  1. Hi to all,

yesterday Helix Native came out. I installed it on my iMac and during the activation came an error. Authorized computers 0, but lifetime activations limit reached. In my profile at L6 are all computers listed as deactivated. Support ticket is allready opened. Is this a bug or just simply my fault by reinstalling Windows a few times?

    Greetings

And some of those “friends” have flappy lips!

    Oh yeah!

@Digital_Igloo Don’t feel tied the knot. Please don‘t justify. It‘s all up to you and the regulations of L6 how much and if we get infos.

Please guys and girls, stay focused and let L6 do their work. Or do you like a release with bugs? Every week an update just to bring the software further step by step.

Other companies use customers as testers. I am glad L6 does not!

Are you talking about 2.90, which has never been officially announced? We threw a party at NAMM with a sneak peek for friends only and they talked about it publicly... elsewhere..”

Sorry, but it seems that, according to DI,  v2.9 is not an official thing.

Yeah, that’s the thing. Never officially announced. I am glad to read the programming efforts even if it‘s not announced yet. Maybe a 2.90 will not come because of problem. Maybe instead 2.91 or 2.92 or whatever. Only L6 knows ;-)

Better to wait until it‘s ready instead of hunting a release date or even an official announcement. ;-)

  4. @Digital_Igloo Thanks for all the infos so far. There are users here who like to read any info about 2.9 and they are glad about the info. Some users want more. Well I understand them but please you DON‘T have to justify your work or how and when the release will be. Don‘t let them take you to this point.

Helix works fine as it is! I bet

many users here (me too by the way) don‘t use every single function or even know any single function. For god’s sake let L6 do their work!

No, I'm really not upset. I enjoy Helix as it is.

    Same for me :-)

The silence will not change. It took a while for me to accept. You can write whatever you want. L6 reads it for sure but don’t await any reaction as long as you stay on a normal level. I guess we will get more info as soon as bugs are getting less and they are close to release. Sure „soon“ is a very wide time gap and depends on how you see it.

And of course we would have enough time to test it currently. Corona will give us sadly a bit more work free weeks.

  6. @spikey: Can you remember a year ago when I was going nuts because of the time lag and the silence? ;-)

You were able to argument good and bring me down again. THIS year you are in the same situation than I were.

Take it cool. Line6 is working on the update and every day we are getting closer to the release. We will not get more usefull infos until it's very close to be bug free.

You can pee a rope... you can lollipop a circle... or however you name it. Do you think L6 will work faster because of your anger? NO :-)

Do you think you will get more infos because of your writing? NO :-)

cbrillow,... correct. Anything below v2.00 will not work with Workbench HD, so the original Workbench

would have to be used. There is no compatibility or portability between the between the two versions.

Thanks for the info... I am asking because I had no interface for firmware installation. It came not with my used bought jtv-59.

With the helix connected to the pc I was able to play with the sounds but no reset or downgrade and upgrade. Reset is not possible without installing the firmware. It‘s changed since 2.0. I guess the  interface should arrive the next days. Let‘s see how it works out for me. ;-)

  8. Hi to all,

just a question: Is it sensefull to downgrade the firmware to 1.9 or below?

For the sound, as it seems, yes BUT will it be still compatible with the Workbench HD and the Helix in that way as it is now?

Watching a few youtube videos made me curious about the sounding. It seems the HD firmware sounds different. Not bad at all but that different that it‘s worth a try.

    Regards

PS: If the answer is yes, what version should I choose?

If 2.80 just so happens to drop next Wednesday or Thursday, I can assure you 100% the timing would just be a coincidence. We want this stupid thing out more than any of you and if anyone in marketing were to suggest we wait to align it with Summer NAMM, their heads would be bitten clean off.

We're not above waiting for trade show announcements to release gear (or even other firmware updates, if they're close), but in 2.80's case, it will be out the very minute QA puts their stamp of approval on it.

