I just tested this because I couldn't remember for sure. WAH is assigned by default to EXP1 with Toe Switch enabled. VOLUME is assigned by default to EXP2 with Toe Switch enabled

If ONLY the VOLUME Block is assigned, then the Toe Switch toggles the VOLUME Block ON/OFF. When toggled OFF, volume defaults to 100%.

If VOLUME AND WAH are assigned, the Toe Switch toggles between WAH and VOLUME active states, but the VOLUME defaults to 100% when the WAH is active.

Yes, confusing, which is why I always forget if I haven'y been creating presets in a while. To make it more confusing, it's possible to wind up with the Toe Switch functional, but the Expression pedal inactive. In which case, clear both blocks and start over!

    That's correct.

I remember that the TOE Switch had to be pressed very hard the first time when my Helix was new.

So I guess he has not noticed the Toe switch yet.

  2. The freeware "USBDeview" is good for debugging such things.

First I would diconnect all other USB-devices. Then turn off the Helix and close/uninstall all Line6 Helix software/drivers and restart the computer.

Then use USBdeview and uninstlall all unneeded drivers (usb sticks e.g., ...maybe there are still old line6 drivers)

Restart and install HXEdit2.8 again. Start the Helix and try to start the update.

(This helped me some time ago, when my USB port did not recognize some drives. I don't know if it also works with the Helix problem.)

  3. For all who still have problems:

I don't know if it helps and only if you have tried all other steps befor:

First I would uninstall all line6 software/drivers. Restart your computer.

There is a tool called "USBdeview"

Windows saves all ever connected USB devices, this sometimes can cause problems with new devices.

Maybe there are still old Helix or USB drivers there, that block something.

If you find something, uninstall it(...at your own risk). But be careful here, don't remove still needed drivers / only remove line6Helix or unneeded(be sure!) USB-device drivers!

Then restart your computer. Install HXEdit2.8( check all the boxes and just let it install all the software and drivers), turn on the Helix and pray you can connect.

  4. I don't know if it helps and only if you have tried all other steps befor:

First I would uninstall all line6 software/drivers. Restart your computer.

Then look for non present devices in the Windows Device Manager

    https://www.thewindowsclub.com/show-non-present-devices-windows

...or you can use a tool - "USBdeview" for example to check your USB drivers

Windows saves all ever connected USB devices, this sometimes can cause problems with new devices.

Maybe there are still old Helix or USB drivers there, that block something.

If you find something, remove it(...at your own risk). But be careful here, don't remove still needed drivers / only remove line6Helix or unneeded(be sure!) USB-device drivers!

Really getting nervous.  I uninstalled al Line 6 programs, drivers, etc. and re-installed.  Updater still shows no devices to select.

Went to a different computer, installed HX Edit 2.8 and Updater 1.17.  Same thing.

I'm sorry to hear that it does not work even with a different computer.

...sounds silly maybe, but do you have another computer or a mac (maybe you just have bad luck with your systems)?

Did you install HX Edit 2.8 with all drivers selected?

(It's not necessary to install the updater separately)

...sorry if you've already tried this

I got the expected "Boot Failure. Entered Update Mode!"  message halfway through the 2.80 Firmware update on my Helix LT.   I pressed OK on the Updater, and nothing seems to be happening.  It's been stuck at 50% and the Boot Failure message for about 45 minutes now.

I was watching Glenn Deluane's video on the 2.80 update, and his seems to get passed the Boot Failure message and back to "Updating Helix Firmware" pretty quickly.

  7. My "old" notebook has a switchable graphics card (AMD+Intel). I can only start HX Edit it with the AMD card enabled.

The "low energy" Intel card is not supported.

....I don't know if that helps someone

    how to download my purchase?
    Product activation error 8727

You purchased a preset pack or something? I think the code means the product has been already activated.

You can download your activated preset packs here: My Account>Hardware&Software>Helix Marketplace

  9. Should work with the same username and password.

Maybe your firewall/anti-virus program blocked the installer?

I would try a password reset if you still have problems

Updating from 2.71 to 2.8 and followed update instructions to the letter, and it has now been frozen on the "Boot Failure" screen for 5 hours. Ive tried to reset the unit and restart the update but now the updater doesn't recognize any devices.

Does anyone know how to reset the Helix so I can re start the updater? (Ive already tried the standard the power up while holding down switch 7+8)

    Thanks

" After putting your Helix in update mode restart the Updater program and restart the v2,80 update. "

If that does not work, reinstall HXEdit2.8(incl. all drivers)

    SAME Problem With P

    PLS HELP ME

Have you tried to uninstall and reinstall Helix2.8Edit an all included drivers?

(Shut down the Helix and the updater befor)

...pressing footswitch 6+12 while switching the Helix on?

...try annother USB-port, don't use a hub (...I think you know that, just to be sure)

If nothing helps, the best way is to try the installation with annother computer.

I will just echo my experience that I followed the upgrade steps (for my Helix floor) and when the "Boot Failure. Entered Update Mode!" showed I clicked on the OK that appeared but the upgrade process would not continue. I waited for at least 30 minutes. After trying all the USB ports and looking on the forums for help, the Solution for me was to re-install Helix Edit 2.8.  I don't know why but after doing that then the updater was able to complete the update.

Same for me. I guess that not all drivers were updated correctly during the first Helix Edit 2.8 installation (don't know why). And then the new "Core" firmware could not connect to complete the update.

  13. The firmware release instructions were clear and I think the most people read the note: “Boot Failure. Entered Update Mode!” THIS IS NORMAL. Breathe deep, everything is fine" and klick OK.

The problem was, that there were many where the update froze forever at this point(me too).

But now it works for most people and we have a great update!

I'm having major issues with the floorboard as well with the boot failure. Update mode! I followed everything the updator directions said, and now it's been stuck for around 5 hours with a :-3 in the top left corner with the boot failure message, along with the updator being black saying no device connected. I'm afraid to turn it off because it said not to, but I also don't want to leave it on all night. Any suggestions? I'd really be devastated if I can't use my Helix anymore.

...many here had the same problem

If the update process stucks (...more than 30 minutes), turn off the Heilx and shut down the Update program. Then reinstall Helix2.8Edit(including the drivers) and start the update again. That should work.

Luckily you can not destroy the Helix with an update (...I think) because it has an built-in update mode, which starts when an update has failed(maybe you have to use buttom combo 6+12).

Probably not but it does no harm.

Most people could just restart the update process after shut down the Helix and the updater.

This did not work for me, because the updater could not connect to the Helix anymore.

I saw, that an error occurred in the Windows device manager, so I reinstalled the drivers/HelixEdit

    and the problem was solved.

...maybe not all drivers were updated correctly during the first HelixEdit installation

Seems to be happening to quite a few people from what I'm seeing on the forums. I've never had any issues in the past but this update has mine pretty much locked up. Mine only made it to about 12% before I got an error to restart the helix to proceed. Tried that about 5 times, same result. Figured I would just restore it back to previous version but now it doesn't even recognize the unit. Tried factory reset by holding down buttons 7 & 8 on start up and its still stuck in boot failure. Opened up a ticket so I'll wait to hear back for direction. Oh well, still have my faithful amp and pedalboard so I ain't going to lose sleep over it.

Have you tried to reinstall the drivers/HelixEdit2.8?

(Look in the Windows Device Manager, if there is a problem)
