  1. I used my Epiphone with acoustic pickup and sounded crap..Variax 700 on acoustic setting..clear as a bell
  2. ha ha...we'll get world peace first
  3. I think I added before, updated my Axe to 11.00,but before the week was out it was on 11.03, yeah it improves but still a pain sometimes as patches are affected, most good but some bad. Firmware updates..be careful what you wish for!
  4. ha ha 'Yes' outdated..! They will still be rocking when Bieber is doing rehab reality shows!
  5. No disrespect to ya mate, but I have an Axe 2 as well as the MFC, compared to my HD500, we are talking night and day, nothing wrong with buying on a budget, and the HD is a superb piece of gear. But saying it's overpriced is the same as me asking you what guitars you have. A Fender or a copy? a Gibson or a copy? It is for pro musicians, have you seen prices for 59 Les Paul? How about Eventhide effects? Of course hype is involved, but the sound is non negotiable. Bet your life you own a quality instrument rather than a £99 copy which probably looks as nice, but I don't know for fact. Not going to go into ins and outs of Axe but, it sounds like a true amp straight out of the box, yeah I know we can tinker with the HD and most people get awesome sounds, but how much time do we all have? I can comment cos I also have GT 100, VG 99, GR 55, HD500, all good value at what they cost, but if £3,000 which is not for everyone's pocket, it is very pricey, firmware updates are regular and sounds are always improving. I earn from my band so get the money invested in gear back anyway but lol!!! Wouldn't miss meals to buy it!
  6. I'll be controversial in that okay 'imho' as stated, but truth be told as an avid lover of players EVH, Jake E Lee, Blackmore, Rhoads, Lifeson, Sambora, fed up with people who play and expect these pedals to be aimed at purely them, I still adore these players but know that players into jazz, Nile Rodgers, blues, pop, reggae, soul and which some of who are great players don't moan about hijacking a product only for own needs, I know we all want a 100W Marshall, variac with a flange retro modern detune drop C, but some some go on as if overdrive and distortion is the only requirement on a pedal. Line 6 cater to all musicians, yeah as I said before I'm always searching for tone, but before they give another version, is your EQ spot on? Can you pinch harmonic on a clean setting? The versions provided are not perfect, but ample, if I want the Michael Jackson Smooth Criminal setting, is that in the mix, or Lifeson's flanger in Jacob's Ladder, maybe not but another amp probably won't be the answer! I'm still trying to find the Angus Young Powerage tone, but many hate distortion and don't need another saturated metal amp, that some one hit wonder played in 1990. Line 6 must read these forums and laugh, they will never please everyone, I've played for 20 years and never heard of some of these amps!
  7. "Add an AFD 100 thats on par with amplitubes" No offence mate, but I've said a million times before, everyone wants their own amp of choice included, Line 6 have picked most classics, and left a few, maybe Orange being a major one, it's a multi modeller not a " choice of heavy metal pedal", they can't win, but yeah I agree, I bought this on the strength that they update firmware, that was in my decision making. To say we souldn't expect is wrong. I also have Axe 2 and they update nore than I wash my hair!
  8. Only in the last week have I had the time to update from facry preset of I think 6.0 to 11.00 on Axe...In the last week alone it is 11.03! I smile when I read about more firmware updates on the HD500, yeah the Axe and MFC out the box totally blow away anything but that's what £3,000 should probably do, Out the box, the sound is unrivalled but the learning curve, and options really beg to ask, should one be programming or playing the instrument? 96 amps most of which are in the hard gain to total facemelt metal, Honest truth I can dial sounds all day, but it's the audience who say what to them is good on the ear and what is worth 3K. Every pedal has it's place, and the HD500 does a superb job. I'm lucky in that I get paid to play, so having HD500, GT 100 and Axe probably means I will have it all, and master none of them. The wy technology is going I reckon it's only a matter of time before the Axe floor unit is released anyway, so everybody will have to up the game, to stay in the market
  9. My pedals and guitars are tools for me, I throw them if I get a mood, but my Hd and Boss GT are imaculate, even travelling gig to gig, ironically just bought a soft Gator case which fits my GT and HD...ha ha Axe FX 2 though is in nuclear proof case..should be at money it cost. Get a soft Gator case mate, mine was about £20
  10. Small touch of Chorus is good too, my band cover Get Lucky and Le Freak, also do Notorious by Duran, so I am well qualified in Le Funk! Oh and Move like Jagger Yeah depends Le Freak is neck pickup but Notorious and typical funk is between neck and middle single coil to get the 'pluck' funk sound. But sompressor is a must to accentuate the plectrum pluck that disco and funk have.
