I experienced the 'locked display but sound is ok' while i was recording on SD card.

It turned out that the SD card was broken.

I replaced the SD card and the 'locked display ...' was gone.

Hi wersonnst,

the 'VolumeDropFeature' nearly killed my 250pax gig on Saturday evening this weekend.

During perfomance the acoustic guitar on input 1 and the female lead singer on input 4 'disappeared'.

At the sound check i already noticed the 'VolumeDropFeature' on the digeridoo, but i just exchanged the mic SM57

because i thought the SM57 was broken.

I searched this forum and now i believe that the root cause is the lousy hardware design and failing quality control of the M20d.

Circuit boards scratching at the metal casing?

Internal cable connectors loosing contact?

Grounding lost causing trouble?

I really like the M20d, but those hardware design flaws drive me crazy...

OK, one of the accus was broken.

It was fully charged at the beginning of the rehearsal.

I think i need to check the accus (i use Fischer Amps accus) more 'seriously' ...

Hi, yesterday evening i did a rehearsal with my band.

I use six XD V75, beltpacks and handhelds, together with an antenna splitter AD-8

The singer used a XD-V75 beltpack with a 't-bone HeadmiKe'.

I recorded the session with the M20d and everything went fine for the first 90 min.

Then suddenly the V75 receiver LED bar (the right one) turned red and the display on the beltpack turned off.

The green LED on the beltpack started blinking slowly (i have never seen that blinking before ...).

The beltpack is fully dead now, no connection to the receiver.

Can the headset http://www.thomann.de/de/the_tbone_headmike_d_shure.htm kill the beltpack??

Anything i can do?

Try to open the 'no sound' files in program VLC.

There is a good chance that the recorded audio is in the files, but some header data is missing and 

Windows Media Player and m20d won't play it. But VLC will.

I also had 'stopped' recordings.

Issue was the SD card. MicroSD with adapter from Transcend, class 10.

It was at maximum class 5 and had reproducible write errors.

I replaced it with a reliable card an everything is fine now.

Hi all,

i have the same Apple setup with USBtoEthernet and Airport Express.and i like it.

There are two points to mention:

- the two wifi bands 2.4 and 5 GHz of the Airport Express are always ON, not possible to switch the 2.4 off and use the 5 only.

  I use Line6 wireless XD mics and they operate on the 2.4 GHz and i need to avoid any interference with other wifi devices like the Airport Express.

- Airplay is nice, but i would use it for rehearsal only. On stage with 'wifi active audience smartphones' i would always use a cable from iPad to m20d.

  The risk of a dropping wifi connection between iPad and Airport Express is just too high, imho.

The iPad M20d app is 'just' a remote control. No audio data will be created and/or processed, so Android-Audio-Latency does not matter at all.

I think the Line6 software development department is out of date.

With a modern development environment like Xamarin it is no problem to publish software to both iOS and Android with minimal effort.

Just look at the apps for Behringer X32. iOS, Android (by a third party), PC, Mac. Monthly Bugfixes and Updates.

No. iPad only.

Wow wow wow! First time i hear this. I am using MicroSD in an adapter and had severe issues like 'recording stopped and touchpad freeze while performing on stage'.

I discussed this issue here on the forum and the only answer from Line6 was 'use another class 10 card', so i lost faith in M20d reliability.

That's a good tipp, i will replace MicroSD with standard SD (although i do not understand why the adapter causes an issue)

i think the adapter you need is a Shure WA 310 http://www.thomann.de/de/shure_wa310_anschlusskabel.htm.

With this adapter you can attach a standard dynamic XLR micro (e.g. SM58) to the Line6 XD-V Beltpack with TA4F TQG.

(I assume in your application the AKG B29L male XLR-out acts electronically as a standard XLR Mic)

Unfortunately this adapter is 29 Euro at Thomann.de shop, but if do-it-your-own soldering is an option for you

As i understand the AKG B29L is a 'mini mixer' for two AKG specific clip-on mics, so i think the XD-V75 TR is the better option for you.

The Relay G90 is for guitar players and offers guitar-specific options like 'guitar cable simulation' ...

At that time i had no iPads hooked up.

So backing up a bit ... did you create a folder on the SD card for the recording to live in prior to recording?

 

If so, did you ever record into this folder before?

