  1. That sounds like just the thing I´m after! What amp model are you using to get that? Where du you put the tube comp in the signal? You don´t get problem with overdriving fx placed after the comp with that level?
  2. Thank you, but WOW... You don´t push the amp block sim like grazy with the level up to 30? :O I also have the tube comp set at thresh: 50% but the volume al the way down to 0%.
  3. Thanks. I now that it all depends on the bass, strings, player, etc. I´m more looking for general guidelines since the Pod HD clearly has more info about how to set it up with guitar than bass. I tend to get option paralysis with all the parameters... :)
  4. Thank you, I never thought of it that way. It makes sense. But wouldn´t that mean that I should get the same results when placing the tube comp as the first block, in relation to after a few blocks that are turned off (still in front of amp model)? I find that this is not the case.
  5. Thank you got it! And is it just me or does the compressor "compress more" when placed after some fx blocks compared to being the first one?
  6. Hi! Anyone using the tube comp (or other model) with bass? What settings are you using and where to you place it in the signal? I´ve been using it for a while as the first block at threshold 42 % and volume at 0 %. At first i thought it sounded really good like this (low volume with headphones) but as I turn the volume up i noticed that it sounds just "wrong" and way to compressed + it is boosting the volume a bit to much. Now I have a hard time getting good settings out of the tube comp, and I think I do need a comp because it´s seems like it´s at least making something better with the tone when turned on. I just want some light compression for my active bass. I also just got and Sansamp GT2 pedal (btw awesome for bass!) and although it sounds the best in front of the Pod, I had to put it in the fx loop since it made the pitch glide/whammy useless. I think it´s the tube comp making the GT2 not sounding good by compressing and/or boosting the signal to much before hitting it. Placing the comp after the pitch and fx loop seem to have a bigger (and worse) inpact on the tone compared having it first, although this might also be me setting it "wrong". Any sugestions about how to set it up? On a side note, since taking the step from dual amp to single amps, I´ve noticed that the signal is louder when using the tuner compared to the actual patch. Any ideas?
  7. No worries! To bad there's only 3 amp models with the 500x bass pack :/
  8. What Pod unit are you refering to? Nothing like that in my 500 x!
  9. I finaly think i solved it! The signal from the bass is really hot so as some of you mentioned i had to change the input to guitar/variax and i did. However the problem was still there especially when i turned of comp (second in chain). When using both amps togher on at the same time, the clipping somehow went away, and then i realised that i had the noise gate (first in chain) set up to only engage when the second distorted amp model went on. The second input to variax aparently mean you have to have a mono summing fx before the split. When it went of togheter with the second amp, the first one still got a hot signal and it clipped... Im stupid and The Pod HDs internal wireing is confusing to say the least! :-)
  10. I now know what the problem is! If I make an completely empty patch just turning up the Mixer i get no clipping. I even could raise my pickup. When engaging just the Cougar (same settings) before the mixer I get no clipping unless i boost the bass's preamp. HOWEVER when i but in another amp block the clipping comes back! It doesn't matter if the other amp block is engaged or not i get clipping. It doesn't matter which input settings i use or how i set the mixer, I get that damn clipping! This must be a sign of a faulty unit?!
  11. Thank you and i will try that. I really dont think its the headphones since theyre quite new (HD 280 pro) but will test them to be sure. Ive been researching the bass a lot (massive thread obout it on talkbass) and problems with the high output and pickup height seems the be the theme. If this doesn't work i will be selling it and buying something of better quality!
  12. I have mailed seymour Duncan and will also double check the wires. If not working im having it looked at.
  13. Thanks, I tried that aswell and got the same results, the only difference that i got it clipping even with preamp eq att center or slightly cut (mostly bass). That does make some sense. I Have a cheap sterling stingray (SUB) with just one single MM style pickup at the bridge. I now have it set all the way down in the body and don't get clipping unless i play really hard. With tube Comp on there´s no clipping at all. The problem is that it doesn´t sound good at all having the pickup this low - it´s really bassy, flat sounding, no dynamics and the preamp eq doesn´t seem to do much at all. Really getting frustrated now... So your idea is to have a clean patch with just the same cougar settings, turn it off and the see if I can get it to clipp while raising the mixer? Should it be panned center and channel B at mute? Should I now try to raise my pickup at this point and how do I know if it´s right (aside clipping everything)? It´s FAR below factory specs. If I understand you correctly, if I know when it distorts by using this method (and hopfully how to make it stop) it´s all about adjusting the Cougars settings? I have played around with its settings some hours yesterday and got it to clip with the gain really low. The master didnt do much and the boost mostly just lowerd the volume.
  14. Hm might be a good idea. Allthough i do have a memory of the same thing with the previous preamp, like if the pickup has super strong magnets or something. Most of the People on talkbass seem to change it out. But dont Believe this has to do anything with the Pod anymore so think you so much for the help!
  15. Okey, so now I have put a lot of time in troublesolving this clipping issue and I have tried all your suggestions (and I am very thankfull for the time you have put in my problem). As mentioned above, The clipping is far less when using the tube comp and correct input settings. However I did not seem to get rid of the clipping even when changing the amps drive knob (still clipping when going through effects loop). So then I checked the action of the bass and starting to adjust the pickups and the are HOT!! and behave quite strange. When lowering them just a few mm it could go from distortion to more distortion, even when lowering them!? Efter a few hours i ended on having the pickup like flat with the body and turned the bass down 1/3 and treble up 1/3 on the preamp and now it sound a lot better!!! I can even turn of the comp when playing REALLY soft. Might to but some fresh string on to tell This problem was not as noticeable before the new preamp but still there and had to have pickups low. I now think that either the new pre is more powerfull or the pickup is defect or somehow missmatched with the new pre....
  16. Ok I Didnt have much time yesterday but did as you guys suggested and changed to input 1 guitar and input 2 variax (thought it sounded clearer that aux) and everything sounds a lot better! However i still get some distortion when not having the tube comp on (first in chain) so either the bass uncompressed is to much for the Cougar with curent settings or something else is overdriving it in the chain. I have yet hade the time to test it out in a clean patch with Cougar only.
  17. I use the Cougar as my main clean tone and more treating the second high Gain amp as a distortion pedal, as needed, thus retaining my low end from the bass amp. Its a clipping type of distortion when only using the single bass amp (as far as i can hear and quite wierd now when thinking about it) and is most noticed when playing the low b string harder, but also accurs on the other lower strings.
  18. Interesting.. What happens if you try my patch that i posted at the top?
  19. Hm i do think its the gk cougar 800 with the 8x10 thats clipping. Gain is @ 32 volume @50 and master @100 %. The cab DEP is set to RES @ 0 % and The rest normal.
  20. I tried that first of and hade some clipping but Will try to change input settings again when i get home. The wierd thing is that i dont seem to get clipping when using tuner or completely empty patch. If its the bass, it should clipping that aswell? PS i use dual amps with both channels panned to center...
  21. I consider your rambling great information and im very thankfull that you are putting effort in trying to help me. And you are ringt that its to easy to get stuck in a limbo of different settings and forget all obout playing!
  22. Ok, so I have been testing a few things out. First of, it seems like the bass has some insane high output pickup in it!!! It was clipping about -9 dbFS. Perhaps a new pup is in order? Secondly, I moved the tube comp first in the chain and changed the input 1 to guitar/aux/variax and 2 to same. If I now play like that with the pad i am quite good to go (I think). So new pup and maybe a external comp is the next thing a buy...
