Well...I suppose I'll take what I can get. But Pop Tarts just aren't the same as white toast with the crusts cut off and seedless raspberry jam. ;)
-
And still no toaster in it either...no matter how many times I request it on Ideascale, I think they're ignoring me. How do they expect us to be able to play without toast?!?!?!?!... :P

Lol...I thought this was gonna be a "Why isn't my Helix here yet?" thread... :P

Taking Variax to get setup
cruisinon2 replied to Kedhrin's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Aside from the piezos being a bit more sensitive to fret-buzz than a mag pickup, there's nothing particularly mystifying about setting up a Variax. The tapping issue does seem odd, however...haven't seen that particular complaint before. Tapping is not a huge part of my sersenal, but I've never had an issue with in on the JTV. -
As far as I'm concerned the biggest difference is feel, not so much tone...although the harder woods do seem slightly darker on some guitars...but that could easily be attributed to other factors...hard to say. Also, how the various woods react to seasonal changes in temperature and humidity I find to be significantly different. Maple is a softer wood than either rosewood or ebony, and while I've only owned a couple of guitars with maple necks over the years, both of them required much more frequent and more dramatic truss rod adjustments than any of my rosewood or ebony necks. I have a couple of ebony necks that hardly move at all, while the maple ones will twist themselves into pretzels, by comparison.

When you get right down to it...these are really the only two reasons that most dudes do anything... ;)

The speaker rattle is well documented warranty issue...went through that myself. It's pathetic that it's as widespread a problem as it is, especially this long into production, but they are quite good about fixing it. As for the rest, there's nothing wrong with not liking a piece of gear, but I think you're expecting a little much from the whole FRFR concept. I'd love it if I never had to tweak patches again. It's a pain in the arse sometimes...but nothing is ever that convenient. Like everything else in the universe, not all FRFR speakers are created equal. There will be differences. There should be perhaps a bit less tweaking required from one to the next, as compared to 2 different guitar amps, but two different boxes with different speakers are exactly that...different. I would be utterly amazed if I plugged in the same patch to different FRFR set-ups and found them indistinguishable.
-
I have no idea what this magic "chip" is that you've purchased, but the problem may have nothing to do with the amp at all. I'd check the more likely explanations first: 1) Faulty guitar cable. 2) Faulty output jack on the guitar, or loose solder joint connected to it. Rule out one thing at a time...
-
You might just need a little more time to play around with it. Anything you run it through will require tweaking, be it an FRFR speaker or more traditional guitar rig. I wouldn't expect patches designed for use with a DT amp, or studio monitors to be instantly usable on something else. Even two different FRFR speakers aren't gonna give you identical tones.

I love this game of "Gotcha!" in which our society is perpetually engaged. Get's us nowhere, but oh how satisfying nonetheless. OK...so after we dethrone one shyster, then what? There are a billion others...like every ad agency in existence. If you don't like what he does, don't purchase whatever he's peddling, and don't watch the videos. Problem solved. Even the blithering idiots among us eventually shut up when they realize no one is paying attention. Rat him out to the YouTube Police if you like...he'll just post another video if the "offending" ones are removed. Freedom is fun, isn't it?

AES is as close as you're gonna get, assuming that it still shows up at the Javit's Center...last time I went was the late 90's, but that's where I heard of L6 for the first time. They were pimping the original POD Farm, as I recall.

Lol...and now begins the official debate on what "by the end of summer" means. Is it August 31st? Labor Day? The first day of school (if so, in what part of the country),the first day the local temp dips below 75? It's not hard to understand why nobody knows. There are a million variables, involving countless people, all doing different jobs. It'll get here when it gets here. Wanna cut down on the whining? Make the "official" release date 3 months later than your most conservative estimate. Then everybody will be pleasantly surprised at the "early" ship date. Of course, the inevitable result of this strategy would be the blaming of the first confirmed bug on the "rush to ship a product that wasn't ready"...choose your poison, lol. I don't envy your position...you guys can't win. ;)
-
Lol...well that leaves just 31 glorious days for everyone to speculate on. Place your bets! It's better odds than roulette! I'm gonna go with the 17th @ 11:18 AM PST.

