EDITEDHi,
I think you misunderstand - what is shown in my screenshot is a single path split into path 1A and 1B right at the start, and panned A 100% Left and B 100% Right. Then both paths are identical to the point where they exit the unit on 1/4” Output Left and Right. You can ignore the other path, don’t be distracted by that - It maybe that I have added too many blocks, I forgot that you are limited to 9 blocks, this had 12 - Doh!.
It’s very simple - the 7 cable method is the same as 4CM but with a duplicate path B. Use only Mono FX Loop 1 (to Marshall) in one path and Mono FX Loop 2 (to Rectifier) on the other. All the other blocks in my example can be substituted for what ever effects you want to use - just note that drives and distortion are ideally placed before the send, and any time based effects after the return. The only other thing I did in the example was assign foot switches to turn the effects on and off and named them in the scribble strips.
Now, hook up your HXFX to your computer, open HX Edit and recreate the FX LOOPS and split exactly as shown in my example screenshot. It should take less than 5 minutes and you should be good to go. Don’t overthink this! Then when you know it communicate with your amps, add whatever FX you like to the blocks you have left.
If it doesn’t work after creating this patch, then I have nothing left to offer, it is beyond human assistance. You may need an exorcism to clear the demons out of your device.
Hope this helps/makes sense.
Oh, damn it, try this - it only contains the split, FX loops and outputs - cannot make it anymore simple.
How did you get 2 paths to the output? All I see is a merge block.
This should be the answer and I can't thank you enough for your time and consideration.

Hi,Nope, not that much in it, but because I used HX Edit connected to my Helix, it seems that it includes the second DSP path even though there is nothing on it. I considered doing the preset using Helix Native, but that cannot handle the physical Send/Return options. Oh, hum!
Anyhow, it is extremely simple- see attached pic below. The guitar in is split into Path 1A and Path 1B, and these are panned 100% Left and Right. Each patch contains identical blocks - wah, distortion, FX Loop, delay and reverb. each path is sent to the 1/4” jack outputs, again panned Left and Right. If this doesn’t work, I’m not sure what to suggest, other than to check that you can get a signal path, split Left and right to pass through the HXFX and out of the L/R 1/4” jacks, with absolutely nothing in the HX paths. Then add various blocks, one by one, until you figure out where it fails.
Hope this helps/makes sense.
EDIT:
I tried downloading the files you had attached, but they are empty.php files. When they are uploaded correctly, they should show the file name of the preset with the .hlx extension.
I think the issue is the HXFX can't have 2 separate paths? At least as far as I can tell. Not enough DSP?
I can only Split or Merge paths.

Follow on from previous post:- Re no patch available.
I don't own a HXFX, but I have owned a Helix floor from way back in 2015 and use it almost daily. I got into the studio about an hour ago and powered it up, and went straight to the Templates section of the the setlists - Well, waddayano, there is both a 4 Cable and & Cable template provided by Line 6 that is in the Factory Presets. Don't know if theses included in the HXFX factory stuff but It might be worth checking.
Anyhow, I decided that for the sake of 5 minutes in HX Edit, I would knock out a 7CM patch for you to load up and check out.
See how far you can get with this.
7-CM HXFX-TEST.hlx 24.25 kB · 1 download
Hope this helps/makes sense.
The patch won’t load, too big I assume. I really appreciate your help and all that took time to reply.
it’s a simple patch per the post I attached. Just loop 1 and 2 assigned to the same switch. One is on while the other is off.
I’ve also tried splitting them and using the A/B split panned one way or the other and the same with the merge. And I’ve tried the stereo loop as well with a pan.

I think more important than us explaining to you what needs to be done I think it is far more prudent for you to explain to us what you have actually done. You said you followed the 7CM connections to the letter but I think I would prefer to see (by way of pictures) what those connections actually are, just as confirmation. Sometimes in the past there have been misunderstandings and miscommunications and pictures help to eliminate that from happening. The next thing would be for you to upload your preset here to this thread because if you have in fact correctly connected everything then the problem could very well be in the configuration of the preset.
It’s set up as prescribed. Both sends into front of each amp properly. Amp sends into the hxfx returns and both outs (L and R) into the amp returns.

