  1. The HD WB was implemented in FW 2.20.00. The driver that makes it work without interfering with the Helix editor app was updated for FW 2.21.00. Take a look at the L6 download section for a timeline.

Also make sure you have nothing using midi channel 16, as that is the communication path that the Variax/VDI/Helix/USB/computer/HD WB uses for 2 way communication, and how HD WB senses that the Variax is connected,....

    Dave

im using 2.21fw. nothing using midi channel 16

  2. hi guys, just picked up my variax again after a month or 2 (got a new strat), and workbench isnt connecting. not sure what to do guys. ive try unplugging the vdi cable, turning off and on the helix. rebooted computer. it was working after the update to make it work with helix. now its not working.

    please help guys

  3. I doubt you'll get that bright, scratchy sound of the tele, it's just very unique.  Maybe if you have .9's on your strat you might come close.  I have both a strat and a tele and I use them each for different sounds.  But then I have .10's on my Strat.

With a Strat I'd still go with either the Bassman or the HiWatt with a bit of drive added, definitely not a fuzz.  I'd probably still use either and SM57 or MD421 mic on an OwnHammer 2 x 12 closed back Celestion Blue cab but probably just the thin or balanced IR version for the strat.

thx man yeh i think a tele is the way to go

  4. Hopefully you play a Tele because it's going to be a stretch getting that sound without it.

There's a couple of ways I might approach this with my Tele.  Probably I'd start with the Bassman and if that wasn't right I'd go to the HiWatt.  I might actually try a Vox cabinet or any 2 x 12 that's a celestion blue.  I think I'd be using a Celstion IR 2 x 12 closed back version either the dark or balanced mix.  Probably an SM57 or Sennheiser mic, but definitely some form of standard guitar dynamic mic.  I don't think he's using anything more than just the drive on the amp...no fuzz.  It's not a particularly heavy amount of drive, but just enough to be consistent at full volume on the guitar backed off slightly on the bridge tone knob.  As someone else mentioned there's a lot of compression on this so I'd start with the Red Squeeze as it's the easiest to get that type of compression.

But you're going to be quite frustrated getting that type of sound without a Tele similar to his which looks to me like it's using the noiseless pickups.  I'm actually thinking he's using one of the new Tele Elites which are using 4th generation noiseless pickups.

reckon a strat would be ok?

  5. I am wondering if I were to plug an external pedal into the expression port an assigned it to a gain block, would it work in looper mode? Gonna have to try this weekend at some point.

i control my looper level with a expression pedal in looper mode

  6. Thanks Sonny, yes my Custom IR's make all the difference. You know you can use any of my IR's in any of your existing patches too. You might be surprised at the results. Just to be clear, my custom "Sound Imprint" IR's are NOT Cab Impulse responses but more of a "Tone Imprint" of an Artist tone or Amplifier Simulation I'm trying to capture. Just wanted to throw that out there for clarification.

Thank you guys so much for your continued support and kind words of encouragement. Most of all, Thank you LINE 6 for creating such incredible products!!

    See you at NAMM!!!! ;-)

whenever i try and use your ir;s with an amp, it sounds off. how do you use them? do i need to use a cab plus your ir?. seems like a waste of dsp to me. fremens ones dont do that

  7. I could make a few but I really want to make a new pack that will include not only this but all the other stuff and tricks I discovered since I released the first one

if u were to replace the litigator amp with an amp in one of the bigpack patches, which patch would u do it on. and how would you set the amp. what settings for the litagator.

  8. Yes exactly same as above. Here's s pic. As you can see the chorus is selected but the icon on the screen is not lit up. Seems to be random and as you cycle through some blocks it fixes itself. Dial up the "say it ain't so" patch in factory 2 and see if you get the same results.

this guys. theres gotta be something we can try. help !!!!!

  9. I think he means that the FX block on the Helix signal flow display is not lighting up to reflect that the FX has been turned on by the footswitch. He is not talking about the FX being selected for editing with its parameters shown below the signal flow.

Normally when a block is turned on/off by a footswitch its icon is shown in the Helix signal chain display as lit (on) or dark (off). I think this is what is not happening for him.

this guys. it seems to be random. i think when i make new patches it doesnt glitch. but using fremen presets it glitches

  10. Not sure if this is the issue, but for stomp switches that switch more than one block, each switch has a "current" block, and the light is on when that current block is on. You can cycle the current block setting through each of the blocks the switch affects by touching it, not pressing it. You'll see the current block highlight in the flow diagram.

If this is happening with switches that control only one block, I don't know what's going on, never had that happen. Some people have a switches become unreliable, but that means it doesn't actually switch anything, which you're saying it does, just doesn't light up. Right?

ya only controlling one block. if i touch the switch with my finger it will light up. it happens with the new factory presets and with the fremen big pack presets
