  1. Hi. I want to run my HX FX with all internal effects into the effects loop of my amp.

I want to run the delay/reverb blocks in the loop specifically.

My understanding is that to be in the loop the effects need to be in between the send/return blocks. But does the FX loop block do the same? And if so, does it mean that anything after the FX loop block is in the loop?

Which of these would be the right way?

Wah Block > OD Block > Chorus Block > FX Loop Block > Delay Block > Reverb Block

    OR

Wah Block > OD Block > Chorus Block > Send Block > Delay Block > Reverb Block > Return Block

    Thank you.

Yes - this is the way to do it and is also my set up pretty much. Are you talking about the revival drive compact? Either way you'll want to run the revival drive with post drive eq set to P/AMP so it's properly working as a pre amp.

I have the Revival drive in the fx loop - HX FX Has noise gate > compressor and maybe some of the hx fx overdrives and then the FX Loop.

I have a few more pedals in the loop than pictured below but I always have the Revival drive at the end of the loop going back into the HX FX.

Then delay/reverb etc after the loop and out into the power amp (pedal baby in my case).

Be prepared to be blown away by the RevivalDrive - it's stunning - the way it handles all those string dynamics, scrapes, hits etc... it's just awesome.

    Yes, that sounds about right.

I have a similar setup but I only use one loop. This is my approach for a cover band that I'm in:

-Guitar ->  Digitech Drop -> HX FX input

-In loop 1 : Tube Screamer -> Mooer Cali Mk3 (Preamp). I really only use the TS pedal in front of the preamp, for any post drive/boost I use HX's Gain block and boost the signal from +3 to +6 dB for Solos.

-Boss FV-500L on Exp/Ext amp 2 in to control some parameters on HX's effects blocks.

-Place Loop 1 block wherever I want it to be.

-Put HX's effects wherever I want, after/before the pedals in loop 1.
-Go out from the HX FX to a Mooer Baby Bomb 30 power amp and then to Mesa 2x12 closed back cab.

Using this approach leaves Loop 2 free when I need to connect to my Peavey 6505mh in 4CM and use Ext amp 1 out for channel switching when playing with my Metal band.

Thanks guys. I'm starting to receive the items now. Can I go out of the HX Effects with a solder less patch cable into the power amp? That should be safe to do right?

  3. Hey all.

I've asked this question elsewhere also but I thought this is the best place maybe.

I have a HXFX. I want to get a Origin Effects Revival Overdrive Custom. I already have a Seymour Duncan Powerstage 170.

I want to use the Revival Overdrive as the preamp, and the HX FX as the effects and the Powerstage as the power amp and have a pedal board based amp setup.

I also want to put an OD I like and a Pitchfork in a loop together. How do I go about this and still be able to move my stomps before and after the preamp?

I was thinking it may be something like:

    -Guitar in

    - HX Effects with Origin Revival Drive in loop one. Place the loop at the point where I want           the preamp.

    - Put the OD in the next loop. Place that loop before the Revival Drive.

    - Put effects wherever I want, time based after the preamp etc.

    - Go out of the HXFX into the power amp, and then from there into my cab.

    Does that sound right?

    Thanks!

  4. Hi.

I've got a Dunlop DVP4 Mini X in the Pedal/Ext Amp 1 on my HX Effects.

For some reason when I try and learn it to a parameter it doesn't work properly. If I go from heel to toe it'll go from 0-100 and then back to 0 again. I can't find anything in the manual about this.

    Any help? Thanks.

I use my expression pedal to control all delay levels (actually, it's the delay mix). Snapshots never need to control whether or not a delay is on/off or the level of the delay. You could do that for any effect of your choice to relieve the pressure a little.

    Thanks.

So say I need 5 snapshots really.

    1) drive

    2) drive, pitch

    3) drive, boost

    4) drive, phaser

    5) drive, boost, delay.

So  I could have delay on set the expression pedal to control the delay mix, and then use the 3rd one with the delay mix set to 0 with the pedal back, and then hit the pedal to turn the delay on, and then lift it up to go back to normal, and use that as my like 5th one?

    That’s what you mean?

  6. I fixed it. It seems the program I was using was called Helix. Not HX Edit. I don't know really. I just uninstalled and installed that and it's working fine now. :)

  7. Hi. I can't load IR's into my Helix using HX Edit. Both are the current firmware. I click load IR, or attempt to drag them in, it indicates I have tried to do it, and the slot lights up, it gives me a percentage until completion if I load multiple ones, but they all just come up as EMPTY and they just won't load.

