  1. Hi datacommando,

I'm uploading version 2.0 firmware (for the first time) (Mac OSX) for my Helix floor controller. Doing this so I can back up my patches in case any problems occur when further updating to the latest (2.81) firmware. Two questions: 1. Line 6 Updater is asking me to complete the 2.0 update by 'resetting globals and restoring factory settings'. Helix seems to have kept all my patches fine, so is this necessary, and if so, how's that done? and 2. When updating to 2.81 will the 2.81 firmware automatically find my patches and settings from 2.0 and install them ... ?

No, thanks, you've been great. Truly I don't know why anyone would be generous enough to give so much of their time on this. Me, I take the view (unlike many, I know) that although it's fine that making music requires a degree of technical input, there comes a point where it's about the music, and you just want the gear to work. You're not the only one who's needed a drink in the past couple of days ... but thanks for getting me to The Other Side https://thewooddemons.bandcamp.com/track/the-other-side

      Cheers, Simon

      Thanks Data Commando,

In answer to your statement: "I simply don’t know what you have done ..."

In my post  I stated that: " I used 'export' to save all of my custom presets to a folder on my Mac. 2.81 firmware installed OK". So just to be even clearer, I installed 2.81 successfully. And my question was: where are the promised new amp and other models? Also not unclear, in my opinion. These are promised as part of this update - a small reward for having to go through the torture of doing it.

I don't know if you work for Line 6 or not. If not, you're a hero. If you do, please pass on my views to Line 6. They are these: I buy expensive gear to assist me in performing and recording, not present me with stressful, time-consuming hoops to jump through. Much of the 'helpful' (Line 6) guidance in making this transition to new firmware is quite clear, fair enough. And if people didn't read it, yes, their fault. However, I did read it. Carefully. Some it is clearly ambiguous, far from user-friendly, and raises as many questions as it answers. I can't imagine Apple, or any other releaser of new software to their customers, allowing an update to be such a torment. Or taking the lollipop out of anyone making the mistake of making a mistake in the conversion process. It's not great customer service, and it won't do much for brand loyalty. Not from me, anyhow.

A big thank you for the help you were able to give me. I understand your frustration. But if if you do work for Line 6, your pain is their responsibility, not the responsibility of customers like me and the many others who've also been frustrated to the point of psychosis by this ridiculous process.

      Thanks,

So as my presets were only visible on the old 'Helix' app ( at that point HX Edit 2.81 doesn't see any of my stuff), I used 'export' to save all of my custom presets to a folder on my Mac. 2.81 firmware installed OK (apart from the Exp pedal not responding, so I reset each preset manually to detect it).

So, I expected to see the new amp and effects models after the new update, but nothing new there. Have I missed a step somewhere?

Hi again Data Commando, so I have an older version of HX Edit called 'Helix'. Connecting my Helix device to Mac OSX I can see my presets and patches on my Mac (see image). So am I backed up safely to download the latest HX Edit and then to update to 2.81?

      Thanks.

I'll follow the instructions for uploading 2.81. I'm assuming you mean holding down those foot switches when I do that.

I hope the brain transplant is worth it, or I'll need one myself ... :-)

Thanks. I think I did read everything carefully, and tried to understand it as best I could. The accompanying manual on my Helix says it's version 2.0. I did open the 'Helix' icon and yes, it shows my presets. If I take some tranquillisers first, I'll move to updating to the latest firmware version. Hopefully that will restore the use my Expression pedal settings which Global settings didn't do. Wish me luck.

This is what I downloaded to my mac (see screenshot). It downloads in Applications as Line 6 Updater Utility, file size 87MB. Connected Helix to Mac - intention to backup my presets/patches. My presets are all in place. I reset globals and restored factory settings for Ins/Outs (I don't use the other options). My Exp pedal wasn't responding as a volume pedal so I tried to reset global settings for Exp pedal - this didn't work and I had reset the vol pedal settings manually. Doing this for some of them, the Helix froze. That's where I am.

  11. Thanks for being so clear about updating to the latest Helix 2.81 firmware. My problem is that I can't back up the previous HX edit for my Helix 2.0 because I don't have any HX edit on my Mac. So where can I get the 2.0 compatible HX edit forward to download so I can back up to it, then safely update to 2.81?

Thanks Datacommando. (Actually, MacOSX) :-) The problem I had (I guess others might have, too), is  not scrolling down to the bottom of the page - because it's headed so it looks like only the latest download. Thanks again.
