  1. Hi

I'm a Helix not Stomp user, but the term is re-amping and in principle involves:

    • recording a dry input into the DAW - you can use USB from the Stomp to do this
    • having the DAW route the dry signal back to the Stomp for processing and then re-recording as a processed track

Rather than provide a detailed explanation that might miss bits I suggest you have a look at the Stomp manual here and read through the USB audio section from page 55 as a starting point  https://line6.com/support/manuals/hxstomp/

You will also need to know how to configure inputs and outputs in Reaper (again not a Reaper user) - but I think the Stomp manual will help you get the concepts and might make understanding the Reaper part a bit easier.

Welcome to learning a whole new language and way of doing things. I'm sure the forum can help with specific questions as you work your way through.

The resources here will also help https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=re-amping+reaper

Edited to add that you can record a processed track whilst recording an unprocessed one when doing takes - sometimes you will just use the processed track but give flexibility whilst recording the sound you're working with at the time.

  2. They look like extreme settings on the compressors. Have you tired similar on the Helix with one before the amp and one post cab (likely different comressors for each too)? Also wroth trying the mix control of the Helix compressors, particualrly post cab, so find what works for that sound.

    Did you read this?

For the love of God, don’t post another thread about it or ask it again!”

    Hope this helps/makes sense.

Didn't even need to read the post here - just the release notes that they managed to link in their own post.

    From the notes

    I updated but why don't I see [Model X]?

HX Edit can't magically see new models added to your Helix/HX hardware; you must update HX Edit at well. Here's a link:

  4. Having had a quick look at the website for the IR-200 then yes, thinking of it as an amp at the end of the chain makes sense.

It also looks like you could use the Boss send and return to place some effects between the simluated amp and cab (eg reverb, delay) if that floats your boat.

I would keep it simple and treat it like an amp with all effects going into the front - just for simplicity - but thats me.

The key assumtion here is you like the units amps and cabs enough to work with them.

  5. Via L6 Link:

    • yes the model changes
    • yes you can prgramatically change the colour
    • no the text doesn't change (I have no idea if you can with midi) as you are not moving between PC+ presets, but changing the same one nondestrcutively (the settings are saved in the Helix patch, NOT on the PC+) - tbh that has never bothered me as I can hear the change
    • mic type and distance affect the XLR output from the PC+ only not the sound you hear in the room - the speaker models are modelled "in the room" and you are applying a modelled mic within the cab to be picked up by the XLR so you don't need  to physically mic the cab (hopefully that makes sense)
    • I can't explain all the ways it can be controlled, I've only ever used L6 Link as it worked for me and controlled all the parameters I wanted at a per snapshot level for each patch if required
    • Despite having used custom changes for my 2xPC+ for quite a while, I reverted to FRFR for ease of use, workflow, and sound consistency - I deliberately reduced complexity

  6. If your 'fly rig' was a Stomp then you could stay in the same ecosystem, learn about the amps and cab blocks in the Helix as you set-up the stomp, use a consistent editing tool etc.

It sort of sounds counterintuative to do that given you have the Helix, but I'm also pretty sure you could control the stomp with the Helix to change amps and cabs (or anything else in the chain).

  7. You should expect it to change dramatically - amps in the real world (and effects) are all impacted by changes in guitars (and parts). It just sounds like you have to re-learn what works for that guitar (again, like in the real world).

What is that's making the cleans great that would impact on dirty - input levels, impedence, different tone? Most likely higher output pickups pushing the amps a bit more sounds great on clean tones but has exposed issues with your gain levels on dirtier sounds. Good dirt sounds are never as dirty as some people think.

  8. Hi

Considering an LT as a back-up for my floor. From customtone it seems the patches are interchangeable. Interested in anyone's experience and if anything like extended IO use causes patches to fail to load, or any other gotchas.

    thanks

it would be much nicer if it had some visual, eg exclamation mark next to IR block

For you, but sorry, I disagree and think it would be a horrible UI/UX outcome. A dialog box that warns me that there's an issue with my patch seems much more likely to ensure I do something about that or not.

That said, if its a feature you want post it in IdeaScale to see if others feel the same as you, as Line 6 doesn't look here.

  10. If you're using the PC+ as FRFR you'd be better off using the Helix XLR sends direct to FoH. This won't work if you're using the PC+ cab sims.

Or buy a second PC+ and daisy chain via AES (makes on left and one right, and with room on stage they sound massive) and take an XLR send from each.

  11. You can also drag and drop, but yes that can be painful too. But no nothing super easy in HXEdit.

You can export them and rename them in a folder so they sort as you require (eg leading 001 through 128) and then import - and yes thats painful.

There is a guy in the "Line 6 Helix Family User Group OFFICIAL and ORIGINAL" who has coded a spreadsheet and powershell method for list management - look up Michael Dawson.

You can use a 'librarian' method where you use a static set list and an external tool to manager setlist order - eg I use BandHelper and midi over bluetooth to make all patch changes through a set. Patches live in a Master setlist, and any changes are made in a Testing setlist before saving back over the original.

I once postited the idea of an off-line tool to manage patch ordering for gigs here and got a resounding "why?" - so can only assume other have much better ways of doing this within HXEdit.

  12. I've had the syths be a little 'glitchy' but OK, especially for the sort of sounds you're after. Variax Standards into Helix via VDI.

I've used both a compressor and distortion as inputs into synth modules to even out the signal, and for the Cars sounds found the grittier input help get some of that sound.

I also find the bridge pick-up of either the lp or strat models to be the effective.

Getting a good synth sound has required a bit of mucking around with other effects and/or amps/cabs on/off to get them to sound decent.

Does anyone run an frfr powered speaker like headrush and 2 studio monitors together to achieve this.

That configuration no - my monitors in stereo is fin for studio use. For stage I use 2 PC+, generally each with a different amp/cab combination and some stereo effects of varying width. I play in a 3 piece its largely reverbs and delays to provide a more expansive sound. FoH takes a send from the XLRs and can choose to run them as 2 mono sends if required.

  14. Hi

I was going to say you can only use one device for input and output (like you have) and that you would need to be able to use your other USB devices explicitly as the output devices for Cubase to make this work.

However a quick search suggests using ASIO4all as the driver will allow this. https://forums.steinberg.net/t/using-two-audio-devices-one-for-input-one-for-output/642426/4

I'd much prefer to stick with OEM drivers, but that won't work in this use case.

    Good luck
