life is GREAT.

Still will adopt that Strat for 'ya though

if you throw in that Fender Prosonic Combo!!!

  13. Anything that tries to be everything all at the same time is just a copy of the orignal models or guitars that it is trying to mimic. The "Real Deal" would be an orignal of one of those having been handmade by craftsmen, not a computer program that strives to reproduce them. Bo Diddley's handmade shoebox axe is the "Real Deal". Is it the best guitar ever made? No! The Variax will NOT give one the different feel of each indivual guitar...Neck, wood, weight, set-up, fingerboard, fret action, scale length or any of the variations that exist between them. I enjoy the different feel that I get when I pick up my Tele or Strat or LP or Casino, or Taylor acoustic.

Also, I"ve never had a "Real Deal" guitar blow up a bunch of computer parts or have so many glitches.

A string, a switch or pot, but never total failure. Easy fixes.

I'm sure that you know what I meant, but I hope your dream rig doesn't let you down anymore than what it already has according to your posts.

I've said my piece, I support all my fellow musicans out there, no matter what you play or use as your favorite rig. I don't care if it's a comb wrapped in wax paper for a harmonica. Heck, I watched a guy with no arms play a guitar with his feet once.

Let's all get together, jam and have a cold one.

    I'm going to the beach............................

  14. Thinking about this topic, there are a few points worth mentioning:

    1.  Not everyone hears, or perceives, things the same way.  Some of us are more discriminating than others.  If you aren't getting the tonal quality you like out of the "Dream Rig" then it probably is not for you.  Like Chuckie, I hope you find the gear combination that satisfies your ears and soul.

    2.  Electronics gear often comes off of the line with defects that are not exposed during the manufacturing, or even the quality control process.  Sometimes it takes a bit of time and "burn in" for these defects to begin to show up.  That's why Line 6 provides a warranty period, during which time, the device can be repaired or replaced at no cost.  Advice:  During break-in periods (and even after), have a backup plan (see #5 below)

    3.  In my opinion, the JT Variax as well as the HD500/x are consumer grade gear, but fun and versatile.  The guitars aren't even a pale shadow of something like a Les Paul Custom Shop.  The HD500/x's are a bucket full of compromises, and at heart are computers, that will most likely die, or become obsolete in time.  It can also be argued that the POD will not match the sound quality of a well crafted, expensive, tube amp, or even higher end modelers, such as those from Kemper, or Fractal Audio.  The HD PODS are also A LOT less expensive than the others I've mentioned.  If you've got expensive ears, and a wallet that can indulge them, by all means, go for it! :)

    4.  The DT Amps, to me, are the high point of the "Dream Rig" in terms of sound, versatility, and quality.  However, being high voltage electronics devices, they can be susceptible to heat, electronics failure, and tube wear.   These can sometimes fail as well during a performance, as can almost any amp.

    5.  I only play out with my rig about once a month, and I have had no failures in the last couple of years of gigging with it.  That said, I always have a fallback if one of the elements fails.  For my JT59, I can fall back to the mags.  For the HD500, I can plug my guitar directly into my DT25.  For the DT25, I can plug my HD500 directly into the PA system.  I keep a set of "Pre" tones for using my DT25, and a set of "Normal" tones for going PA direct.  Is this ideal? No, but it will get me through the show.  If your performance demands that you have full replacement ability and exact tones for every song during a show, then bring replacements for everything. I would find it hard to believe that high paid professionals don't bring backup gear "just in case"

By the way, I'm not making these points as a "Line 6 Expert,"  but as a regular guy who likes to play, enjoys the flexibility that the "Dream Rig" offers, and finds the tones to be easily good enough to sit nicely in the band's mix.  My $.02 USD

    Big Chas

The Chuckewheat agrees with the Big Chas......Thanks Brother!

Believe me we travel with back-up gear and an equipment tech at all times.

No sense posting a demo video of the PRS Archon for John though...it's FULL of tubes and stuff, 5 seperate gain channels alone,

and it would still be hooked up to my antique "ol pedal board" anyway.

I would also like to bring up the fact that we can fix our "old stuff" ourselves, but all of the Line6 gear had to be returned for repair

and or replacement that seemed to take forever.Poor parts availability on the road. That time lag wasn't something that works for us and you can't use it while it's at the repair shop!

I only had my 59, for a little over a year and as I said, it bricked updating, the updates sucked, string volume issues, poor palm muting and not quite the finger picking responce I need, the models started popping, it went all wookie and had to be reflashed 3 or 4 times, the 3 way switch quit and I thought the frets where to high to what I was used to. The amp was the highlight, but not better than what I already had.

My opinion was that the gear was just average at best and not of the quality that we have the luxury of having and playing as a band.

If you like it, PLAY it! If you don't play it, get rid of it!

If yer happy with a Dream Rig...GREAT! It just didn't turn out to be my rig.

But also notice what the greats play......The Real Deal.

Oh Yeah, and analog pedal boards.

I can afford the good stuff and can tell the difference....

Just got a new PRS Archon amp...........WOW!

Glad you like your gear and wish you all the best too.

I guess that I honestly never really liked having to F around with a computer all the time.

Plus my 59 went south 3 different times on me.

