  1. I too have had this same problem and I think it's a software issue.

I think something went wrong with HX Edit

What I did was 1. rebuild the patches

    2. Reset Globals

This was done AFTER the 3.61 update To Native and Edit. So far, so good.

When that has happened to me, the patch that you switch to that the Helix freezes on is corrupted. to confirm this is the issue, after you reboot, go to a different patch if the Helix hasn't already, save the patch that may be corrupted, copy an empty patch and paste it in where the "corrupted" patch is. If everything works normally, the patch was the issue. Don't put it back in the Helix.

Try rebuilding the patch from scratch.

Is there any benefit over using an L6 link cable over a regular XLR cable when using the Helix floor with my L2 Stagesource?  I'm just wanting to keep it set to REFERENCE/ P.A. the whole time, I think?

On the subject, I'm hoping that the Powercab on order will give me more of a guitar amp sound rather than a monitor sound that I feel I'm getting with the Stagesource, but maybe a L6 link cable will enhance my experience?

A regular XLR cable would be 75 Ohms. You need an 110 Ohm cable because you're transferring digital data.

L6 Link cable is 110 Ohms. Using it with the helix you can store speaker modes.

The cable will NOT affect guitar vs. monitor sound that you get but, it will make setup easier.      Cheers

I have four different FRFR Solutions and - depending on the venue size - one of these works. BTW, all my patches are stereo which was based on my old 2 amp and pedal board rig. In all case with the Helix, I send the XLR outs to FOH and the quarter inch out to the FRFR

Option 1 - Large venues - Mission Gemini 2. Extremely accurate reproduction, works in stereo - large footprint and weighs 75lbs.

What would you consider a large venue? Stage or Room size.

From my first Pod to now, I've always figured I would need to spend at least a full day with an amp to try and get what I can out of it. Saving whatever I thought was interesting and listening to them again one or two days later. Just to have new ears listen to it from a fresh perspective. It is time consuming but it's been the best way for me to learn really what the amps can do.

Great approach!  I didn't look at at it that way. Thanks for sharing

  6. Yes DI it's Line 6's wheelhouse. But IMHO the tones were not really on "Top O the shelf" with Kemper and Fractal until Helix came out  ;) AS always YMMV.

While I'm at it, if you add a few more delay's to Native like this, it would be icing on the cake...

Can't you already do this with the Helix?

  7. Well, aside from sounding identical, will it feel the same? That's of equal importance to me. In fact, I can work around a different tonality and even not so great tonality if the feel is decent. It would be important to have patches created in the software version translate well to the hardware version but I'm not sure there's a way to guarantee that. For me, it's probably a matter of a few tweaks once you get it onto the hardware Helix. No biggie - to me. But what if... the software ends up sounding better than the hardware version because of superior interface electronics and design and/or superior A/D conversion?

What if I were using say, a Burl preamp and A/D converter? I'm sure that the Helix's A/D is not of that caliber. What would the difference in sonics and feel be?

I was thinking the same thing. Perhaps if you're not going use the hardware Helix as an interface then maybe something like the Motu Zbox would help on the impedance side of things. Assuming your are happy with your A/D D/A converters.

  8. Easy mate, I didn't realize you had the golden ear curse. Helpful for everyone to know, as the next answers will feel less like punishment to you with that context provided.

I was just trying to pre-answer your question "are you sure you know what latency sounds like?" by saying I do based on monitoring various parts of the signal path when recording.

I have Never experienced latency with this unit (pod HD500) using the unit alone. But I have experienced it when recording which is a different animal.

  9. WRONG WONG....I'm sorry to hear the HD series is probably EOL....WRONG WRONG I HAVE FOUND OUT THIS IS NOT TRUE. I'M LEAVING IT IN BUT PLEASE DISEGARD. but am glad it was said. I've been a Line 6 boy since the XT/Vetta days. Have I had my dissapointments and has Line 6 dropped the ball at times? Yes. Have I gotten my money's worth? Absolutely. But the HD series, aside from sounding good, seems to be a step back. Each POD, from 2.0 to the X3, seemed to always add more options aside fom the modeling. And with firmware upgrades, often added even more. Just kept getting more computer recording and output options.

Now with the EQ situation, no power switch, less ouput and computer recording options than before, etc. It's been a let down in some ways. I am not unhappy with my HD500 or the JTV69 I also own but I think I will sit back and wait awhile before I hop aboard Line 6's latest and greatest like I used to.

I still have my XT bean, XT Live, Vetta, Variax 500, UX2 auidio inteface and X3 live which all have what I consider to still be very good modelling. At the very least, I can pettry much get whatever I need and want out of them, and be happy about it. I haven't used anything but Line 6 for everything since I got my first XT and guitar wise when I got my first Variax so I think I'm good for now.

I have approx. (counting the pre HD models) 102 guitar amps, 39 guitar amp cabs, 29 bass amps, 23 bass amp cabs, six mic preamps, over 100 effects, over 50 guitars with the ability to create my own. Compared to what I had before I'm doing good. Will I get a sound exactly like "Insert name here" JCM800 or whatever else you want to conjure up. Sometimes, maybe. Can I get a sound that, from jazz to folk to folk rock to rock to rock & roll to metal to grunge, ad nauseum, is at worst tolerable and at best, inspiring. Yes I will and have. So again, for now, unless it's fairly mindblowing, I'm good and I'm done. (for now ;))

I'm with you on the "step back" in terms of options both hardware and software.

But, sometimes you have to take a step back to move forward.

    That's how I see it.

Do I want the options that were available on the older products? Yes

The sounds I am using now (HD) trumps the older stuff in spades.

That is way more important to me. I prefer Sound Quality over options.

It is not a perfect world but if you have tools you can work with to get your sound

    then it's a done deal.

Also thank you  Digtal_Igloo for your abundance of patience.

Some people on this thread don't hear what you're saying because it doesn't fit in

    with what they're thinking.
