Hi, I have seen variations of this issue, but haven't been able to implement a solution. I bought a JTV-89F and found a Variax 700 bass and got them both Friday. I am using the USB adapter that came with the JTV-89F. Using Monkey, I was able to update the firmware for everything: USB adapter, JTV-89F, and the Variax 700 bass. Not sure the exact version numbers as I don't have it in front of me, but regardless Monkey is not seeing anything that needs to be updated, hence it is the latest version. Monkey does recognize the Variax 700 bass--it shows up as USB Variax Bass. So it is being recognized and is working with the USB adapter. Open up Workbench HD with the bass plugged in and it says something along the lines of it being "not compatible" or "not recognized" with this version of Workbench. Fine, I'll download the older version Variax Workbench. Doesn't show up under the Windows 10 section because apparently it isn't compatible, so download it from the Windows 8 section. Get it installed and loaded and while it recognizes the USB adapter, it doesn't recognize the bass and says approximately that. Now, I am at work and not in front of my computer, but it could be the solution is running Variax Workbench in Windows 8 compatibility mode. I'll test it when I get home. But just wanted to see: does anyone else has a solution to this issue? Some other things to point out: Rnning Windows 10 Was able to register the JTV-89F through Line 6 online no problem, but it doesn't want to take the Variax 700 bass serial. Probably because it was bought used and registered to someone else so I have to call Line 6 to have them release it. Anyway, just bringing that up in case it is relevant somehow.

Hi, I am looking into picking up a JVT-89F but am unfamiliar with the technology. While I have read through the manuals there are still some things I am not fully wrapping my brain around. I am looking to consolidate some of the guitars in my home studio (Strat, Rogue Sitar, , etc.) where I use a UAD Apollo 8p--whether or not that is relevant to answering the below questions. I do not intend to do a lot of tweaking and making custom guitar models. Just taking advantage of the models it comes with -> 8p -> into DAW and amp emulation software. In that case, is Workbench even needed? 1) Each JVT has a standard TS 1/4" output so that it can be used as a typical guitar (i.e., guitar -> 1/4" cable -> amp)? Using this, you would not be able to take advantage of the guitar models? 2) What I wasn't understanding was how to get the CAT network cable looking VDI output into the computer. Upon some reading, it sounds like you are supposed to plug it into an interface and then from interface, USB into computer. I wasn't sure what interfaces, but apparently it is any number of Line 6 products that have VDI in. Is there an alternative? I thought I saw someone mention a Yamaha device. If you are forced to buy a POD to take advantage of the models, or something, to use the Variax then it might be a no go for me. Don't have the rack space, nor the need for one. Is there just a simple VDI to USB converter? In the event that the guitar models are playable through the 1/4" jack, I have heard there are issues with the A string being too low in volume, which requires Workbench to increase. I might be forced to find a way to get the VDI into the computer for processing workbench.
