yikes! thats good to know, This just open another can of worms lol. is there any solution to this, or any suggested way to set my rig up safely with out frying anything?
I know it may sound a bit funny but I mainly purchased Helix for the multi fx capabilities. I would love to learn how to utilize the other features such as cab/amp modeling
although I just don't have the money to drop on a modeling FRFR speaker cab.
I'm so glad you didn't just go ahead and try it, Jdecker33.
Unfortunately, unless your amp also has an effects loop, the 4CM is not possible.

Have you played with the Input Impedance settings?

Did you listen to the Pod through an FRFR system? If yes, how did you like that? From what a lot of people tell me, the Helix is a completely different experience than the Pods.
-
If you connect the speaker out of your amp to Helix you will most likely fry the Helix, and after some time running without speaker load, your amp will go, too.
Agreed! Not a good idea!

Mine is set to Instrument at the moment if im not mistaken. When i get home ill have a look see. Gonna try a few suggestions from above as well.
Ah. "Instrument" is for when you're plugging it into the front end of an amp.

I'm with Spikey on this one. Maybe it's because I already have a good studio interface and would actually prefer to send the Helix's analog output signal through my mic pres than go direct via the USB connection. It'll sound good, I know it and I know my mic pres. The Helix? Well, yeah it's marketed as being a very good audio interface - I wouldn't go as far as to say "Top Notch". That would imply that it could compete with the likes of Apogee, UAD and Burl... Not a snowball's chance in Hades. It is, first and foremost "a kickass guitar processor".

I think it's an interesting "Proof of concept" type device and all it's gonna take is some famous artist using it on a recording and... Boom. Lots of people will want one or at least want to try one. It's a different effect but it makes me think of those old oil can echo units. It's unusual things like this that make the creative process more interesting - especially when you've run out of ideas in the recording studio. It' probably has to be used in the dark and that never hurts the creative process.
Oh and Kudos to ZVex for being willing to explore different ideas.
I could see this effect being put to good use on a Fender Rhodes, a Clavinet, a Synth pad or even a B3

Really just the volume level honestly.
Maybe check the Helix's Global output setting. Is it set to "mic" or "line" output? I think it should be set to "line".
-
You probably killed a gremlin.
-
My brain is telling me that shouldn't be the way to set it up, but my ears are telling my brain to shut up. Stupid brain.
LOL. Sounds like a Homer Simpsonism.
-
At a guess it probably will.
I have used the aggregate device all day here with zero problems, without it my audio descends into noise after a couple of minutes.
I take it you're running 10.6.8?
-
Does it work with Snow Leopard?
-
Couldn't it also have a faulty encoder wheel? The one you use to scroll through presets?

Speaking of Line6 IdeaScale, anybody have any idea what they mean when they change the status of your submitted idea from "Active" to "In Review"?
-
I have an Idea in Ideascale for moving the "Master" volume to the first page of the amp parameters.
Up voted!

I sort of agree, although, I think the reason they've left it "channel volume" is simply because that's the terminology they've used on all the PODs and on pretty much all the modeling amps as well. I guess there's always some tension for companies with wanting to make a new product feel familiar for their repeat customers but also making it understandable to the new.
Yes. Clarity versus Tradition. My vote will always be for clarity.

To avoid confusion, they should really call It Block Level or Output Level not Channel Volume. That would just make things a lot easier to understand. Nomenclature, Line 6, nomenclature!

The best way to think of the channel volume parameter is simply as a level parameter for that particular block. Adjusting this doesn't change the tone of the block. It just raises or lowers the volume. It's not a modeled amp parameter. The master volume has some effect on the tone coming from the block. How much depends on the specific model.
Ah. Just as I'd suspected.
I asked because of the way the OP had written it in his post. The word order made it look like the Master Volume determined the block's output.
Thanks for the clarification.
-
So what's the signal flow? Is the Master before the Channel Volume or after? It would make sense to me if it is before the Channel Volume. Otherwise, what's doing what?
-
Where in the preamp block? As far as I know, the Helix doesn't have separate preamp and power amp blocks. Is it between them or after?
-
Wow. Thanks for all the great advice, my friends!!
Slurp...

Better make that four towels and a bucket!
Sometimes anticipation is more than half the fun...
Hmmm... There's a song in there somewhere...
-
I guess I'd check to see which firmware version is loaded.
The most important thing to keep in mind is how the real world devices and amps modeled by Helix act in the real world.
It's also a good idea to wear a bib and have an extra towel nearby to prevent drool from messing up your unit! :p
You'll definitely have fun!
You think I'm not drooling now? Lol

Guard your mail box... ;)
Bwaha! Funny... but not helping.
