I put a warmoth neck on a 69. I have planet waves on mine. Mine used to be on an old variax 69 and is a tilt back headstock strat neck. Flame maple, rosewood board, standard thin, 6105 stainless. Made a huge difference.

Wow! She's a beaut!!!

Is there enough room between the Line6 holes and the originals to simply leave the old ones, or did you need to plug them? I finally wore out the frets on my Mighty Mite neck and am looking at Warmoth. Unfortunately they charge extra for undrilled necks and consider them a long lead-time custom order. Would be nice if I didn't have to bother with that.
Finally, I assume the top holes line up correctly? My tech didn't seem to think that any of the Variax holes were on standard Fender center locations.
I didn't plug anything, just drilled the new holes. Yes, the top holes (or the two at the very end of the neck) were fine. I had to drill the offset hole (obviously) and the other one.

What tuners did you use?
It's the stock tuners from the JTV. On the Warmoth necks its the Gotoh size.

I wonder if you can get a variax decal to put on the new neck. The only thing that bothers me is the blank headstock.... it needs some kinda design decal flourish, lol
Very nice. Where did you get the decal? I've had various one's made off of ebay, and might do the same thing, as I don't like a blank headstock.
I also don't care for the blank headstocks. I had it custom made by some company in the UK (i forget the name of it...). You can specify what text you want and they print up the decals for you. You can choose from a few different styles as well.

All of Warmoth's Strat replacement necks will fit...the aesthetics of the headstock don't matter, just the heel dimensions, and those haven't changed since 1954. Order anything you like...those giant headstocks make it look like your guitar has a pituitary problem, if you ask me. Unless of course you're looking for it to double as a field hockey stick... ;)
One thing to be aware of is that the mounting holes do not all line up. I wound up needing to drill two of them on mine. Not a huge deal but good to be aware of before you order.

Here's my JTV now:

Thanks for the reply. Thinking of going for the Ibanez Andy Timmons AT100 vibe on steroids since my JTV 69 is burst finish.
Ive been playing the JTV neck for a couple of weeks and still feels a bit different to me.
I'm comfy with ibanez necks but didn't like the vibe of the JTV 89.
I have a Warmouth neck being made for my JTV69. I went with the standard thin profile, mainly because the wizard profile has a very limited choice of woods. I guess because it's so thin, they won't take chances.
I put a Warmoth neck on my JTV-69 as well (the standard thin with a CBS-era large strat headstock and a compound radius...). I just couldn't get used to the narrower nut width on the stock neck. The Warmoth neck is just phenomenal!

Fair enough...never used any of the Roland stuff. Why bother with piezos then? Seems this would have fewer issues with relative outputs, etc...
It would also alleviate the issue with palm muting and the dreaded "plink." If only there was a way to use that roland P/U with the JTV processing...

Curious about this myself. I'm really hoping it works. I've love to get my OS current again.

This was great and I actually really enjoyed the science-y first part!! Thanks for putting this out there!!

thank you always. I orderd new PC board to replace and am waiting for it. But keep finding solution by myself, by getting some help from forum.
Have you checked the intonation? I found that to be the biggest issue on both my 59 & 69. When I set the intonation, the warble almost* completely vanished.
I say almost because, as it has been said, pitch shifting comes with some artifacts however, they've been hardly noticeable to me since setting the intonation correctly.
-
The thing that I've found to make the biggest difference on both my JTVs (59 & 69) is proper intonation. I got both of them used and noticed a lot of warble I the alt tunings until I did a good setup and set the intonation correctly. After that, they have both been solid!

It's been there for a while:
http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Default-to-10-switches-IA-s-upon-selecting-preset/796488-23508
So it has. Voted!
-
The mode I'm definitely wishing for is 10 (foot-)switches, but when you go into presets mode and choose a preset, it immediately goes back to 10 switches. That would be really useful for me.
This would be WICKED awesome!! Get that in idea scale asap!!

This is not something that needs to be re-engineered. The 25' VDI cable from Line 6 works fantastically and is only 30 bucks.
Unless you want a shorter cable?
-
Don't break the tabs off. Get these:
One benefit of these is you can use the same cable for connecting to something like the Helix (which doesn't currently support Workbench) and to the USB interface for connecting to Workbench.

@theKennyG Can you please explain the scene mode/function as I've never used M13 that has that? Thx.
There are no "secens" on the Helix. It's a feature in the AxeFX units. Basically, each "scene" is just a collection of settings values for all of the blocks in a patch. Changing scenes just instantly changes all of the settings (including a blocks bypass state) in the patch. Since this doesn't actually change patches it allows for delays and verbs to spillover when you change scenes.

My old Late 90's GSP 2101 does, does a good job of it too! Want to buy it? Lol
I think the 2101 is one of the only units that does it. I also believe that was the device sited in that convo I mentioned that uses a separate processor to handle the spill over.
-
I can see how this could be done in the case of scenes because you're not really re-initializing the signal chain or releasing the assets. But a patch is really starting all over with a fresh signal chain so the assets have to be released. I suppose a separate processor might work as a way of handing things off while the new patch loads, but that's certainly not a player in a FW updgrate....now you're talking hardware.
Oh, for sure! I should have included that it's not likely we'll see spill-over between patches because it'd most likely require a hardware change to facilitate. I also agree that "scenes" functionality would probably cover this for most users. I'd LOVE to get that!!
-
Does anyone do this? AxFx, Kemper, etc??
It seems to me the very definition of a patch change inhibits this sort of thing. A patch change clears everything from the signal chain to load up new things. You can't carry a tail over that transition if the object producing the tail is unloaded from memory.
I don't believe any others do. I recall a discussion about this from a while ago (on the gear page I think...) and it was mentioned that it almost requires a separate processor chip to handle the spill-over. I think where others MAY have the advantage is in patch change times but, I don't have any experience with Kemper/AxeFX so I don't really know for sure.

Digitech Drop. Done.

From everything I've heard here on this and other forums, Scenes seem to be the top update request. I'm personally skeptical whether this will be in the next FW update given the critical bug fixes that need to be addressed like the Tempo problem and some various instability issues that can only be fixed by power-cycling the Helix. It's possible we might see a new amp or two and maybe a couple of additional FX.
One thing for sure, the sooner it comes out the less it will have in it.
I, for one, would be just fine with a release with NO new stuff and just a fix for the tempo issue! :)
Of course, new stuff would be awesome too! ;)

One warning though. You'll need a charged battery to connect to the Variax Workbench. At the moment, Helix doesn't act as an interface for workbench.

I had mounted my Helix Floor to a flat board with the feet still on it using Dual Lock and it held great. Never had an accidental release. I got a roll of it from Amazon but this set would probably do the trick. I think I used 6 1.5-2 inch pads and it held great.
