  1. I could. But I mentioned in my post, I'd like to hear what others have come up with . I appreciate your effort to help; I already replaced an existing tone amp with the rectifier and it improved the sound. But I'm still hoping to hear what some of the superior tone-makers are coming up with.
  2. Immediately after the 2.1 Helix update, some forum members posted about great new high-gain sounds they were achieving with new amps and a new distortion pedal included in the update. I am more a download-from-customtone fan and modify the tones for my own equipment, rather than start from scratch and build my own tones. I'm surprised there are no new tones taking advantage of the new amps and effects. Anyone want to upload what they've been able to create with the new amps and distortion effect(s)? I would love, as I am sure others would too, to hear the new tones being achieved. Thanks!
  3. I'm glad you started this topic because I kind of feel the same way you do. While I heard great things about Glenn's patches, I too was underwhelmed. However, after investing in a helix I bit the bullet and purchased the Fremen pack. The tones were so amazing and so much better than what I could create or find on custom tone, I have to admit, it was wroth every penny as it made my helix sound so much better.
  4. Thank you for the clarification. I had heard that the dt50 was discontinued, but hopefully the head and dt25 will continue. I have both a 50 and 25 and love them both (just not the weight of the 50). It's exciting that line 6 is thinking and/or planning how to come up with a simple integration of helix to the dt series. And congratulations on the helix - it is an amazing product and has brought a lot of satisfaction to me and plenty of users!
  5. The document you describe exists and I have seen it. Sorry, I don't recall where on this site it is located, but hopefully someone else can point you in the right direction.
  6. I'm just a simple man, so I honestly do not understand your last reply completely. I would rather you design elegant solutions to solve these matters too, but in your first post, you stated that this was a complicated situation, and you hinted that it probably was not worth the company's time due to limited demand for integration. (limited demand I feel is not true, but that's a different story). That's when I mentioned how some on this forum found the ability to get a working solution rather easily without an engineering background or full-time employment with Line 6, while myself and others struggle to make the midi commands work. I suggested and still do that if your company can't or won't invest the time in this enhancement, that a simple one as I described would be better than nothing. I hope your posturing is not a sign that Line 6 has elected not to integrate the two systems at this time. PS - If DT amp resale prices dive, how does that look for line 6, and those who may be contemplating purchasing future tube amps from Line 6?
  7. Thanks for the reply and for sharing you and your company's philosophy. I'm having trouble believing your comment is factual: "POD HD500 <—> DT implementation was INSANE to develop and debug. And almost no one uses it." I am having trouble believing the "And Almost no one uses it" part. I hear there were lots of PODs sold over the years and the enthusiasm on the HD500 forum for the implementation of the POD at DT amps was off the charts. If you have some customers who are basically novices compared to your engineers, and the customers are able to program midi commands and have mapped out how each amp model should be programmed for the dt system, then your engineers should be able to come up with a relatively simple enhancement in the next firmware upgrade to help. We're not asking you to reinvent the wheel, just add some midi codes automatically to help those of us struggling to get the two units to work together. Your customers that have done this successfully, rave about the results. I may not be a business guru, but having a company's products continue to be outstanding and bend a little to accommodate existing high end amps is always a good thing. That's why customers stay loyal.
  8. Yes! And coming from the POD HD500 and 500X, it seems to me the Helix plugs in with much less tweaking than the POD's. The POD's never seemed to go into a pa system sounding good without lots of modifications. The Helix so far sounds great in a pa system, into the DT amp I described, and into my home set up with zero modifications needed! Although the combination of the dt amp and a POD was an amazing combination. I will be thrilled if and when Line 6 incorporates Helix integration into the DT series. Last, I hope my long entry before this one, is not taken to mean I am disappointed with any lack of answers or help in my situation. I am grateful for this forum and the help I always seem to get.
