  1. *EDIT* JUST AFTER POSTING THIS I FIGURED IT OUT... I DID A FACTORY RESTET THEN EXECUTED THE BACKUP AND IT WORKED. 

    HELP! I followed all the directions to a "T", and still got screwed... I updated to 3.1 and now HX EDIT wont execute my back up; it stops in the middle of the back up with an error message "Failed to get favorite names/Timeout waiting for a response from device (CODE- 8212) and Error occurred during the restore: Time out waiting for a response from device...

     Now my Helix is wiped clean, and I cannot get my back up. WTF!!!

      oh SWEET!  That's great news!

       

      No problem - at the very least it's handy stuff to keep in an email somewhere.

      of course I see your "backup" file in your screenshot - so never midn the "do you have a backup" quesiton.

       

      Are you trying my ideas?  I'm trying to help you out...

       

       

      OH and if you're on a mac, that can be a problem too.  macs seem to keep old versions of hx edit and due to how the OSX filesystem links filenames to executables, it can actually get confused because line6 doesn't put version numbers in their filenames.

       

      So sometimes it helps to delete the old hx edit installer (look in downloads or similar, or search entire drive for them in temp or other locations, you'll have to google that part yourself), delete completely (including empy trash), adn then redownload 3.01.0 and try installing again.

      Uh oh!  Well unfortunately I'm not a support guy - just an end user and beta tester, and experienced guy.

       

      Also I don't have my helix hardware with me in this location so I can't check the steps.  I appreciate you asking though.

       

      BUT I'll try to help:

      First questions (sorry if you already answered some of this):

      - had you successfully backed up your helix first?  (if you had any custom patches worth remembering)

      - did you use hx edit or line6 updater for the 3.01.0 update?

      - the update was from 3.0.0 to 3.01.0, correct?

       

      Now, my standard (and generally correct) recommendation to reinstall firmware is to unplug helix from computer usb, restart computer, restart helix, plug helix usb into a DIFFERENT usb port on your computer, and hopefully it will see it (after a bit), will see it has incomplete or out of date firmware and will ask you to update it, and it will "just work" with the usb change and restarts before.

       

      Another possibility - your helix DID update but the patches got lost.  If so then there are various button combinations you hold down when restarting your helix to set it up to rebuild patches, restore them from backup, or what not.  It could simply be that the fw got updated but the device connection died before the patches got restored from your pc backup, or if the connection died to pc it might simply have interrupted the "rebuild presets" procedure.

       

      Here are the reset button combinations for you to try:  But button numbers are in two rows:
