  1. My old Sonic Port cable with the 30-pin connector definitely works with the VX and iPad 3 under iOS8. Mobile POD works satisfactorily and the digital signal is much cleaner and stronger than that of the old SP or analogue interfaces like Peavey's Ampkit Link (which still works acceptably well).

The USB connector I used to hook up to a mains charger.

The issue is one of charging, and this likely is due to the Retina Display and other battery requirements of this particularly bulky iPad 3 model. I strongly feel that this is the reason Line 6 has not listed it as a compatible device - charging mileage may vary. What I did notice was a 2-3% loss of charge after a few hours of light use, which isn't so bad, and I take this to mean that the VX is actually supporting the iPad 3's battery, otherwise the loss of charge would be much greater within that time. I'm happy enough with its operation so far as to continue to hold out for the hotly-anticipated iPad Pro next year.

    Any thoughts, esteemed experts?

Reassuring to know that this issue affecting my JTV-69 literally out of the box (purchased October 2013) is not a figment of my imagination.

Doesn't quite smell that way, but a circuit board short-circuit is looking to be my problem and the LPB Variax is en route back to the dealer...

... and a replacement unit sent, which I received recently and am well pleased with, as its firmware is already upgraded to 2.0.

    Turned out nice again :-)

My weeks old Jtv-69 has failed on me, literally hours after first use.

I charged the battery up as per instructions, fitted it, and then played around with the guitar, auditing the sounds and tunings.

I then updated the software on my POD XT using Sound Monkey, and downloaded the Workbench HD update successfully.

I then connected the Variax to Workbench (detected successfully) via my Mac in the hope of updating the firmware to the HD version; the (blue and white) lights on both the Tuning and Model knobs illuminated briefly, no messages displayed on Sound Monkey, and then the lights went out on the guitar.

Since then I've not been able to get the guitar to power up. I'm currently recharging the battery, but also have a Line 6 XPS DI box powering the guitar, with no joy in powering the guitar up. What on earth could the matter be?

The lights aren't on, so are the mags working?    Is the fact that you can't switch it into modelling mode?   It may be the knob on the modelling switch. some of the knobs are drilled too deep, so it moves down to the point where you can't depress the switch.  pull the knob off of the modelling switch and see if the switch works by itself.   If it works, stuff some paper up inside the knob so that it won't slide down the switch too far.

Line 6 Support asked the same questions and made the same suggestion, but the switch under the knob wouldn't power the guitar either, and the mags weren't working to boot.

On their advice, the unit was returned to the vendor as having a defective power supply or circuit board, and a replacement unit sent, which I received recently and am well pleased with...

Same issue here, Line 6 support suggested exactly that, but no amount of toggling the bare encoder shaft would restore power to my Lake Placid Blue baby...

So here I am sadly parcelling it up again for a return - don't have the electrical skills for measuring current/voltage at various points of the circuit board, I'm afraid.

I was hoping a propellerhead would point me towards what wires to/from the battery and other main feeds to check.

Bummer... was just getting set to download the new sounds and all, first unboxing and tryout as well...