If you can't afford better stuff.....buy a Kia.

But it will never be a Rolls..........

Now, where's my 68 Custom Shop Les Paul????

  17. I just got rid of the same stuff that you have for sale. Can I ask why you made the decision to sell yours?

I found mine to be totally unreliable in a live performance situation and switched back to my old gear.

Which by the way, sounds much better and has never quit on me during a show.

Besides, the actual guitars and analog effects  sound better than some modeled reproduction and are MUCH less complicated to use and don't require sitting at your computer all day trying to get your stuff to sound right.

I'd rather use my time PLAYING music than fixing up another lame update or problem with this stuff.

If one likes to diddle around endlessly with your gear, than this stuff is for you..............

Went back to  REAL guitars and amps&analog effects.

Modeling will NEVER replace a well built axe, too many variables.

Done with the constant stuff associated  w/Line6, updates

& products and ???? support. Much more depth and body back to our sound without a MONKEY being involved....................

Now everything actually works! And I don't need an expert anymore, 'cause I ain't got no questions

    Gotta go.....We're booked solid.

See You On The Radio..............           Chuckie &

                                                                The Band

  19. 1. 1,9 to 2.0

3." USB Death Dongle"---which failed and actually bricked my guitar.

    4. Adjusted all affected models in Workbench HD after being returned from Line6 Service.

    5. Only noticed it on Spank & Tele Mods.

    6. Did not have any volume issues w/ 1.9.....Came installed at time of purchase.

Not even going to try 2.1, I feel safe with what I've got working right now and I sure as heck WON"T hook up with "The Death Dongle" again for up-dates. Will use my partners HD500 or just call it good enough.

  20. When I made a post about getting a manual with my new Spider IV-75 all I got for my efforts was the posting of negitive votes on my profile by the Company "Experts". Seems here that I'm not the only one who thinks that getting a REAL manual with your gear isn't too much to ask. Heck, they could have a DVD in the box with all the info and instructional video's included for about .60 cents a pop. I just bought a VACUUM CLEANER for goodness sakes and it had a complete DVD included.

I think the last thing people want to do after buying new stuff, is to put it down and then have to search for instructions and manuals on-line. Then when you get a manual they are poorly written and hard to follow in my experiance.

Attacking users, whether they be "experts" line6 official, or any other forum member is "not cool".

This reply is for Tony Reese,Line6 Customer Service Manager :

This is the post that attempts to hummiliate one of your customers on-line.  I find this type of behaviour totaly unacceptable and a misuse

of ones privledge to be an "Expert" on this site. If, and I repeat IF, it was warranted all all, it should have been approched by Personal Message or private E-Mail and attended to by yourself personally. I am offended by this seemingly public flailing by one of your Company Representitives.

  22. Direct support in the forums proved not to work for us for the reasons above among other things.

The forums exists for users to talk to each other. The "Welcome to the Forums" announcement reflects Line 6 staff's and the Expert's roles in our forums. Direct support is provided by phone or by ticket. If you've had a negative experience with either the Experts or my support team, I encourage you to PM me to discuss.

We aren't being allowed to talk to each other. That's the issue here. We are monitored and censored so that anything that isn't a glowing review

is being deleted and or removed. We don't need or want a response from an "Expert" every time. Sometimes we want to talk as users or fellow musicans or maybe just to blow off a little frustration. Nope, Mom shows up and sends us all to our rooms or spanks us in public.

Maybe you should include some training in with the requirement to become an "Expert"? Like customer relations? Respect for your customers? A civil tone would go a long way....so would some free space to use the forum as intended.

  23. There's got to be something better than a bunch of basement electricians "testing" and speculating on things.... If you they woult take some initiative and actually show up here and answer questions, then archive that information, that would be that. But, as explained to me by an official Line 6 representative, these forums are for users to assist each other, and thats it.

The worst part is, the "experts" are the forum....with no supervision from Line6 so they do and say what they want.

The first thing they need to change in my opinion.

Customer support is POOR at best.

More bad votes for me I'd expect......

  24. This forum is a perfect place to measure failure rate since most people complaining here haven't gotten any good results from tech support so they come here as a last ditch effort to get their problem solved before they give up.

The next good place to check is Ebay & Craig's List - there you can see all the Line 6 stuff being sold by unhappy users - and there are thousands of them.

The sad thing is Line 6 has a lot of good ideas but they never seem to follow through to make the product complete.

Bugs always seem to be left unfixed in lots of cases before they finally stop production and move on to the next idea.

The Variax, the HD 500, the Relay wireless all have on going issues that have never been addressed.

Tracking glitches, software that doesn't work properly, faulty battery compartment doors, etc., etc.

We took our hard earned money and bought this gear and I think Line 6 owes it to us to fix these and other issues (add yours here).

For instance I shouldn't have to use duct tape to keep the freakin' batteries from falling out on the floor every time I use the Relay wireless.

Line 6 should find a fix and make replacement parts available for a reasonable fee or free.

Just because you personally don't have these issues that doesn't make them any less real for us who do.

Here's a GREAT example why the forum site is ruining Line6's reputation.....

Voice your own opinion...and more negitive votes cast from the experts.

That's how it works.  SAD SAD SAD !
