If Helix can't make me a sandwich after the next update, I'm going Fractal...

This kills me but because it's real. I have come full circle with the Helix. I tried other eateries but the food at the Helix is like a home to me. So delicious I keep coming back. The grass is not greener I assure you. Next people will demand advanced AI and Quantum computing in an update.

  2. I ended limiting electrical noise (60 hZ hum) and using the strobe tuner until buying a TC Electronics Polytube 3. That was a game changer for me. I use to use the boss pedal and that was fine. I built my own PC and with the graphics card and stupid RGB lights I put in it I needed a 1200 watt power supply. The PC was very loud electrically so I turned off my lighting and undervolted my GPU plus added some shielding. It made a world of difference.

I use the strobe mode and it works perfectly well.  I hate to be that guy, but this has to be user error.  I do have a helix floor, so maybe if you have a stomp it's different?  I doubt it, but trying to give you the benefit of the doubt here.

I am actually using the Helix floor. Literally the 3rd one I have had. Never used the tuner much. I have always had either a polytune or my old Boss tuner. However I was using the fine tuning setting, and did not realize I was getting a lot of electrical noise from my computer and it was bugging up my signal. So yeah, user error.    : ).  It happens.

  4. I do not mean to kick a dead horse but I can't stand using the tuner on the helix. I lost my boss tuner and I just got a new guitar so I figure I will use the helix tuner to adjust my intonation. What a mistake and horrible experience that was. I knew it was not that great years ago but surely after all the updates, I figured it would fine. Not a chance. I set the input to just guitar I went over all the settings and have looked at the forums. It just does not seem to be a good tuner at all. If any one has any advice on how to make it work better I am all ears but it just seems to be one of those things.

The only real advantage of using IRs (instead of the onboard Cabs) is to have complete control over the cab sound.

You can choose the Cab, the mic/s, the preamp, and how the mic is positioned.

I think the onboard Cabs are fine.

IRs are just another way to customize the overall sound to your specific preferences.

Certainly not necessary... but (IMO) particularly nice

I know this is old but can't you do all that with factory caB SETTINGS?

  6. Hello all. I am not sure if this is the place But I am looking for help or advice on creating a patch to closely replicate the insane crushing metal tone of Dimebags set up on the Pantera album Great Southern Trendkill. I have tried the customtone presets but they just do not make the cut in my humble opinion. So if anyone has any advice or settings or a patch they can upload I would greatly appreciate it.

  7. Just wanted to let every one know how happy I am. The latest version of HX edit works with my new PC build. It seem s there was an issue because I was using the new X570 motherboard and newest ryzen cpu. Finally everything works flawlessly. I spoke to line 6 on the phone a few months back and learned that there was an issue there and am grateful they listened and addressed it.

  8. I know this is old but it sounds like me when I first got my helix floor. I hated it. I couldn't get a good metal tone to save my life because I was not familiar with it. I was using like I used my digitech rp 500. This is a different type of beast. After watching some videos and doing some research and even borrowing a headrush, I fell in love with my helix floor I can get almost any tone I can think of on the fly using HX edit and the tweaking is endless. This is an amazing sounding processor.

I do not know if it is my processor (Ryzen 3700X) or my MB but it is something lol. HX edit works on my other computers just not this one. The one I need it to.

I did update all drivers and tried 3 different GPUs. I have not opened a ticket but since everything has failed I will. I built this PC to use as my workstation for music as well as gaming. Hopefully this will get resolved so I can stop bringing my helix in my sons room to create new sounds and experiment lol. HX edit is so much easier than using the Helix its self to edit or create presets. Thank you for your advice and time rd2rk.

Of course it's not your fault! When Line6 built HX Edit they built in a feature that blocked YOUR specific configuration from being able to use it with Windows 10! :-)

    Seriously, here's what you do.

First, make sure that Windows is up to date.

Second, make sure ALL of your drivers are up to date, INCLUDING the Motherboard drivers.

FWIW - it helps to be SPECIFIC about the hardware you're running. Certain Video cards and Motherboards have been reported as problematic.

Delete all things Line6. Search your directories to be sure you got it all. Use a Registry cleaner (Like CCleaner) to make sure there's no lingering traces.

    Do a clean boot.

    Perform ALL Windows Updates.

    Do a clean boot.

Now, being EXTREMELY careful to follow the install directions EXACTLY, Install the latest HX Edit (v2.82) with ALL options. Again, being EXTREMELY careful to follow ALL directions, use the L6 Updater to update the hardware.

IF, after doing ALL of the above, you still have problems, start over with a CLEAN INSTALL of Windows 10.

Repeat ALL of the above steps.

If you STILL have problems, do a COMPLETE hardware inventory, open a support ticket and include COMPLETE details of your hardware configuration.

If you're lucky, support will have a history of problems with your specific hardware configuration, or know some trick I'm unaware of.

I know, sounds like a lot of work. But consider - your laptop works fine. Your DIY build doesn't. But you expect Line6 to fix it for you?

Thanx for the advice. I did 2 fresh windows installs I am using an MSI X570 motherboard with a Samsung EVO970 M.2 and a vega 64 amd graphics card I still have had no luck getting HX edit to work on this PC. I am so frustrated with it.

  11. HX edit has never worked on my new PC build using the newest windows 10 version. It works perfect on my old PC with the older version of windows 10 and my laptop but when I built this pc in august 2019 I installed the newest ,latest version and build. Has not worked since. Just a clear window that closes when the helix is connected.I know a little about computers enough to know it is not my fault and it seems to be missing a framework hindering it's operation. I wish it would be fixed.

I have this same issue on Windows 10 and have opened a support ticket.  I suggest you do so.  It's possible one of the basic suggestions will help you, but it seems there are potentially bigger fish here.

It appears so. This works on my gaming PC but the one I just built for recording and streaming has this issue and I have tried almost everything. Thanks for the reply.

More info please. Which version of HX Edit did you install and what version of the firmware are you on? What OS are you using?

2.80 both. Windows 10 home latest version.

  14. Everytime I try to open hx edit it copies whats on my desktop into a slightly smaller window then closes as son soon as it connects to my helix. I've tried reinstalling, restarting and every compatibility mode. I don't know if it makes a difference but I have a new ryzen 3700X processor. Please help me if you can. Thank you for any help you can give.

  15. If I could afford it I would buy it to. I love my Helix floor but I always want more. Maybe it's a grass is always greener thing but I m just addicted to gear and toys and love playing with them. I get the best sounds I have ever got out of a processor from the Helix and I love it but I also bought it because I was under the impression there would be continuous updates.

  16. Anyone able to come up with a good sounding acoustic sim preset. I've tried and have a few some even using taylor IRs but I'd like to know what others are doing and how you are doing it. Are their some some basic guidelines to follow. Thank you.

  17.   When I first bought my Helix I didn't understand it and how it worked and tried to use it like one of the many cheap multi effects units I've owned in the past. But after research and tinkering I fell in love with it and look forward to using it every day. But I kept trying to use IRs believing what I was reading about the stock cabs. After getting some IRs that I found to not be to my liking I started tinkering with the stock cabs more and found that I now live them and have been creating and using presets with stock cabs. They sound amazing to me. Was wondering if this is the case with others.
