  1. Hi all, loving the amp so far but I have a couple of questions.... 1. The piece of plastic under the control knobs on the top of the amp, certain lower frequencies make it vibrate so hard it's audible (almost like it's not stuck down correctly). Has anyone had this before? 2. This may not be the amp....but at around 12 o clock (not really that high volume wise when playing with a band) the thing create ear splitting feedback when I'm using the middle pickup/out of phase. If I stick my guitar into position 1/5 (humbuckers), it's okay again. I also found that the feedback happens more if I stand behind the amp?! It's really frustrating! Also there were no other devices on at the time (other microphones etc). Any ideas?
  2. I gave Mark a call, VERY nice guy indeed. He said he'd be happy to do the work but thought (without looking) that it was most likely to be valve related and that I should just get someone local to deal with it. But if they can't, I'll just ship it up to him. Thanks for the contact, he's a top guy!
  3. I live in Bristol! Any recommendations? London's still a bit far for me :/ (And thanks for your help!)
  4. Sadly there is only one in the UK and I'd have to drive 3 hours (each way) to get there and back which I don't have the time for :( I think you're right though, I'll take it to a guitar workshop and get them to replace / rebias the tubes.
  5. Cheers Brad, I have NO idea what I'm doing so yea I don't want to kill the amp, or me for that record!
  6. Thanks Geppert, some really good points there! :) Haha true story Matt, and I'm more than happy to compare notes. I'm in Bristol myself so not a million miles away (if we're talking pond distances)! Incidentally you've probably seen my other post but I have a really frustrating hum issue on the triode setting (with allegedly brand new tubes). Also, the piece of plastic under the knobs (combo) vibrates like MAD when I'm playing loud. I wonder if there's a way to shut it up? That aside, it's amazing!!
  7. Hi all, So I picked up my second hand DT25 last week and it's been great. Now - it's just started humming loudly in Triode mode (but not Pentode). I would say, new tubes, but the guy who sold them to me only recently replaced them. Although by his own admission, he just stuck the 3 new ones in and didn't bias them. Is that likely to be the cause? He used electro-harmonix 12AX7 and EL84 tubes. Any ideas :( Bit sad because I just bought this thing off eBay and now I have no recompense. Sigh
  8. Ended up buying the second hand DT25 and a new POD HD500X. Excited....!
  9. So it's a question of realism? Sorry I'm being a bit dumb here, but even if it's FRFR I thought the HD500X emulated speaker cabs anyway, sort of in the same way my SV currently gives me clean/crunch/twang etc based on other amp models (although I realise the former combination bypasses those entirely). So does it matter? Can you explain? Apologies for being so thick on this one!
  10. What if I decided to use an HD500X WITH the Spider Valve via the FX Loop, (or PowerAmp in if that's the same thing). Is the DT25 combo that much better? There's one on Ebay for £370 ($530) and I'm a bit wary about the amp second hand that's 2 years old. Normally I wouldn't mind, but I've read a lot on here about dying DT25 amps with fuses/transformers etc. Thoughts? :)
  11. Thanks, there's some really good points there. Sadly I can't afford to keep the SV *and* a DT25, my wife would leave me haha! How is the sound different between a combo and a head/cab? (Newbie question). I thought it was essentially the same thing but split into 2?
  12. Hey all, I need some buying support please :) I currently own a Spider Valve 112 MK1, which is a nice amp and loud for gigging (I do lots of funk/rock). But it's been getting a little unreliable of late and I'm considering selling it for a DT25/HD500X combo instead. What are people's thoughts regarding volume (compared to the Valve 112 MK1?) I know my current one is 40W and the DT25 is, well, 25W. Oh, and I can't afford a DT50 and can't deal with such a big amp! Whatcha think? :D Thanks
  13. Fixed it....used a needle and pushed some of the dodgy pins on the amp back into place (on the RJ45 socket). If it goes again, I'll just solder a new one on.
  14. For some reason, of late, the amp literally cuts in and out, or sound returns at random volumes while playing. At first I thought my amp was dying but on unplugging the board it's fine again! However, I've done the most obvious thing and switched the RJ45 cable for a brand new one and the problem is still there. Any ideas? :( Thanks, Jon
