  1. I have a 240. It gets up there. I use post eq and add a few db. Some good youtube videos explaining how to use post eq with Spider V.
  2. Been fine with tablets or phones. App cuts out from time to time. An app should not brick your phone. Coincidental timing maybe? I've rooted phones and tablets and ran this app on emulators and never bricked anything.
  3. Sometimes the Expression VOL is assigned and that can mean no volume from the preset. My 240 I have to rock the pedal when I grab the G10 transmitter after it was in the front panel. Most of the time when I have had modelers that go to no sound, I often check the expression pedal settings. Volume at 0 will create no output. Just something to check. Seems very weird you have 2 units doing the same thing after a firmware download. I used the Line 6 Updater with my computer to get 1.04 and it worked fine.
  4. Mine's plenty loud with stock speakers. I did talk to a couple guys that replaced the V120 speaker with an Eminence Legend and another with a WGS Vintage. They said they louder speakers. Hard to say without hearing the difference myself. I imagine they have to have a work around fo cab modeling using those.
  5. They are probably wanting to delay going to 7 due to so many app makers not updating their apps and reports of apps not working in 7. Give them time to catch up.
  6. See if the Expression pedal settings set to 0 when you loaded the FW. If the drum and guitar loops work, it has to be something odd in the settings. Very odd that it happens on both units.
  7. Yeah I'd go that direct USB route as well. Apps are based on ISP's and routers and other things. Using the app and cut outs you can live with, using that app to update firmware? That is asking for problems that are often hard for the mfg or service co to determine. They are not on your home network and associated equip. I had a car that went just beyond the mfg warranty and then poof, problem with coolant sys and trannny cooling sys. I could only have wished that failed while in mfg warranty. My mother had a Westinghouse TV from Best Buy. Out of mfg warr, but in the extended warr she bought. Expired in Oct this year. Tv died recently. They couldn't fix it. Ext warranty gave her unit value plus taxes when she bought it initially. Was given full purchase price credit. She bought a much nicer TV for the same cost since LED Tv's came down drastically in the last 4 years.
  8. I have no problem keeping up with loud drummers with my 240 combo. It's not 240 watts, more 120 watts for each channel (stereo amp). Not a simple thing to compare power ratings of amps. Design specs are unique. Loudness figures are based more than just power. I have a 1600w monitor 12" cab that isn't nearly as loud as a Yamaha DBR10 monitor that is rated less than half of the other one, and has a smaller speaker. My 240 can get louder when I add the Eq too. I learned that a few months ago. Another important part is when you have the FBV3 connected and get no sound, or put G10T in to charge you may get no sound when you go to use it again. Press the FBV expression pedal up and down for the sound to come back. It's like it mutes or something. Maybe that was by design to not get noise from system when charging the G10T?
  9. I have better luck on touch screen with Ami Duos emulator for Windows 10. Only $10 basic version. Tried the new Ami Dous version Lollipop $15 and the Spider V Remote App comes up saying not compatible. Still trying to figure that out. Amplifi app does not report that error. May be something in the emulator.
  10. These units have warranty. That is a good thing. You want the amp to go during the warranty period. You want your tv or newer cars to fail in the warranty period. Odds are better to not have recurring problems once the repairs are made. Line 6 fixed my POD HD500 when it went out. Took shipping time, 3 days to fix and shipping return time. That piece runs solid. If they exchange your amp under warranty, that is awesome.
  11. That can be the nature of updating. These are amplified computers basically. Our other guitarist updating his new FenderGT bricked. Reconnected and reloaded the firmware sent to him from Fender and it worked. Many reported similar problem. Maybe file was corrupting via Bluetooth update process. I also have had big downloads that corrupted. My Slate sotware was very buggy, not loading. They said to re download the sware, I did and it was ok. Try the things support asks of you, report back to them. That way they can track fixes, bugs and other issues. You won't get much support here on the forums from the factory guys. They are best when contacting customer support or creating a support ticket. Check with your dealer too, they should be able to do exchanges within their return time frame.