Hi,If you require a picture, then you should check out the HX Effects Owner’s Manual > Page 10 which features a diagram that you can follow for both 4 & 7 Cable Method.
Hope this helps/makes sense.
I’m set up exactly that way. Just tried again for another hour fiddling with blocks and splits and pans but still hearing the 2nd amp when the only loop I have available is the 1st amp.
Can’t figure it out.
I appreciate your help. I have seen everything on line and tried everything.
I can’t believe no one knows how to do this properly or that there’s no patch available.
-
Ok, it’s been a month of struggling to make this work properly. This thread isn’t helping.
I simply get “bleeding” into the other amp. If Fx loop 1 in on, or even if I only have one loop in the signal chain, I still hear the other amp.
How come I can’t get it to work? I’ve tried Fx stereo blocks with a pan on my exp, still hear the other amp. Just one Fx loop and still hear the other amp. separate send and receive blocks, same results. I’ve tried splitting the chain too. A/B and Y…nope
Customtone has no 7CM HX Effects patches.
im thinking of ditching the whole experiment. It’s been a struggle.

Set up the HX Effects just like in 4CM, but use both Sends and Returns (one for each pre-amp), and connect the HX Effect's main outputs to each amps Return.
If you want to use the pre-amps in parallel, just insert a stereo FX Loop block.
If you want to alternate which pre-amp to use, add two mono S/R blocks, both FX Loop 1 block and FX Loop 2 block. Set one of them on and the other bypassed. Then assign them to same switch. Now you can toggle between the two pre-amps.
For a more complex setup where you want to add separate effects in front of each pre-amp, you should split the signal, add two mono S/R blocks to each path. If you make the split A/B, you'll be able to assign a switch to select which pre-amp is in use. If you make the split Y, and assign an expression pedal to control the A level and B level of the paths, and you'll be able to smoothly mix between the pre-amp outputs. (See Configuring Split Block Options p 31 for more ideas.)
Adding separate send and return blocks gives you even more flexibility, but they also add complexity. The FX Loop blocks are way easier to understand.
Why doesn’t this work? I get bleeding between the amps.

Looking for advice on running HX Effects through 2 amps. One has an FX loop and the other doesn’t.
Can I do left to the front of amp 1 and right through the loop of amp 2?Anyone working with a similar setup?
-
Just trying to understand how to set up my HX Effects as an A B Y into 2 channels of an AC 30 with NO FX Loop OR a foot switch to change channels.
Basically out of HX Effects into the front of 2 amps. Also want to be able to use 1, 2 or both channels.
Help if you can.
I assume you can use the send 1/2 to each amp? Or the L R outputs? Or the EXP?
4 Cable Method is not an option.

We should be able to cut from input to output and paste in a different patch. This would be very helpful so the top signal chain could be one patch and the bottom another.

Get some acoustic guitar IR that are out there, some for free, but the best for a very small price from 3 Sigma.
Those, plus some comp/eq and maybe the Studio Tube Pre, are way better than any of the acoustic effects they've had in anything before... ever...
Hey, can't I just run the 1/4" out into the back of the L2t?
-
I like the way the piezo sounds through the acoustic modeler on my L2t. I would like to add some effects in this path. Is it possible to run a piezo guitar through the helix to the BACK of my L2t and us the on board effects?

Yeah, I have those, but they don't sound authentic. If I A/B back and forth the sound of the L2t modeler is much better than any IR including Sigma etc... Seems like a simple fix but nothing is easy, I know.
Thanks Peter for getting back so quickly.