  9. Here's my recent experience with this forum and attempting to do DT integration. I initialized the DT amp properly as was recommended on this forum, and then I tried hooking up the L6-Link and a midi cable from the Helix to the amp. I received a lot of valuable guidance in this forum on how to set up each helix model amp, how to initialize the amp beforehand, and what midi commands to send each time I choose a tone through helix. It seems that as I sent more and more tones, I believe the dt amp was not flushing the system of prior tones and the sound got worse and worse. Although I posted a couple of additional entries into the specific forum for the exact midi commands needed, and asked why I saw in other topics, other midi commands that were used, I was never able to successfully get the two to integrate properly and no one provided examples based on the commands I used, what I was doing wrong. I put my dt amp back into the original, normal mode, and then hooked up the helix to the amp again using the l6 link cable and no more midi commands or cables. I realize that the link cable is sending a non digital signal but with the amp's drive turned all the way down, the combination of the two sound fantastic on each of every tone (clean, some overdrive, lots of distortion, etc.) And as a bonus, I don't have to worry about programming commands, or whether I made an error on my conversion charts (helix amp model to specific dt settings), and I can shape the overall desired sound using the amp's bass, mid, treble, presence and reverb easily on the fly based upon the room acoustics when I play out. Seems like a win-win situation for me.
  10. I finally got the helix wah in the early part of the chain to work exactly on my tones as I want. I believe the trick that finally worked is when modifying a tone, get the on/off wah to start exactly as you like, then make sure the sound is perfect and then save the tone. (I'm not talking about snapshots but say, the default snapshot 1 each time) . Now with the wah engaged or not engaged at time of starting the tone, I can avoid using a stand along wah which solves half of my challanges. Next I will work on the gain that can be used in Helix and see if perhaps I was programming changes and then saving them on gain which may have changed the sound I was trying to set up. Thanks!
  11. any idea why I clear out all the controller assignments, make a volume boost, assign it to fs2, save, then jump around to new tones, comeback, and the fs2 will either say (multi) and/'or no longer work or change the loudness. This is maddening! Thanks
  12. thanks for the suggestion! I had heard that the dt can have multiple voices, so if I change tones on the fly and have midi commands for each tone, how do I flush out (or remove the existing tone in the amp, if say, if the new tone to use contains a different class and a different I, II, III, or IV setting?
  13. I think you are 100% correct, I just hate having wires everywhere, and am hoping someone can provide an answer as to why the gain is not working earlier in the chain (with no compression effects being used). thanks!
  14. What you are saying makes sense, but any idea why putting the boost earlier in the chain makes the boost ineffective? There are no compression effects in the chain, yet something is limiting the jump in volume?
  15. I had a hard time getting the helix to make volume boosts the way I wanted in each of the tones I use so I built a small pedal-board with a wah pedal that automatically shuts off when not in use, and a gain pedal. using the send/return jacks on the helix, I hooked up my small peddle board. when I do the send/return towards the start of my path, the wah sounds great, but the gain basically has no change when I click it on. when I do the send/return toward the end of the path, the wah sounds too harsh, and the gain function works great. It seems that when I shut off every single effect in the path, and place the gain before the amp, when the signal goes through the amp and cabinet, the gain no longer functions (I believe the amp and cab are the only device left on in the chain). no matter which amps or cabs I use, I seem to have this problem. The gain pedal works great after the amp and cab, but the wah sounds too harsh. is there a setting inside the amp/cab section that limits the volume? any suggestions? thanks
  16. Every Saturday I download the highly rated helix customtones that have been uploaded during the last 7 days, try them out, and see which ones are keepers. Just a head's up, this weeks batch are exceptional! 4D Love of God is truly amazing and quite a few others are terrific too. This makes up for a very frustrating week as I spent way too much time trying to get helix to work with my dt50 amp using midi with little success. All this time spent without success, and not practicing guitar because of time spent with the helix modifications is especially frustrating. I tried to create a lead solo boost and assign it to footswitch 2 on many of my tones, yet time and time again, the settings would change in the volume, other seeing changed too, and the footswitch assignment often did not work as expected. Working in a wah proved troublesome too. Finally, after spending over $1,300 on a second helix so I could use with my band, it was just easier to make a small peddle board with a dedicated wah and real boost pedal. Of course that lead to issues too, as the compressors found in many of the tones I use interfered with the usefulness of the boost. Finally, using the effects loop, and putting the boost through the effects loop at the end of the path seemed to finally help. At least the cusomtones was a nice way to end the day.