  12. Do you have the FBV connected? Try disconnecting and see if sound comes back. If it does, just rock the expression pedal on the FBV and see if that brings the audio back.
  13. You can try taking the eq gain levels down on the Low and High shelf. If you need the tone thicker, select the Low Mid Freq at about 450, gain of 2 or 3. High mId Gain take down to about 3. It's going to be different with the 8" speaker than it is in 12" speakers which have more bottom end by design. That was a setting I used for Californication
  14. Part of the problem with those settings is not using the modeling properly. Setting a real P45 like that would be a dull tone for me anyway. Try: Drive 8, Bass high, Mids 7 or 8, Treble 8. Vol up high. Add slight compression but try to use the amp for the distortion unless you use distortion for a clean boost. Next part I use is the EQ after the Amp and Cab. It's just marked EQ. That EQ is a parametric type. You can get creative with it. You can use it to push the amp modeling. Spider V use extended range speakers from what I read. Use the EQ after the amp to dial back in the sound you want from the speaker. Using the Spider V 30 watt version you have to be more creative than those with a 60 120 or 240 version. That 8" speaker is more limited, so you may have to work more to get the low end you seek. It's going to be more of a compromise. I suggest start with the post EQ on. Set something like this: Low Shelf- 450 Low Shelf Gain- pretty high. Around 6-8 Low Mid Freq- 2.5K Low Mid Gain- -1 Hi Mid Freq- 3.8K Hi Mid Gain- 7 maybe less for your amp Hi Shelf Freq- 4.5K Hi Shelf Gain- 5 maybe lower. For RHCP's I use the guitar volume control often. Go from just a broken up tone to a slightly more overdriven sound by using the guitar volume for dynamic. If its too bright, use your tone control mid way or use the 2 and 4 positions of the guitar pickup selector.
  15. Mustang Series do have editors for computers. Newer GT Mustangs have mobile editors, but Fender said expect a PC editor soon. That made those new owners happy. Vox's new unit has PC, Mac, Android and iOS. Blackstar has computer editors. I read Marshall gave the API to users that created their own editor for Win and Mac. Might have been the guys at VG forum. I'm not sure. The same group VG forum are the ones just killing it recently with Katana amp and doing 10x for that group of users than Boss is. There was a thread here months ago where programmers offered to create a Win Mac editor for the Spider V lineup. Nothing came of it. Developers for GSP1101 created mustbe beta unofficial firmware for that product and added new features and the biggest feature of IR loading options. That unit remained a huge seller many years past the expected shelf life. Unofficial firmware and editor support made that unit really great. Previous Spider IV's had Pc and Mac editors. No mobile connection so no mobile app. Mobile apps started with Amplifi and Firehawk. Those are Bluetooth. Spider V Remote will be what it is. Over 1000 app downloads so far at Google Play. App given just over 3 rating. That's about the same sentiment. All it takes is reading those reviews, retail site reviews, and over 1/3 of them are not very glowing. 100's of votes at Ideascale for computer editors too. That's the actual users that like the product that are hoping for the computer edit option. Here's the post from the guys that wanted to create an editor: http://line6.com/support/topic/25526-source-code-or-interface-for-the-remote-app/ No official reply, and thread just kind of died. Not sure what transpired either way.
  16. They said to vote for computer editor at Ideascale. 8 mos ago. Firehawk and Amplifi owners requested the same. Last March and nothing. I seriously doubt there will be any attempt to have Pc or Mac editors for this. Buy a cheap android tablet. Some of the under $70 tablets work ok. Some tablets and phones are iffy. I tried the installer on many android products and even emulators, and the Install option wasn't even there. All it said was your device is incompatible. Something with USB Host connectivity. So I rooted the device as suggested in reviews, enabled USB debugging and it still doesn't work on the devices it failed. Many of those are less than a yr old. Some of the older tablets did work. Users all over are having issues with the app. Just read reviews even at the Google Play store for the app. It's weird. On some devices you go to Play Store and Spider V Remote doesn't even show. It's just Firehawk and Amplifi. If you do a web search, the Spider V Remote app is listed. but if you go to install it, still says "device is incompatible" but the funny thing is the Firehawk and Amplifi do not report that message and you can install on your android device.