We should be able to access the acoustic input jack and parameters on the back of a L2t via the Helix (Piezo guitar or accoustic). This way we can run Helix effects with the acoustic

Hmm, that is weird. And this only happens when the H9 is connected? If so, I assume you have tried alternative cables for the H9. It almost sounds like it is shorting out during the auto-calibration or in some way disrupting normal operation of the Editor. Is everything working normally when the H9 is not connected? It might be a good idea to contact L6 support as jbuhajla suggested. Good luck getting this straightened out.
Happen even when it's not connected. It's just a coincidence that it started then. I was told to reboot my laptop in someway by another user forum. Some ctrl option P R thing. Maybe that will work. could be a laptop thing and not a Helix thing
-
Keeps shutting down. Yes I have loaded and reloaded and the software is up to date...yada, yada, yada.
-
The first two things I would check are if the Editor version matches the firmware and I would probably do a global reset of the Helix if you are able to get a good backup first.
Yeah, none of that works. Started when I added a H9. Crashes every time I adjust a controller for a pedal. every time I restart i need to unplug and plug in the H9 to get it recognized.
-
I think we need to take a step back, are you just wanting to change the program on the H9 when you change patch on the Helix?
Craig
"I simply want to have a H9 preset load into a footswitch just like any other effect. In this photo I have the FX loop that holds the H9, MIDI in is set to CC98 but it doesn't load CC98. In fact it doesn't load or change anything on the H9."
The way you've got it set up, an external MIDI controller can be used to bypass the Helix effects loop by sending CC#98 to the Helix. To do that, just assign a Helix footswitch to bypass the effects loop. But that won't get you what you're after.
The way this works is that the H9 AUDIO IN/OUT is in the effects loop, and a MIDI cable is connected between the Helix and the H9. When you select the Helix preset with a PC# (NOT CC#!) assigned to an Instant Message (lightning bolt in Command Center) set to the same MIDI channel that the H9 is set to receive on, that PC# is sent over the MIDI cable to the H9, selecting the corresponding H9 preset. The AUDIO signal passes thru the Helix Effects Send to the H9, is processed by the specified H9 preset, then returns to the Helix thru the Effects Return. The H9 preset doesn't load into the footswitch, the footswitch (Helix preset selection with Instant Message) just tells the H9 what H9 preset to use to process the AUDIO passing thru it from/to the Helix effects loop.
If you set it up per my previous directions, the Helix, on preset selection, will send the PC# you specified, on the channel that the H9 is configured to receive on. It will also send CC#61 which as far as I can tell, when received by the Helix stops the looper. No idea why it would SEND that, but it doesn't affect what you're trying to do.
If all is as above and it's still not working, you should verify that the Helix is sending the proper messages with a MIDI Monitor such as MIDIOX (if you're using Windows, I forget what it's called in MAC world). Assuming that you're using standard 5pin MIDI cables to connect the H9 to the Helix, you'll need to be sure that the Helix is set up in Global to send MIDI over USB (connect Helix USB to computer to use the MIDI Monitor).
I hope that's all coherent and understandable, it's late, time for me to sleep. Get back to me if it's nstill not clear.
OK, got it working. The patches won't change if the USB is plugged in...for some reason. You were a big help, thanks.

Re-configuring my pedal board now. Are you putting you Wah's in front of the Helix or in the effects loop? I have a true bypass Clyde Deluxe and assume in front of the Helix is the easiest and probably the place it should be.
-
My helix editor crashes every time I try and change any effect parameters.

I literally just tried this out on a Helix patch one minute ago, and this wah trick is super sweet, thanks Spikey!!
And yes, it does 'fade out' the mix of the wah effect as the pedal travels towards the heel, so you can lose some of that weird low end lwo mid frequency muddy flutter that the wah would normally do in that position. For me, I never like that low end of the wah travel anyway, so this is perfect; since I prefer it for high and upper/central mid effect; and it sure makes using the wah easier on the fly!
I think the way to go would be test these setting with a few of your 'go to' wah models, and see how it impacts them, as opposed to without. Make a duplicate wah block, and set one to just use the 'regular' settings, and the other to use these settings.
I've got this on the Chrome custom, sounds fantastic!
Can you guys post on customtone? I am trying to accomplish the heel down thing right now and it doesn't come easy to me.

Sorry but none of this is working. I can't figure it out. I appreciate you all trying.

Why is this so easy for you and difficult for me :)
It wont let me do that? Any idea why?