- the SD card i use fits the technicals spcifications given by Line6

- I never had any read/write issues with this card

- there were several 'Recordingnnn' folders on the card from previous recording sessions

- i deleted ALL previous recording sessions with the M20d, so i guess there were no recording folders left on the card

- i think i did not create a specific folder for the recording, the folder was created and named automatically by m20d.

- i hope i remember everything correct :-)

I could analyze the 'frozen recording' files on the SD card.

The M20d loaded the recording session but showed a length of 0 seconds for the recording and did not play.

In Windows Explorer all files had the same byte-size, about 89 MByte each.

When i compressed one of the .wav files with ZIP the resulting .zip was about 72 MByte, so the files were not empty but had audio data in them.

Session.dat was corrupted and was missing the information about the channels. (I guess corrupted session.dat is the reason why M20d could not load the recording)

Windows Media Player did not load the .wav files and throwed an error message.

VLC did load the .wav files and played them without any problem.

VLC 'converted' the files to standard Audio CD files that could be saved as .wav

I could load the 'converted' files in my DAW Ableton 9.

In Ableton most of the files had the same length (about 10min30sec), but some files were about 2 seconds shorter??

I use the latest Airport Express router together with the Apple USB to Ethernet Adapter and this works fine for me.

But i want to be able to switch off the 2.4GHz Wifi and use the 5GHz Wifi only for the iPad .

I use wireless Line6 microphones XD-V75 and they operate on the same 2.4GHz wifi range,

so i want to avoid any interference between the airport and the wireless mics.

Unfortunately it is not possible to switch off the Airport 2.4GHz 

Does anyone here know a hardware hack or any other trick to switch off the 2.4GHz selectively, but leave the 5GHz in operation?

Hi all,

yesterday i recorded my gospel choir (12 mics, 1 e-piano) on a nearly empty Samsung 32 SD-card.

The 'Recording' screen showed nearly 4 hours of free recording time for the card.

The first set with 51 minutes was recorded without any issue.

At the beginning of the second set something went wrong.

After 10 minutes of recording the m20d became unresponsive and the screen 'froze'.

I tried somehow to save the recording but failed.

So after a song i decided to switch off and on again, and i lost the recording of about 5 songs.

The system rebooted 'just in time', the audience did not notice and i could record the final 20 minutes of the concert.

I was extremely pissed and thought about reprogramming the M20d with a nice big axe.

Hey, the system must not freeze, else it is useless.

Did anyone else experience the 'Mixer freezing while performing'-hell??

Is there a cure?

Ableton Live 9 Suite. Just because i already had it.

The files recorded on SD card are standard 24 bit/48 kHz .wav format,

so every serious DAW should be able to handle that.

I would get the latest model (mid 2012) MC414.

It has simultaneous dual-band, i.e 2.4 GHz and the 5 GHz WiFi at the same time.

It has two ethernet ports, one for an internet WAN modem, the other for standard LAN stuff.

It features a WLAN-Bridge mode that i need sometimes.

And it has separate power cable so that i can place the AirPort wherever i want.

The older models have a 'Power Adapter' design and must be plugged in directly.

I do not know if the older models will work. They have an ethernet port, but as i understand that port is for a WAN Internet modem.

It would be a hardware made by Line 6. Something like a 'Converter from L6 Link-IN into S/PDIF-OUT or TOSlink-OUT'.

Just take the L6 Link data stream and output the audio part in 24bit 48kHz stereo. Sounds not too tricky to me.

But the real issue is that i can not play recordings from SD-card and record the MainOuts digitally at the same time.

When i play my recording from SD-Card and then plug in the USB-PC cable the replay stops and the following message is displayed:

'Multitrack recording to SD/USB storage is not available while connected to a computer'.

The second part of this message is correct: i have connected a computer to USB-PC.

But the first part makes no sense: The M20d is currently REPLAYing a multitrack recording FROM SD/USB storage.

Yes. That is what i do for weeks now.

I cut the recordings in the DAW Ableton Live9.

And then i want to do a nice mix and i want to use  ..... not Ableton Live 9 but uber-gear Line 6 M20d, my dear uber Guru.

So i export my cutted recording from Ableton back to SD-card.

And after i have modified the session.dat accordingly i load the 'cutted recording session' into the M20d again.

And then i do a mix of this recording with this nice M20d sound.