  17. Not finding any way to to "lock" the assignment. It's a per preset deal.
  18. One thing I learned with using modeling devices was creating shortcuts. You can build patches easily on panel or App by creating templates. Toss a few of the FX you use primarily, and then save these to an open bank. From there just change the amp and cab models. In some modeling devices you can set no amp model or no cab. Spider V lets you select No cab, but amp model must be active. No cab option works great for recording direct and using impulse cabs in your DAW software. I have a bank for that too called DAW. Those are defined with no cab active. All your basic pre and post effects used in any preset can be saved as a template on the app, or the unit. On most of my presets I have saved them with post eq. When using the same cabs or similar amp mfg type it makes preset edits faster. This way I have predefined values for Marshall, Mesa, Fender and so on when using the post eq. On the amp I just save them as Temp Mesa, Temp Marsh. Same as if I have a preferred FX chain type. Those are save in banks. I use the upper banks 30-32.
  19. Makes sense since you are running a Spider Jam, and not a Spider V. You would probably find more user info here: http://line6.com/support/forum/26-spider-jam/ FBV3 updates via the Line 6 updater independently. There is also FBV3 software to custom assign certain elements.
  20. Are you updating with just the FBV3 and usb or are you using the amp connected? I updated FBV and Amp individually.
  21. I use headphones when tracking and monitors when mixing what I have recorded. You can mix with headphones, but they won't always translate the project mix to other devices as well as flat sounding reference monitors. It's hard to mix with headphones without a reference. I do the same with nearfield monitors. Get some pre recorded artist cd or wav tracks (uncompressed audio) and see how they sound through your phones, or monitors. Get your ears used to that if you will. Mix at low volumes. Don't crank anything past conversation level or you will be tweaking mixes every day. Take breaks and rest your ears. Setting presets up with headphones is also not the best idea either. The amplifier will move air differently than the headphone drivers. That final output can really vary so patches created for playing a gig at gig volumes may not translate as well. On my XR18 mixer I have to us a filter on the higher frequencies. I cut anything over 8K for a warmer less hissy tone from the direct outs. When recording I Leave things as is, and eq in post when mixing.
  22. Headphone sound and amp sound are always different since they are right on your ears. No matter if you use monitors, powered speakers, powered wedges. The internal speakers are not exactly full range type either like the headphones. Extended range just over normal guitar speaker limits from what I know. That is to be able to use the internal cab modeling with the amp. Many other amps or modeler units require a full range sounding amplified system. Guitar speakers with amp and cab modeling never play nice with one another. Creates a colored sound.
  23. That would surely help many users. I know my FBV3 was at 1.0 after I purchased it. I typically run updater to see if there are any, and there was. Even the updater was updated. Updated the amp to 1.04 also when that was announced.
  24. You can run mono L side as well. If you use stereo FX and are the primary guitarist, then I would use both XLR outs. Balanced outputs provide a low noise option to mixers or powered speakers. If your band runs the PA in mono as many do, then L XLR mono out is fine. More bands with dig mixers and powered speakers are now running stereo, so it's there when you want that option.
  25. Yes, you can send to powered speaker, mixer channels, ext audio interface input. Level is fixed and not determined by the master volume setting. Patch levels are important though. Try and balance them as much as possible. I run pr of xlr's to our FOH mixer for stereo guitar. Sounds great. Venue sound guys still prefer to mic the amp at some places. Not sure why they dislike direct XLR but it all works out and sound good either way.