No one knows with absolute certainty. This will not stop any number of people from professing to know, however...for any one of a thousand reasons..."inside" sources, "trusted" friends, relatives, or sales reps, or because they read it in tea leaves, or the Ouija board said so, or visions inspired by recreational pharmaceuticals, etc etc. The first batch of Variax Standards sat offshore because the guys running the port thought a strike would be fun. There are more reasons for a target release date to come and go with no product, than there are stars in the sky. When it shows up at your front door, or the showroom at your local Mega Huge-O-Riffic Music Emporium....then we'll all know they've been released.

If you play with any frequency, the frets will eventually need replacing anyway...you can grind and polish a couple of times to deal with fret-wear, but eventually they have to go...if you have no other issues with the guitar, you could always bite the bullet and have it re-fretted now with whatever size wire makes you comfortable. The money will eventually get spent anyway....

Acoustic Guitar through Line 6 Spider IV 75
cruisinon2 replied to Cmonkey53's topic in Line 6 Lounge
An electric guitar amp is never going to produce satisfactory results with an acoustic guitar. They have a very narrow frequency range...way too narrow for the range that an acoustic guitar produces. You can tweak setting for the rest of your life, and it's always gonna sound like a clean electric...electric guitar amps are just too mid-rangey, with a response that's anything but flat. You really need an FRFR speaker (PA, monitor, or specifically designed acoustic guitar amp) if you want any kind of usable acoustic tone. Straight to the PA is always gonna be the easiest option.- 1 reply

Just so we're all on the same page here. .. I'm neither an environmental apostle, nor a conservationist. Frankly, I could care less, and have never given so much as a moment's thought to my "carbon footprint". And the only agenda I have is not wasting money, be it a small amount, or a large one (especially when the beneficiary of my forced largess is some utility company's CEO and his annual 7-figure bonus)...which was made painfully obvious by the second half of the sentence you quoted. FWIW, I'm not a big fan of seat belt or helmet laws either...and as for the society-wide, relentless tobacco shaming, that's asinine too. We tried the same thing with booze nearly a century ago, and all that accomplished was making Canadian distillers rich, and giving Al Capone a job. Personally, my favorite part about all the tobacco BS, is that the same government that professes to care so much about my health, is still prefectly happy to collect the perpetually increasing tax revenue that tobacco products generate. I'm sure that it's financing the "greater good" and all, and not $20K toilet seats at some government facility...but I digress. So smoke if you got 'em, doesn't bother me. ;) -

If you were to leave the looper playing in a forest... ;) -
I'm not surprised that this happened...sunlight, even indirect, can mess with all kinds of sensors. My living room faces west and gets a lot of afternoon sun. If the shades are up and the sun hits either the cable box or the surround sound receiver, you can forget about trying to use the remote...nothing registers.

In the end it's all a game...trouble is, there will only be one winning team, now and forever. And we're not on it... -

No worries...it's just a discussion. I don't expect free electricity. Services cost money. However, we could all be paying pennies on the dollar if we made more use of nuclear power, as plenty of other industrialized nations do. But we've decided that coal is more fun...and the rea$on i$ obviou$. So be it. And the fact that desperate people would be willing to overpay for the return of a service that has become a necessity of modern life doesn't prove a blessed thing. Desperation makes people to do all sorts of things...often tending towards the ugly. I was out for 27 days when Sandy blew through here 3 years ago. Not fun (on the bright side, I discovered I can still read ;) ). Any prolonged disruption of the grid, and little old ladies will be beating each other to death over the last box of Cheerios at Stop-n-Shop. Don't think it ain't possible. Nor does it change the fact that I pay well above the national average here in the People's Republic of NY. What costs you 12 cents, costs me just under 20. And it's always a monopoly. I've never met anyone who had a choice of power companies. You either pay the local Lord, or you sit in the dark. -

Yes, thieves. Nobody wants to live without electricity...however, merely having a desire for something doesn't mean that one deserves to be robbed blind once a month. I'd shop around, but alas there's only one game in town. Haven't seen a door-to-door electricity salesman in these parts for years...;).
