    Helix 2.9

Because some would rather not see L6 wasting time on pointless endeavours just to quiet the masses. That and its a public discussion forum.....would be just as easy to say "if the thread is such a bother, why read it?"

    Helix 2.9

Without the use of an external device, i just dont see how youd change your input volume anyway.....other than the pad, which isnt going to be the difference between clipping and a clean signal...nor why youd want to, since the inputs are optimized for an instrument level signal. Gain reduction meters i can understand since mild compression and crossing over threshold points can be tough to hear. Sometimes you choose to compress the peaks only which would make GR vital in this case. Output meters simply for the purpose of patch leveling isnt going to be very accurate. For instance a sound with lots of bass can show greater value than a sound that is actually louder. I look at meters as more of an indication of sound energy more so than any volume indication.

    Helix 2.9

Lol all meters on Helix with the exception of a possible gain reduction meter, are completely useless, and are really nothing more than L6 lip service for all the people needlessly clamouring for meters. Id much rather see L6 focusing on things that matter.

    Helix 2.9

Thats a very valid point. One that hadnt occured to me. Still, id be happy if the HX and legacy doubles were addressed. There must be close to twenty of them? Even if there are sonic differences ( i havent had time nor cared much to attempt to find out which do) it cant be enough to make a huge difference, or something that cant be reproduced pretty easily.

    Helix 2.9

Im really a big fan of the drives and compressors added to each update. I wish they would do away with the doubles however.
  6. Nah just the free ones man. I even have their older freeware which are not often seen AFAIK.
  7. You dont even have to spend the money on ownhammer IRs, ill give them to you. PM me........but the thing is the cabinet tone hes getting is far more important than what amp hes using...digital - most amps sound alike, theyre just eq'd a bit differently and gain staged a bit differently from one another. Analogue - then yes id agree to start at the amp. In the digital realm id start by deciding with how he's getting his cab tone and you'll be %75 of the way home once you get that matched.
  8. Its going to sound pretty much identical. The perspective is a little different, similar to listening to your guitar live or a recording of your guitar, or looking at an apple or a picture of that same apple, but as far as the actual recreation of the sonics, they'll be extremely similar.
  9. I watched my bass player learn that the hard way. It was definitely a good -what not to do- lesson for me as well 20 years ago. The funny thing, this guy is so smart about that kind of stuff. He knew the result before we even plugged it into -whatever it was we plugged it into. OP: I would be trying to nail down the cabinet. Once you find an IR that matches Nunos cab, the rest should be pretty easy from there. I find it interesting that you detailed the pre/power section of his setup but didnt even acknowledge the cab and speakers which are very bit as important as the rest of his chain...and even more so in the virtual world
  10. Yeah im just trying to simplify some of the reasoning, not make it sound like you havent found anything new. sorry if it came off that way. Maybe because i tend to place little importance on how i arrived at X. Sometimes i might even knock a bunch of volume of the front of a hi gain amp and compress the snot out of it, if it cleans up nicely and works as a cleanish sound, then great....which is pretty much opposite of what you described here. i tend not to give much thought that its a high gain amp....or even a drive pedal that i may be dimming on the front end.
  11. There are many ways to get the same result. All youre really doing here is using Minotaur to drive a sound that "got pretty crunchy". Tone Sovereign is acting as the amp in this case, or where the most of the distortion is being generated, and the archon is mainly acting as a volume boost with some tone control, and since those "tone controls" come after the distortion they should be pretty responsive. Is it a viable alternative to just picking a high gain model? Does it sound like it is to you? Ive got tones that are built without using any amps at all that i like just fine. How you get there doesnt matter as long as you like the sound coming out in the end. The amps in helix sound exactly the same, its just that they are squeezed a little differently to give the distortion alternative handling from amp to amp. This is really all youve done.

    2.82 Update

Ive definitely had it happen but have never gotten any kind of error mssg.....unless that new to 2.82
  13. There really are other factors. Placement mainly. application as well. Theres a huge difference between having them on stands or on the ground.
  14. Yeah definitely better than the default IMO.
  15. Just wondering which preset you guys prefer on the 10.2?
  16. They had a power cab set up at my local music store and it just doesnt sound that good. There are also a number of other FRFR set up in close proximity. Unfortunately not the QSCs. Since then theyve gotten rid of the powercab altogether. There are number of FRFR options available that are better sounding than the powercab.
  17. Not sure why youd want to do that. The best place for a delay is after the speaker. Running it in the fx loop of a traditional guitar rig is a bit of a compromise. The main reason people put it in their fx loop (on a traditional guitar amp) is to avoid the extra effort that goes with placing it after the speaker. Placing it pre cab, youre not really gaining anything.
  18. On the editor...so now how do we know if a patch needs saved or has been edited since the folder/arrow no longer grays out when saved? This surely could not have been missed. Thats why im thinking its different.
  19. After being stuck at 50% for about 15 mins, i closed and restarted updater, ran it from the beginning, and update took about 3 minutes from there.
  20. Well all im saying man is that gear DOES matter. Anyone who thinks differently can tell themselves whatever they want, but you dont choose a boogie when you want a marshall sound and a fender wont sound like a marshall no matter what you do. Youll have to get a marshall for that.
  21. Well i mean if YOU have no doubt, then it must be true. Not sure why you couldnt have simply disagreed without all the douchery? Its apparent you dont understand the value of "getting the right sound". You dont get Stevie Rays tone with a les Paul and a JCM 800, and you dont get a guitar tone on an album like Pyromania on a Twin Reverb and a Rick, and a Soldano cab with Eminence speakers will never sound like a Marshall with greenbacks no matter how hard you try. No. apples to oranges.
  22. More in the digital era where most of the music is rehashed. If you think ACDC would have built their legacy on Mesa Boogie amplifiers just the same way they did using marshalls, i would have to disagree with that.
  23. Meh not really. People had asked whether or not there was anyone using Helix. Its never really been any secret or question that pros have been using Line6 products for years. The deeper question that was intended i believe was whether or not pros were using Helix in the same manner us home musicians are using Helix, with amp and cab modeling, and IRs, or whatever. I mean of course touring artists are using line 6 gear. We all knew that. However no one ever really knows to what extent. Seems to me Steve Stevens is using it for simply for the delays and not much else, there is another artist that uses helix for its tuner, routing capabilities and not much else. Does that really qualify? I dont know, people tend to worry about other people a little too much IMO. Just play what you like. If a touring artist uses the same gear then so be it. It doesnt change my life in any way if he IS using the same equipment as myself...It doesnt validate my decision to purchase helix because a touring pro is using it....just as i wont discontinue use if he decides to.
  24. The peculiar thing about it all is, when it happened in my case, Helix was the audio card being employed, and the clicks and pops were recorded to the track. Conversely when its an issue of CPU, the artifacts are NOT recorded.