  17. I may try that, it's a good, idea, it's just I am so close to getting helix and the dt amp to integrate as well has the pod hd500x works with the dt technology. I would like to see if I can get the midi commands to work. thanks
  18. Radatats, Can you please look at my last post above this one, I feel so close yet something is wrong. Perhaps I am getting multiple voices and amps and I change tones? Do I need to flush out the last tone from the amp before loading new ones? Can you please see my last post and let me know if I am doing something wrong? Thanks!
  19. I tried this weekend to program the helix to a dt 25 and it was a complete failure. It sounded great for a little while but then got awful. Poking around the internet, I believe the DT amps can hold up to 8 model amps at the same time so I wonder if the various tones I sent to the dt blended together to make a sonic mess. So forgive my ignorance and poor ability to understand this whole process, but can we please start from the beginning? From what I understand, I need to send four midi commands to the dt amp to change some settings such as shutting off the reverb, amps and cabs. so I create a tone that is run once with the commands 122, 0 (I am not sure if any of the 4 possible values are vital here so I went with a zero value. then 122, 4 (you mentioned 4-7, so again not sure if putting a 4 is correct or not correct. then 12,0 and finally 36,0 Now poking around other forums, I see someone also did: 122,0 11,0 71,0 82,0 37,0 will adding some of these commands help? now, let's say I want to use the US Double Nrm (AB topology = I so I sent this command when using a tone that wants to use that amp. 73,65 77,0 75,65 that's all I believe I needed. now I am wondering if i need to add commands before these three commands to wipe out any other amp models that could still be in the dt amp. any thoughts as to why my tones sound unusable as I switch tones (after painstakingly putting in the class and topology for each tone? thanks
  20. I understand the first 4 commands will help to set up the dt amp to work with the Helix. I also see that there is a dt reset procedure that you can manually perform on the amp to return it to it's native state. Can you help me with the (4) commands that can be set up in a helix tone that when used will return the amp back to it's original set up so I don't have to reset the amp manually? thanks!
  21. Well you just proved to me I am not going crazy. I don't believe I have ever had this problem before, until working with a specific tone that caused me to create this post. If seems to me, the people who designed the pod could have made this simpler, who would want to lock the wah in a single position and then not be able to access it? Thanks for explaining this!
  22. One of the two bugs I see often is when I make a change in the edit program and the highlighted tone become italicized and has the asterisk. I save the tone often by sending to the pod. Ideally you want to send the modified tone back to the pod as a single tone "send". This often becomes useless as the asterisk and italic type will still show as being modified. So then I have to send the entire set list to the pod for it to register the change and that setlist send is time consuming. Here's the second bug: It's critical that all my tones have the same volume so that when I play with the band each song has the proper volume mix with the other band members. I find that many times when editing, the volume of the tone I am working on becomes lower through the amp, and then I am not sure if that's my new tone that's way too low or a temporary bug. The only way to know for sure is to reboot the pod and reload the entire system into editor, or switch tones on the pod and then return to the tone in question. So what should take an instant seems to take a heck of a lot longer to finish modifying tones due to all the saves, and all the restores. My drivers and software all all current as per Monkey. This problem has been compounded recently by me trying to add about a 10db increase in volume in many of my tones and assigning them to a specific foot switch for my soloing (I don't think the problems have anything to do with the foot switch assignment). So it has become very time consuming and a headache to make sure that every tone in my arsenal is around the same volume and every volume boost is a similar volume match. Combined with the weirdness of the edit program, it's a challenge when the volumes drop off when using the edit program to modify tones. Eventually when everything seems to be perfect and I just use the pod to a dt amp, the pod works fine.
  23. It must be nice to use the pod directly if it reduces the flaws and handshaking challenges of the editor. The editor is nice , but like you said there are some flaws (and dare I say bugs) in the editor. I find I have to constantly change tones and then switch back to the tone I am working on, or reboot the pod to determine the real sound that has been created and modified on a tone.
  24. I think I finally understand this matter now. It seems the midi commands you provided may be repetitive but I will follow exactly as you suggested. I mean repetitive because if I understand correctly, you are selecting the class and topology twice in the script. I guess I should leave it along and follow your script 100%? Last, the excellent pdf provided does not mention Triode or Pentode options. Any thoughts on how to choose the best match for this option within each amp and tone selection? Thanks!
  25. This is exactly what I was hoping for! Thanks so much!
