there is a mixer/interface called the Yamaha AG03/AG06 that I might get. It works really well for live streamers and worth watching a few videos what it can do. Seems like a great bit of kit. You can plug the helix and mic into it and run phone into and get audio happening from computer going back in to the mixer which the. Sends it to the other person.

I don’t know about the other tools - however I have an idea that as Zoom Rooms ( the app you can run on PC or proprietary hardware as a meeting room setup) appears to allow audio interfaces to be selected. However a Zoom Rooms license costs more than an individual license. Or of course the free version.  FYI I’ve tested this with the free and pro license so it’s not an audio issue only for the free version.

i use another video conferencing tool for work called Lifesize (a direct Zoom competitor) - and their app does accept Helix as an input interface!

I have managed to get it working by using a canle

from helix 1/4” output to PC line in.  Doesn’t sounds brilliant but it’ll do.  Thanks for this suggestion.

interestingly at work we use Lifesize video conferencing and their app can accept helix usb input fine.

i read a bit about Zoom Rooms and their support for interfaces and one they support is a Focusrite.

it might be possible that the Zoom app only allows interfaces that identify themselves from manufacturers that Zoom has configured to accept - or that assumption could be incorrect.

I thought that would be an option, but was trying to avoid it as it seemed the USB way should work.

as I mentioned earlier - I’ll likely use my iPhone dialled into the same Zoom call for my vocal

microphone (iPhone headset around my neck for mic pickup)

then Helix into my laptop and guitar is the input for the laptop calling into zoom, and my headphones from helix will monitor my guitar tone and also be the audio output from laptop on zoom call (so those headphones will also hear all other participants).

Hi dudes!

Me and a few chums are going to have a virtual guitar dual using Zoom during the UK COVID19 lockdown.  So as my kids will be asleep upstairs while this duel takes place I thought that instead of trying to mic up a real amp, using the helix via USB should mean I can have the guitar tone go straight into the zoom meeting with no risk of waking the kids :-)
however for some reason Zoom doesn’t like the Helix as an input device and I can’t seem to get an input in Zoom registering.

some other facts:

it’s the latest version of the zoom app on Windows 10 , and win 10 is up to date.

its the latest Helix FW and drivers.

Zoom output will work via USB to the helix and I can hear the zoom test tones out of my headphones connected to Helix.

zoom app works fine with my USB headset microphone and headphones.

helix usb input works fine into Reaper.

i realise that I’ll also need another device dialled into the same zoom meeting to capture my voice through another microphone - which I’ll likely do with my iphone.

I support other video conference tools as part of my job in IT so I’m not a noob with conference tools (although I’m not that experienced with Zoom).

anyone got any ideas why this doesn’t seem to work for me - when theoretically it should be awesome!!?? Is it perhaps that zoom doesn’t support ASIO devices as an input microphone but does support ASIO  for output devices.?

i need a bit of help.

back in the late 1990s when the POD bean first came out, I remember being wowed by a magazine review where the demo track was a rock riff using a rectifier amp sound from the original POD bean.  I seem to think it was 1997 or 1998 and in Guitarist or Total Guitar magazine here in the UK.

I’ve checked and confirmed that the original POD did in fact come out in 1997 so it seems logical that a demo/review would be in 1997 or 1998.

I’ve tried looking on eBay at all the monthly releases of those magazines from 97/98 but can’t see a mention on the CD or magazine front covers but I would like to buy the month with the demo - as I recall it was a bit of a revelation to me as a teenage guitarist.

does anyone have this actual magazine and can confirm what year/month it was so I can buy it on eBay.

I usually use an electricians screwdriver that's insulated. It's usually one of the ones with a test bulb in it so the tip is small enough to fit the trim.

Ideally yes to a balanced PI tube. However most none balanced tubes are close enough to not affect the sound.

All models of Spider V (30/60/120/240) have a 1/8" aux input that the manual says is for straight to the power amp connections. So yes you can connect a helix to a spider v. I would recommend a dual mono (L&R) 1/4" to single 1/8" stereo Y cable, and that should sort it out.

It'd be easy to find out what the speaker is in a spider v - take off the rear panel. I have a 120 and if I get the chance I'll find out.

Guest_WEROZ - what is it about the tone that you don't like. Usually line 6 use custom speakers because they then use speaker cab models. I wouldn't be surprised if the speaker is a cross between a PA driver and a guitar speaker, with the cab models dialed down a bit so as to hear a little real speaker tone too.... So you could always replace the speaker for something else.

Just some thoughts anyway.

There isn't a line output or anything like that. The only way would be to mic the amplifier 30 and feed that mic to your mixer.

I don't think you can do that. I think you'd need a pod hd, maybe hd500 or pro for that to run dual signal paths and you could pan each separate amp to left or right. Then use for example the amp and cab out of left XLR and amp only from analog right.

I should clarify that you would need to think about input impedance, so having the xtl in the helix loop would be best.

Some pods do have digital outputs and inputs, can't remember that the XT live had. I guess it's more the pro versions and helix that would have AES in/out ports.

Although don't forget that digital isn't everything. All audio you hear with your ears is analog, as is a guitar and a tube amp. Sure it's more ideal to use the least ad/da convertors as possible but analog out of your xtl to an analog input on another FX magic-box shouldn't give you any issues. I used to do it with POD HD500 and an M5!

I'm not sure the pod xt can output to a helix as the xt is expecting to see a PC or Mac driver at the other end of its USB connection.

I wouldn't say I've moved but I own both a Firehawk fx and helix. They're very different beasts, but if you like POD HD or Firehawk tones and flexibility then the helix is so good it's on another planet. More detailed amp Sims and fx (not that Firehawk and pod HD isn't also good though), very easy to use interface and endless routing options.

The TT would be seen as your USB sound card, and so any audio input or output would need to go through the TT, that's how Windows works with audio interfaces.

If you can connect your TT main outputs to your monitor with an audio cable that should work.

Here's a bit of help from the manual.

If using the amp out, only your guitar would be heard from the amp out and only Bluetooth audio via main outs.

If you disconnect amp out, the main outs would send guitar and Bluetooth.

Optical output would always send both, as would the headphone output.

Actually that was a typo. It should have read has been.

Seen the Android Amplifi remote app that was released last week - Ideascale is still well used by users and line 6 to steer products where enough users want something.

Have you checked the POD settings haven't been changed to not use the guitar input? To do this, hold the view button to see the system menu, and use the left and right buttons on the navigation pad to the right of the screen to scroll to page 3 of the menu, and ensure input 1 and 2 sources are set correctly. Input 1 I would suggest include guit + aux + variax.

If this doesn't help, I suggest backing up all your customised presets and setlists using line 6 edit for hd500x. Then reinstall the latest firmware using line 6 monkey, do a global reset and exp pedal calibration (search for the procedure, as L6 has a knowledgebase article on these).

See if that does the trick.

If you still have issues I suggest opening a support ticket with Line 6.