Man, now I hope it's not Wednesday, for this reason alone. :(

    Thanks for the info :-)

Let‘s pray that their heads will stay where they should stay :-)

  10. To all interested users: If you are Helix user and registered allready your device.

Helix Native is good priced now. $99 is good BUT summer sale with $30 off makes it really interesting. For me it was time to catch it ;-)

$83 (€74) incl. taxes is perfect! Instead of 99 or more (if you have no helix registered)

  11. Next topic, back to the roots: Line6 staff, you have the ball in your hands. Any news what you are allowed and willing to give about the status or effort or however you call it?

Now where the heck is the 2.8 update?????

I gave up asking... we have to accept, that the programmers just have no time or/and are not allowed to give a little info. As DI wrote it‘s much of code to rewrite for the new core. The missing PR makes it surely not easier. Info is given volunteerly. ;-)

I guess the more we asking, the later it will come. IF this is a reason I have to say sorry because my mouth was way too wide open.

BUT...if I'm playing  Comfortably Numb,  it's so iconic that yes, I do want to sound and play just like him. That would be why I shoot for that in that situation. I have my own style and sounds but I don't want to use those when I play a Pink Floyd song.

Ok that‘s then some kind of tribute I guess.

Well you have a good work to do (or allready did) to sound like David. All the nuances of his playing... oh man...

Great musicians those who are still alive and those who sadly died. It‘s not „my“ music but who cares? The masterminds behind the music are amazing!!

The correct answer is "Yes they will, if they use a helix with the 2.8 firmware update!"

You like to copy someone‘s sound? „I like to sound like someone but I can’t play like him“ It‘s a live task that will never end. The same on guitar playing or finding „your“ sound. Develop you own style with the techniques of the big ones ;-)

Line 6 did EXTENSIVE research and found that pros (their target market for HX products) wanted computer editing WAY more than a tablet.

    They made the right call.

Maybe some people don‘t agree but the choice is better indeed.

Excuse me, but that is not showing how to edit a preset. What you have there is MIDI control. Different thing.

    ...and this!
Well it is very slick, but not exactly what people are talking about when asking for HX Edit to be available on a Tablet or iPad.
What's happening in this example is the iPad is wirelessly accessing an instance of HX Edit which is running on a regular desktop/laptop Mac and that is connected to Helix via USB.
It's not the same a being able to control the Helix unit directly from an iPad or Tablet, it's similar to Logic Remote which when run on and iPad or iPhone allows access certain functions of Logic Pro X running on a Mac.

The guy who posted the vid even states:

"Would you like to use your iPad for wireless editing of your Helix parameters and presets?
Let me show you how to do it.
All it takes is to install the Splashtop streamer application on the computer attached to your Helix
and install the Splashtop client app on your iPad and you're ready to go!"

    Hope that makes sense!

The idea itself is not bad so far but a much easier way if a tablet could communicate directly with the helix. Possible via bluetooth or wlan. None if them is located in the helix. Maybe L6 plans some kind of additional dongle for helix to make it possible? I dont know if it’s possible in the software to activate and communicate with such a dongle.

More in the digital era where most of the music is rehashed. If you think ACDC would have built their legacy on Mesa Boogie amplifiers just the same way they did using marshalls, i would have to disagree with that.

I partly disagree as well.... the best gear makes you not the best player. If you have a good gear (e.g. Helix) you can get a very good sound or let‘s say „your“ sound without buying amps, cabs, effects.

Play around with settings, watching youtube tutorials brings you a big step further.

Edit: What if the amp quits working?

With a good helix setlist you can plug it direct into the PA ;-)

I do it always this way. An IR of my cabinet and the same patches as with amp. It‘s not the same sound but close ;-)

I think this dream needs to die... Line 6 simply isn’t going to give weekly updates on the progress of software development. Honestly, no company, other than perhaps a small mom and pop operation, is going to do that sort thing. I’m a beta tester and under NDA with them, and I don’t get these sorts of updates. I don’t expect them, either. I just know they’re working on it, and it will be ready when it’s ready.

Oh man... well then finally some intelligent and sadly true words as it seems :-(

Please L6 if possible don‘t tease us next time not that long. If it gets not ready in the time period, could you then inform the users. Thank you! :-)
