  1. Questions:

     Do you think that Boss should modify their material that they use in their L2 bag so that it eats away the paint on the Helix, hehe? I guess they don't care as long as they are selling SOMETHING. Won't putting a Line 6 product into a Boss product rip some sort of hole in the space-time continuum?

     

    Ha ha!  Well, my first option is the Boss L2 but plan B is the Novation.  If putting a Line 6 product in a Boss bag will rip the fabric of the space time continuum... then we'll all get entertained.  LOL

You absolutely can do this and it is actually another example where depending on how complex and how much DSP your preset uses you can be forced to juggle due to having two DSP pools instead of one combined pool. To be honest though I generally find that my acoustic path requires so much less DSP than my electric path that it is not an issue.   3. So, a little OT and I apologize in advance, but I just want to make sure I'm understanding this right.

    When you have two separate internal signal paths, I am correct in assuming that you can assign a footswitch to route the guitar input to either Path A or Path B?  So then you could have signal path A for acoustic sounds (if your  electric guitar has piezos - and mine does) and then hit the switch and it would route the signal to path B for electric sounds?  Is that correct?

     

    I wouldn't be asking if the manual were a bit more clear about this stuff.  It's pretty vague as far as I can tell. Kinda ticks me off.

  4. I'm sure there's no comparison but as a Fender Mustang Floor user whom, despite its many shortcomings, manages to get very usable sounds about of this cheap little modeler. I'm sure the Helix will eradicate all of the thing I miss in the Fender. So no, it's nowhere near what the Helix is. Let's just get that out of the way.

     

    One thing it does offer very Fendery representations of classic Fender amps... Duh. And... And it has Sag and Bias controls for every amp model!!! All this at a price of $199!

     

    One of my favorite things to do is to cranks the Sag and Bias on the Fender Twin model and crank it and lowered the preset volume setting - very fun.

     

    Has anyone done this on the Helix and what does it sound like? Any clips?

  5. Thanks for this, a very well made comparison video. I have to say though, the issue I have been having with getting great acoustic sounds through any modeler is not so much on finger picking where they seem to excel, but on chording. I have spent hours across many days working with all kinds of acoustic IRs, effects, etc.. and the biggest problem I have is getting the chords to sound rich and thick.

     

    I think it has to do with the way piezos respond to the greater force applied to the crystals when you strum. Even running my acoustics through my Fishman Aura Spectrum this is still a bit of a problem. Not as bad but it's still there. I'm wondering if this is something that a sophisticated multi-band compressor might be able to help alleviate. Then again, if you switch between picking and strumming within a song, what's good for one style may not work for the other.

  6. The difference between XT Live and HD (I had both) imho was like the difference between a Fiat and a Mercedes.

     

    The difference between an XT Live and a Helix is more like the difference between a creaky bicycle and a Ferrari.

     

    Seriously, the XT/X3 series of modelers was never really any good at "just FX". everything was a compromise up to that point. HD changed all that, where the FX (and imho the modeling) was top shelf. For Helix, they had to make another shelf above that top shelf.

     

    Thanks for allaying my concerns about my recent leap of faith in buying the Helix.

    Now, all it has to do is get here.

  7. I don't see how you'd have a problem replicating that type of compression on the helix.

     

    I guess my trepidation comes from my horrible experience with the XT Live which, admittedly, was a long time ago but it definitely left a bad taste in my mouth regarding Line 6's Pre-Yamaha approach to compressors. It seemed that they didn't understand how they worked at all - not by a long shot.

  8. LA Studio Comp. I use it on every single chain.

     

    That one's fine for leveling purposes but it's far too clean and transparent and doesn't sound like a proper guitar compressor.

     

    Not what a some of us are looking for.

  9. Elektrik is an old Line 6 amp ported over from the early HD stuff if I remember, and I don't think any of the L6 original amps have all the DEP parameters. Just the nature of a "made up" amp model.

     

    Thanks for clarifying, gunpointmetal. Indeed, it seems to me that since there isn't a real one to model and the original didn't have a Hum parameter in the first place, it stands to reason that the Helix version won't have one either.
