  1. I've tried it that way. Turned off all amp and cabs in DT and no mic for cab sim. L6 link Helix to DT, XLR back into the Mic in Helix. It was not a great idea. Got too much feedback as volume went up. Didn't spend a lot of time trying to figure it out, just got tired of messing with it. If somebody else wants to give it a try and report back that would be great. I'm kinda done with the DT until they actually get the integration completed.
  2. Does the Standard use a different cable to a JTV? I've been using with my JTV-69 for a couple of years now. First with HD500 and now with Helix.
  3. If you want a super cable, robust, doesn't kink, professional grade touring quality, check these guys out. http://btpa.com/98-030-004-XXX.html
  4. awesome! Definitely going to try them. Love the 3Sigma Friedmans too. Thanks! EDIT - just auditioned them and they sound fantastic. Great job! PS - What did you do with the 414mp/414np files? Much louder than the others.
  5. Pain in the butt. You need to install Workbench HD first so it can install the drivers for the USB connector. Make sure nothing is connected during this install. Next install latest Monkey. Follow all the instructions above and it should see your JTV. It will ask you which device you want to connect, the USB or the Tyler. Make sure you choose the Tyler. Lets get the Helix working with this now! Or better yet a set of HX models and new firmware for the JTV!
  6. not personally but in the FB group there are a few guys that really like the Behringer KXD-12. Not stereo but pretty much FRFR and 2 still cost less than the Roland. http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/KXD12
  7. in File Explorer select Details as the view type and right click in the header area. This brings up a list of categories you can display, select Titles and voila. Click and drag in the header area to rearrange the columns as desired. Yeah, interesting that it reads the Title rather than the file Name. I didn't know that, thanks!
  8. I'd love to check it out but I don't see the link??
  9. definitely add the FS3X 3 way footswitch for $40. Well worth it without jacking up the Helix. http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/FS3X
  10. It could be the cord if there was no hum previously on the same outlet. More likely its just a ground issue in the building wiring. Try a different outlet in a different room, try to get on a different circuit. Power cord is pretty simple, hard to get a bad one.
  11. you can also do this without an FX loop. set your pre FX and amp models in path 1, set the output to 1/4 and send that to the DT FX return. Bring the Rockcrusher direct out back in to the Helix Aux in and set path 2 input to Aux. Put all your post FX in path 2. If you want to use the L6 link, do the same thing but set path 1 output to Digital. You should configure the DT as I mentioned in other posts.
  12. I tried using Helix into DT25 with L6 link and then DT25 cab out (no cab) back into the Helix mic in and recorded over USB. I used a Minotaur into a US Deluxe Vib then split to two different 3Sigma Friedman cab IR's out to the DT25. I set the mic level to 30db in global and split the signal. One channel is dry amp tone, other channel has Adriatic Delay and 63 Spring Reverb. Set both outs to USB 3/4 and recorded in Tracktion 7. A lot easier than 4CM, just L6 to DT and XLR back to Helix. https://soundcloud.com/steve-bowley-1/dtintohelix
  13. its a fact the full amp models have much more character of the original than the preamp models. Seems you lose a lot with just the preamps. I do like being able to choose the class and topology to match with the DT though. How do the full amp models compare with proper DT configuration compared to the Spider?
  14. I've been having stupid fun since the day i got it...
  15. because you can change Stomp Footswitch Mode in Global Settings>Footswitches to "10 switches" so those switches work just like the other ones to control FX blocks or other parameters. Pg 43 in Helix manual DOH... never mind
  16. don't be afraid to use the cab blocks with your amp too. They definitely add their own flavor to the tone. I found that I have to boost the cab output to max 6db to match the level without a cab block or it sounds like a wet blanket.
  17. sorry, I went to see who voted it down and clicked it myself... DOH!
  18. There is some good tips here plus a link to a patch i made in CustomTone. https://www.facebook.com/groups/line6helixusergroup/permalink/537609666422711/
  19. here's my shot at creating it in Helix. Check it out and adjust as necessary. http://line6.com/customtone/tone/2139281/
  20. I found another way to do this at low cost. I used Cantabile Lite (free) which is a great VST host with low latency and very light CPU load connected by USB (Win10). Then load Valhalla Shimmer VST ($50, link below). There are lots of ways to configure it but if you send it on USB 3/4 on a separate path you can also keep your regular tone for further processing in Helix and just blend it all at the merge before final outs to the speakers. I can see a lot of applications for Cantabile in a live situation too. Just an idea... Cantabile - https://www.cantabilesoftware.com/ Valhalla Shimmer - https://valhalladsp.com/shop/reverb/valhalla-shimmer/ (Can probably use Mainstage on a Mac)
  21. Correct! It is helpful to recognize that the topology switch on the DT brings up a preconfigured "voicing" (amp/cab) rather than changing actual topology so I call it Channel A voice I,II,II etc and only use the term topology when actually configuring the amp settings for that voicing. With my setup if an amp needs Class AB, topo IV then I send it to Channel B voice IV. You get the idea...
  22. Once the DT is set up as I described, you only select the appropriate channel and voicing in the DT with midi from Helix, you aren't actually changing anything in the DT. Helix outputs are so different from the HD500 and are independently configurable. You can easily have a feed to the DT and a separate feed to FOH from Helix. If I didn't already have a DT I don't think I would buy one to use with Helix. There are other options like the Friedman, Matrix, Tech 21, a pair of good powered monitors or L2/L3 speakers. Helix really is good enough to stay FRFR completely. I'm just stubbornly trying to get the most out of the gear I already have.
  23. I've been working on my DT/Helix rig and really loving it. I set all voicings in channel A to Class A, topology I-IV, and Channel B to Class AB, topology I-IV, all no amp or cab. I use L6 link and one midi cable. I set up a setlist with all the amps and preamps with an instant midi command to select the correct channel and voicing for each amp. I don't care about using the DT standalone anymore, it's just for the Helix now. I am really puzzled by the huge swings in volume between the preamps and full amps. Some are close but others are way off. The Div/13 preamp is practically inaudible but the full amp cranks. I was hoping the preamps would be usable but so far I'm kind of drawn to the full amps. What I want to end up with is a set of templates that are volume leveled and ready to use with the DT to build my tones. I'd really like to hear from Line 6 official whether the full amp signal is too hot for the DT or not. I don't want to hurt anything playing around. For a small amp it sure can get awful loud but it does sound fantastic. The Supro in Class A topo III is so sweet... I haven't tried using the DT direct out back in to the Helix but I'm planning on it. Should be able to bring it back in and use it for the wet signal to the PA in stereo. Have to see whether the mic in the DT is OK or if I need to use Helix cabs or IR's (probably).
  24. I believe you are right on the DT50, it seems to be discontinued for sure. The DT25 however, seems to be still offered so hopefully that stays. I don't think they will release a new model with built in HX amp models but they have said better if not full integration with Helix is something they hope to offer. Guess it depends on how many other goodies they plan on pushing for the Helix. Mean time, my solutions work great and I really don't care if they integrate better at this point. If you are on the fence about getting one, make sure you understand it may end up a legacy product so you don't get disappointed...
