Just to be clear....

With the Helix powered off, you are still hearing the noise from your Marshall when the Marshall's FX Return is connected to, either, the Helix's 1/4" FX Send or 1/4" Main Outs?

In the above scenario (with the Helix powered off), have you tried removing the Helix's AC power cord (from the main power strip or the Helix's AC port) to see if the noise?

After absolutely confirming that there is no Ground Loop (even with the Helix off and unplugged from the AC Mains) I would next suspect a faulty cable between the Helix and the Marshall.

Thanks for your help. I have a Keeley pedal compressor and I put it in series with the Helix and Marshall. I turned the compression setting to minimum and turned the gain control down, it got rid of the noise. I think I need to attenuate the input level of the Marshall, just turning down the patch volume makes the patch quieter but I think there's just too much gain on the Marshall return and its boosting up the noise floor of the Helix outputs. I figure it's a bit like turning up the amp to full and rolling back your guitar volume, not recommended. I'm Going to rig up a simple pot in a box, put it between the two and see what happens. I'll post the results!

Hi all. I have a Marshall DSL40c valve amp and I connected a send from my Helix to the amp's FX return. It's very noisy, hum, hiss and digital noise. I've tried all the usual ground loop stuff to no avail. I have a Kemper and this works fine with this amp. Setting line level or instrument level on the Helix sends makes no difference and I'm using an empty patch. Main outs have the same issue. Even with the Helix turned off the noise is still there. I suspect this is an impedance issue, there is a missmatch between the two and the amp input needs some additional matching and loading.

Try out the Behringer KXD12 !!!

 

I tweaked the EQ of the KXD12 at 140hz and could use all my patches i made with my headphones.

 

The KXD12 sounds realy great, warm, clear and bright! I was realy blown away! I bought a second one and play stereo!

 

You can hear that its made of wood and not plastic as some FRFR monitors. The amp is small but the wight is 18,3 kg.

 

The english Turbosound speaker ist great. Sounds and feels like an guitar amp.

 

After using two DT25 Heads with cab, some different FRFR monitors I now found what I was looking for.

 

I have one of these too. They're really good and bridge the gap between PA cab and guitar cab. Very reasonably priced, well worth auditioning.

I suggest you open a support ticket now. It's likely that no one can confirm this behaviour because it's not normal.

 

While awaiting a response to your ticket, I suggest you (re)read the documentation on Snapshots to make sure you understand how to work with them and what behaviour you should expect after each operation you do.

I figured out what I was doing wrong with some help from TGP forum, You have to go into the Controller Assign tab first, select the parameter and assign it to Snapshots. Thanks silverhead for your support!

That seems odd. First step in troubleshooting: Close the editor (Helix app) and power cycle both your computer and the Helix device.

 

If that doesn't fix things reinstall the Helix app/editor.

 

The try using different usb ports on your computer.

 

If all of the above fails open a support ticket.

Thank you for your suggestions. I tried all of the above, I made a very simple test patch and still have the problem. Can anyone else confirm this behaviour before I open a ticket? 

Upper left corner you will see the snapshot pull down. It's there all the time. Just change to what you want and save. I haven't figured out how to change the snapshot name in the editor yet but I am sure it's easy also. It is so easy on the device that I have been doing it there.

Thanks, I've tried this but it's not saving parameter changes like amp gain or eq settings, it only seems to save on/off states.

I have exactly the same problem, been trying to figure it out for the last two hours!

Put a belting patch together tonight using the Fern A30 and J45 Amp+cab amps. Used a comp, eq, stereo delay and reverb. Sounded great but couldn't add anything else, the DSP was maxed. I understand the limitations and the manual refers to how all the different amps and effects make variable use of the DSP, but are there any guidelines on the DSP demands? Which amps and effects use the most DSP and which the least? Some insight would be very useful.

This is probably a dumb question, I assume you can't add a block somewhere in the the chain and shuffle everything down a slot automatically? I do this every time a build a patch where I want to add something at the beginning and have to move everthing along one, though I would of learned to leave spaces by now!

My 150 has the hum problem when connected to the FBV Express MKii. Getting it to a service centre is a massive issue for me and I also have health mobility problems. I have my own electronics business and we have extensive capabilities, anyone able to provide details of the mod so we can do it ourselves? Just crazy I have to drive miles to get this sorted. I know this will void the warranty but I can live with that. Any help and the usual disclaimers greatfully accepted. Thanks!

I guess what you are hearing is the stereo effects without the straight guitar signal. The stereo would probably be created by phase inversion or filtering hence why it sounds weird. So some summing is going on when a jack is inserted into the headphone socket, that's probably the end of that then. Can't believe to get the Amplifi into a PA with the speakers on it has to be mic'd and how do you mic a 5 speaker full range amp? Oh dear.......

I did this modification - installing a stereo jack in parallel to the headphone out - so that I could route the signal to a keyboard amp without disconnecting the Amplifi speakers and have both amps on. It works for music played via Bluetooth or the aux in but for some reason the guitar signal doesn't go through. I suspect that when the headphone jack is used it not only disconnects the speakers but it also re-configures the output circuitry to include the guitar in the mix. I may explore the circuit some more but for now I think there's probably no way around that. Just in case anyone is wondering, the internal guitar speaker in the Amplifi 75 is a 15W 4 ohms "custom designed" speaker.

 

Please keep us up to date on what you find. Not having an output to the PA is a major oversight on this product for me. There may also be a way to achieve this mod by taking a feed from the speaker through a resistor network, but as there is more than one speaker this may also be not that straight forward. I would have a look myself but mine has to go back to Line 6 because noise it makes when an FBV Express is connected. It's all very frustrating and the Line 6 service centre is over an hours drive for me. What hacks me off is I run an electronics manufacturing company, I could do all this work myself if I just had a schematic!

It's unlikely but as I have 150 I can't answer your question for sure. What I can tell you is that there is considerable latency in Bluetooth so even if you were able to connect headphones, the delay in the audio while playing guitar over the connection would probably make it unworkable.

Lots of pros use drive pedals with amps to resolve this problem. The tube screamer with the drive set low is a popular choice but in actual fact what the pedal is doing is also reducing the bass content in the guitar signal. Try this, add the eq boost pedal in front of the amp, reduce the bass content until the fuzziness in the bass notes cleans up. Add the bass back into the tone post the amp with the parametric eq.