    Any ideas why? Thanks.

  8. Hi. Just a question as there’s a few different blocks.

I’ve just got a Helix. When playing live I want to use my amp for amp sounds and the Helix for the effects.

I want to use the 4 Cable Method.

Do I use the send/return block or do I have to put the send block and the return block in individually in different parts of the chain?

And if there’s nothing needed before the amp I just place it right at the beginning?

Here’s what I’m thinking the two types should look like. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

    1. Wah, Pitchshifter, Send/Return, Phaser, Delay, Reverb.

    2. Send/Return, Phaser, Delay, Reverb.

    Many thanks.

  9. I’ve just got Native and I’m getting rid of the Kemper as I’m using the Helix more and more.

I’m sure that having loads of tracks with Native open will use excessive amounts of processing power.

I have a fairly recent MacBook Pro (2015) and I’ve had 40+ track projects open without a problem when using the Kemper, but I hear a few stories about high CPU useage.

I could freeze tracks I don’t use but then I need to unfreeze them to playback and stuff which could mean more stress in the system.

Maybe it won’t be any problem, but I’m just asking how you chaps do it. Thanks!

  10. Well, if you disable Native, you have just the raw guitar sound. Probably not useful.

What you CAN do, if you want... is take a hybrid approach. Record using the patch in Helix, and then record a mono dry track at the same time. You can use that mono dry track to "re-amp", but you won't have to have Helix even turned on to do it, just fire up Native.

Or you could just use Native for all of it and then just bounce the track to a new track and turn off Native on the old tracks :)

  11. You can easily take one source in and do anything you'd do with that one source in Helix. So, you could record a bass track and then have it go through 2, 3, 4 bass amps in ONE instance of Helix. It's no problem. But Helix Native responds to ONE input and has ONE output... so...

...you can easily eq two different amp paths WITHIN HELIX NATIVE but there's only one external EQ available on that track.

So, if you wanted to use your DAW's channel EQ, you could simply create two instances of Native, then you could "freeze" them if you need to free up CPU horsepower.

Here's what you CAN NOT do... you can't take ONE instance of Helix Native and use two different inputs or send it to two different outputs. So all my fancy two-voice stuff has to be done with two tracks, and two instances of Native.

    Does that make sense?

And once it's recorded and tracked you could just turn off Native or will the track be dead? I guess you could bounce it and all your reamps and just turn off Native on those tracks, right?

  12. The software license will be independent of the hardware. If you sell your Helix, the person who buys it from you won't be able to get the software for a discount. Also, I believe the software license is going to be non-transferable.

So as long as I've bought it I'll always get the updates and the same features as the normal priced version, or are you forced to connect it to the unit?

Not that I'll get rid of it, but I still wouldn't wanna spend £100 on something that could be useless if I'd ever sell the Helix. If it were I'd rather get the £400 one at the time if I ever did sell it.

  13. Am looking forward to this!

If I buy Native, and in a year or a week or whatever I sell my Helix for whatever reason, what happens to my access to Native? Is it linked to your account or to the account?

    Thanks.

  14. I have a Kemper and now a Helix.

I've only just got the helix, but the ease of use is winning me over.

I would say the Kemper is a bit more organic, it sounds exactly like the amp it profiled, but the Helix has a more high definition sound to it, which is where the difference lies. It's a little more obviously digital. Only because it's so crisp and stuff. You may think that's a good thing, but real miked amps in a studio sound a bit different, they're a little bit duller, they aren't as vibrant. But it's all very minor stuff and no one will ever notice. Ultimately it sounds amazing, but it's not as close to what a miked amp sounds like, it's more high def. Its a good thing in it's own right.

I'll probably keep only one of the two, I'm thinking about keeping the helix due to ease of use and how great it sounds with ownhammer IRs.

But then again, I may keep both. :D

  15. I'm using a MacBook. I have a Variax Standard. I couldn't get Workbench to work so I checked online and done the Pacifist workaround.

I can connect it and get workbench working. I can change the model via workbench and the Variax but I can't get any changes to work or send to the guitar. I figure that each change I make on the computer should reflect in the tone of the model, right?

I can't get it to send anything and sometimes it just crashes when I change something or turn the tone knob, for example.

How is this thing meant to work?

Also, can you download settings for the guitar? The original Strat settings are a bit bright and thin. A great model that I can download would be amazing.

    Thanks.