  11. Agree with you all on this, just bought a GT 100 this week to see if amp modelling can compare ( a week in and resounding...NO! ), but first post is interesting, I've had three versions of GT, Boss know that pretty much whatever is thrown out onto the market, loyal customers will buy in the hope that what was good will now be great, what was great will now be awesome. Line 6 are no different. From their perspective and if you read the 'wishlists', to please everyone the next update will include about 250 amp models and a thousand tweaks to EQ, connection, effects, and DSP. People can't help but see it from selfish view, I've seen amps on the wishlist that I have never heard of, and my taste goes from Riannha to Rush, EVH to Oasis people will always be disappointed. LIne 6 can't win either way, but the honest truth is owning three previous GT, GR20, GR55, VG99 and zero updates, I am grateful for what comes along ( my wishlist is the Tea Chest bass sound used in skiffle..ha ha see what I mean ? ) Peace
  12. Great guide mate, I've been around a bit and that is a superb little guide,,cheers
  13. Strange mate..I ran through EV powered monitors and all I got was bottom end. Sound is better through Mackie powered. I stopped writing patches through headphones and listened to the guys here and do them lud at home. Sometimes during soundcheck. You'd be surprised how guitar pickups also influence the patches you download pickups from 7K to 19K, some bassy some too much treble. Answer here is mate is that you got to keep plugging away, also the deep amp settings though tedious to use make a big difference. Good luck mate, I've had mine for six months and still get moody when I download a customtone that is rated 5, only to find it sounds crap on my setup. You gotta put the hours in mate..
  14. I used a Roland KC but it sounded like a lollipop
  15. Shame if its true..but might actually get to learn to use my Ax Fx 2!
  16. watching this thread carefully because that exactly my proble..we play from U2, Van Halen, The Killers, Elvis, George Michael and that only a few of the 170 songs and artists I cover. Easy to say use clean or treadplate, but do the Killers use same distorion as EVH, Sambora or the Edge? And what about Brian May? That is simplyfying distortion and O/D which we all know is hard to patch in for one artist let alone 50! Does the clean of Nile Rodgers sound the same as BB King? Same for effects Yeah buddy don't fret cos I have the same problem with volume, trouble is..most of the people here are right. It's a case of keeping it simpler. I used to have a patch per song with my Boss GT-10 but it killed me. Going downstairs to get on it, loads of gigs coming up and little time to play with patch volumes, cos its never ending. But love the HD500 anyway!
  17. I'll have a look but honest mate, I can't remember. Just remember downloading a custometone, taking gain off and adjusting bass and treble. Not perfect, but I probably could have taken any like Led Zep, or blues patch. Not really happy but I didn't search for ages. Just found one warm enough without too much gain. I think it uses Treadplate. But after renaming it, can't remember mate. Sorry! Good luck though
  18. strange you mention but we recently had to learn Hard to Handle..can't remember patch used but it was heavier than what I needed, tweaking ruined it, so used it as it was. Problem being going from rythmn to solo..patch didn't cover it. But still useable.
  19. I agree mate, try Jake E Lee! Had to search Ozzy, song titles, zak, zakk!!, black sabbath, jake e lee..I know what you mean
  20. many thanks to all replies..i only use the variax for acoustic or the odd strat sound. I'll check it out
  21. I use the variax sparingly, but as I use the variax lead into the HD500 to not use battery, does this effect my other guitar sound. I thought not until recently live onstage, I noticed a dip in the volume from my main guitar, I thought I would test it during sound check. I keep the Variax plugged to change quickly between guitars.
