  1. One thing I noticed when restoring patches is that sometimes patches that use a footswitch controller to toggle one block on and another off will end up having the switch incorrectly lit. For example, I use a volume block and univibe in the same patch, both using EXP 1. The FS is labeled UniVibe because that's it primary function. The volume block is then the default operation when the univibe is off. When I restored the patches, the FS was displaying the state of the volume block, not the univibe. To fix this, just touch the FS a couple of times until it is displaying the univibe block. The FS will now show the right state. Save the patch and all is well.

this is happening to me. and its annoying. i dont want to make all my patches again

  2. Any decent isolated power supply should do the trick.  There are cheap ones on Amazon and Ebay that claim to be isolated but many actually are not. If noise is the issue you probably want to make sure you get one that is actually isolated. Here are some of the ones available from Sweetwater.  http://www.sweetwater.com/store/search.php?s=Isolated+Power+Supply

Note: There is also a Ground Lift switch on the Helix that can sometimes help.

just picked up a Truetone 1 Spot Pro CS7 Isolated Pedal Power Supply. thx for the help!

  3. This is something to bear in mind  and i've reported it to Line6 as a bug/problem

I've been enjoying working thru the presets and came to Pull Me Under.

i've been using the HELIX Mac 1.0 USB driver for a while now with no problems.  I was playing backing tracks via iTunes from my 2011 iMac ( El Capitan latest ) into the HELIX via USB.

All was fine until I selected the preset  Pull Me Under - which must be using a lot of DSP power.

When using the preset by itself - no issues. but as soon as i tried playing a track o iTunes along with it - got lots of noise and crackles.

Switching to a different patch ( a Fremen one ) made all the crackles go away.

same here. that's the one preset of fremens i hate because i cant use it because of what u said above. it craps a bigone each time i try and use it. and what sux is ive heard him ue it and its sounds so good! cant complain though 174 of them work brilliantly.

  4. hey guys i wonder if i could ask for some help. im looking to safely power these pedals for use in the loops with helix. TC flashback x4 - Jamman solo xt- TC polytune 2 mini, and a digitech bad monkey.. thats just what i had before i got the helix , so i wanted to save dsp, by using them. atm the tc flashback is being used just as a guitar input - not turned on (when in the loop its got massive noise when on ) the other 3 i can live with but they all have there own power supplies because if i try and daisy chain anything it shiznits itself with noise.

im looking to get some kinda of pedal power thing to make everything play nice. but i have no clue where to start. im hoping someone out there has these pedals and uses with helix. helix floor btw

    thanks guys much appreciated

  5. Hey guys!!

Been following this one as I have been working on a Superstition Cover by The Hoax.

These helped a little... but perhaps different guitar.

I feel stupid for asking but if anyone feels so inclined I would love a break down of each parameter.

    I assume:

Q - how sharp a frequency spike its going to hit.

    Sensitivity - pick attack/dynamics?

Attack - hmmmm.. above? How quick the filter reacts

Decay - how quick it stops reacting?

Frequency - Where the center (median) of the Q is going to sit

Frequency Depth - How how high the Q/frequency curve sits on the y axis

Direction -    x vs -x on the graph?

    Gain?

for gain i just left it alone 18db,

if u get 1 of the settings wrong it wont work how u want.

dunccan would be better help i just used his settings with variax standard neck ph

    amp is british p-75 nrm

with the fremen bigpackir no.87-lxtdr marshall 1

with a 10 band graphic eq after the ir

sounds really close to guthries. even better mabey

no need to buy a duck in a box now :)

  6. so does that mean you WERE plugged into a 3.0 jack at the time of posting this? just curious.

yup. usb audio is fine on the usb3.0, its just when u use the helix editor it sometimes crapped itself. but it hasnt crapped out yet using the usb2. the right usb2, my pc has sooo many ports i think some are hubs mabey

  7. ...which has me wondering. If you are connected to the Helix via a VDI cable, the Helix receives a digital signal even if you are using the magnetics. Or, you can connect like a normal guitar: analog output via 1/4" cable to Helix. So where is the A-to-D done in each case? I am assuming:

magnetics via Variax cable: Variax A/D --> Helix processing --> Helix D/A --> out

    magnetics via 1/4": Helix A/D --> Helix processing --> Helix D/A --> out

Will one get a different sound with the magnetics using the VDI cable vs using 1/4". If you assume the A/D circuitry in the Helix is better than that in the Variax, using 1/4" would be best (although more prone to noise).

    Is this a fair assumption?

ive got a variax standard plugged in through vdi, and an ibanez shred machine into the guitar input. i only use these 2 guitars so its great i can just pickup whatever guitar i want, and the patches stay the same , but u can tell when im not using the ibanez. because it doesnt sound like an ibanez. plus the hot single coils on the variax makes the level more even as well.

sorry for ramblng and im not even sure i answered you lol

  8. its been said many times....start by ensuring the patch has the same volume with blocks turned on as with blocks turned off.  This sets the Chan Volume about right.

    also...

Why is this question of patch leveling always asked when its no different to having a big analog pedal board,,,you still have to level out each pedal so whats different??

ive never owned a real pedal board.. but this is how i do it on helix as well. channel vol first then make sure nothing clips when u add a pedal to the chain. then turn it on and off and see if theres any volume jump with a db meter

  9. I've seen the topic of patch normalization of presets and volumes come up from time to time. I struggle with this myself just going by ear. I tend to get off a bit as I level out patch by patch. This could also help us standardize levels for each other on Custom Tone.

Are there some standard guidelines and methods for normalizing the levels of patches? What are some good tools to use (level/dB meters, apps, utilities, etc.)?

Maybe there are just some common audio engineering practices that can translate over to Helix and processors in general.

I would say I am mainly interested in a full, end-to-end signal path scenario with cabs/IR blocks to PA or recording interface.

i learnt recently that the channel volume is supposed to be used for leveling. i had been using the level of the ir or cab

i still use both but it helps to know the channel vol on amps dont change the tone

  10. As Amsdenj said...i would just drop the 3.0 connection completely if thats where youre plugged in. I had no trouble with mine until i plugged in to the 3.0 jack.

thanks man . i have like 10 usb ports on the back of this pc. but i hadnt tryed them all (lazy), its going well so far 3 hours in. if it stays on all day ill post results

  11. Snapshots would solve that easily enough. But differences between guitars would likely be minimal anyway.

However, having the same exact fingers from day to day could produce greatly varied quacks. Not so easy to fix that.

thankyou so much buddy for taking the time. i seriously was close to buying a wahrocker 5, but u saved me some cash.

i knew the helix could do what i wanted. its just if u get one of those settings wrong it recks the whole thing. now i have some great settings to stArt with. they should have made your settings the default lol

  12. I take back what I said above about using the band pass mode. High pass seems to work better for this type of quack. For Q, the higher it is the more pronounced the effect, so a fairly high Q would be good, maybe even max. A fairly high sensitivity as well, around 8. Attack around 100ms, decay 350ms, frequency 225Hz, freq depth 2.0KHz, direction up, and mix 100%. It's close using a clean amp tone. But that's for my guitar and pickups. The settings for your guitar might be slightly different.

Just post the link, but links using a specific start time (...youtu.be...) won't work. It has to be youtube.com for it to embed in the post.

thanks man!!!! ive got it :)

  13. Something like this?

It seems to me that a lot of what you're hearing with this is his playing technique, so if you can get close the technique demonstrated it might be easier to get similar results with Helix by using either the autofilter or mutant filter. Just play around with the settings for either and eventually you'll stumble across something that might be acceptable. You'll probably want to keep the mode on band pass. Both autowahs in Helix produce similar results but the autofilter has more flexibility by exposing more settings, so give that one a try. Also, you'll probably want to have this block located somewhere before the amp.

thats the one. what is the mix do u think? 50% what about the filter Q?

  14. hey guys i just saw guthrie govan use a wah rocker 5 autowah wah. can we make this sound with the filters in the helix? because ive been trying for days i cant get anything i like
