  1. I already made some remarks on other threads about the app not being stable with OSX El Capitan. It crashes every few minutes/seconds, especially with export and import.

But I also found that when I try to import setlists (I was lucky once or twice when the export succeeded), often the imported presets all have the same settings (from the first preset) or are all blanco. The name of the preset is still there.

And, when connected to my macbook pro, Helix crashes too sometimes: just freezes, no buttons are operating, but I can still play. Or, it freezes and the main screen goes to black (with backlight on).

When it's not connected to my laptop, the Helix works like a charm.

    What could cause this?

Helpdesk sugested: reinstall app, new firmware update, factory settings, new cables, different usb ports. Did all that.

    Tnx for your support!

  2. Well, everything you say is true, but I was not working with the app, but on the actual Helix itself. I just saved one factory preset to another setlist and it copied all factory presets to that other setlist. And erased everything else that was in that list.

I did not have the App running at that time

  3. Yesterday I tried to save one factory preset to another setlist (not via the app, but on the Helix itself) and in stead of copying just that one preset,  it copied all factory presets to that other setlist. And it had overwritten all the presets that were already there....

    • Bad firmware Helix?
    • Bad app?
    • Bad Apple OS?
    • Bad USB-ports?
    • Bad cables?

Helpdesk sugested: reinstall app, new firmware update, factory settings, new cables, different usb ports. Did all that. Now their suggestion is: return to the shop and ask for a new one. Since they are almost always out of stock, I hope to find a better solution here.

    Anyone? Thanks!

  5. Update: I used an old powered USB 2.0 hub (brand: Elecom) between the Helix and the macbook pro and the Helix app is stable!

Update again: the crashing of the app appears so random that I thought the hub was a solution. Today I found that it's still very unstable:

    - crashes when exporting

    - imports go wrong: Presets are all empty or all presets have the same settings

I hope an OSX update solves this or that Line 6 will come with a solution. I just don't want to loose hours of work!!

  6. I'm using the Helix connected to a L2T via L6link for my feedback that I manage with the "Volume" knob and XLR output connected to mixer/PA an let the sound engineer manage it. That's works perfect for me.

    +1

  7. Hi there,

let me start of by saying that I absolutely love the Helix: The sounds, the ease of use, the flexibility, the looks!

However, at this moment my Macbook pro and Helix don't communicate that well. The App is very unstable and crashes every few seconds/minutes when exporting or importing or doing nothing at all, can't find the Helix, disconnects and gives me messages like: "No symbol lookup table present for models and parameters", and so on. Today I installed the update and the problem persists, no worse no better, but just almost impossible to work with.

I have a ticket open on this issue, so I'm expecting it to be solved anytime soon.

I opened this topic, to see if anybody has found a practical workaround for this and to learn from other experiences.

    tnx!

  8. I just received my Helix, so I am speed programming my sounds for my gig next Sunday. I'm in a coverband, so I need lots of sounds!

I don't no how many times I have pressed the joystick button to try to pick a block up, move it with the joystick and press the joystick to put it down. But that doesn't work!! As you all know, pressing the joystick opens the list of effects, cabs, etc. It drives me crazy!!

Is that just me?? I just can't seem to change my routine!

I would very much like to be able to switch the functions of the action-button and the joystick-button. Would be great for a next update!!

  9. For the band mix, try running the (mono) signal through a volume pedal before it hits the L2t. Jimmy Herring uses several, sometimes one for each part of the monitor mix.

"First, he prefers to split his dry and wet signals between separate speaker cabs, and second, his ’board features six Ernie Ball VPJR volume pedals that allow him to tweak the individual levels of all the other instruments onstage in his monitor."

A nice solution! I am hoping to go on stage with just the Helix and no other pedels though.  But tnx for the link

  10. 5. Instead of bending down and using the big volume knob you could assign an expression pedal to control the channel volume of the preset.

    6. .... but since you're willing to bend down to adjust things, you could manually adjust the L2t speaker volume and balance it with the Helix output level to get the mix you want, independent of the stage sound guy.

    5. So I could assign 2 function to the expression pedal, one to control my guitar volume on the monitor and the other for Wah or any other parameter. Correct?

    6. I don't expect to have to do this a lot during a gig, but once or twice maybe. Depends on the amount of alcohol our drummer consumes. Might have to turn the volume of my monitor up a notch with every glass :-).

    Tnx for your reply!

  11. Hi,

I have a analogue 2.0 Denon Stereo amplifier with two decent speakers setup in my living room. All my digital audio is routed via an external DAC into the Denon amp.

Can I hookup my Helix via the S/PDIF-out into the DAC and then into the Denon amp? Or via stereo XLR-out to stereo RCA directly in the Denon? I also have a Behringer mixer that I can use.

I just want to use this setup to create my sounds and to get a general idea of the stereo effects, etc.

Does anyone have experience with this?

  12. Hi there,

this is what I ideally want at a live gig with my 8 piece band:

    • My guitar goes into the Helix.
    • Connect Helix with Line 6 Link cable to L2T (used as my floor monitor).
    • Connect Helix with two XLR's to FOH-PA.
    • Feed the stage-mix of the rest of the band into my L2T.
    • When I use the volume knob on the Helix, I just want to change the volume of my guitar on the L2T and let the FOH-sound (the 2 XLR-out's) to be unchanged (and let the PA-guy handle that)
    • And I want to be able to change the volume of the mix of the rest of the band on the L2T (less dependant on the stage mix guy).

I know the first 4 bullets are possible. What about bullets 5 and 6?

    Thanks!
