  1. I've run one of those MODKITS DIY pedal in between the guitar and the guitar input on my Spider Jam and it sounded pretty good. Use a clean setting/amp model. You can also try the Aux input. The CD/mp3 input works good too.

They can all work you just have to try them to see what's best for you.

  2. This might not be a big help I can only tell you how I do it since there is more than one way to do it.

I just keep it simple and run the KB 37 anolog outs into the fx return of the pod and mix it that way, then to the amp or pa from the pod X3 or HD500 analog outs.

Lately I've been using my old X3 Pro the same way. I'll monitor with phones for the setup and record into RiffWorks sending the analog outs or XLR's to amplification.

I'll stick a drum machine or Beat Buddy in between the KB 37 and HD500 fx returns. Works great for playing around the house with friends. It gets real loud too, lol.

In the end all sound from pa comes from the HD500 or X3 Pro and I record using the HD 500 or the X3 Pro. The KB 37 is just run into the FX Returns of the fore mentioned.

  3. Hi, Im new on here and this subject really interests me. I own both an AXE FXII which I typically run through a mesa 2:50 or engl e810/20 power amp into a variety of different cabs. It can sound great if you put the time in to learning how to set it up and programming your patches. You really have to spend a lot of time tweaking things to account for the fact that you are actually using a real tube power section and real guitar cabs... The AXE seems to me to be designed first and foremost to work with FRFR monitors and most of the AXE community these days has gone FRFR... Line 6 is clearly pushing in that direction as well, starting with the HD line, fire hawk, and most of all the Helix... This concept is something Ive had a really hard time wrapping my brain around.. Call me old school I guess but NO TUBES? Really? Really? Seems like a sketchy proposition to me at best... LOL

However, I recently happened to pick up at DT50 and HD500 and for the first time ever with any line 6 products I was blown away by the tones I was getting and I LOVE the way the HD integrates with the DT! Optimizing the topology of the DT as you alter your HD amp settings is genius. I am used to line 6 processors Ive had in the past producing awful grainy digital sounding distortions that were really hard to work with regardless of having a good tube power section and I was more or less done with Line 6 as a company until the DT line caught my eye.

Anyway, I think you all have made a bunch of really valid and excellent comments about the functionality of both types of rig and youv'e inspired my to try something I have been dreaming of for quite a long time! Im going to hook my AXEII up to a pair of DT's and use MIDI to make them interact with the AXE FX the same way the HD500 does, more or less anyway... My gut tells me the massive processing power of the AXE working hand in hand with a real tube amp with multiple voicings that can be altered to optimize the amp blocks used could be F'ing amazing!

Ill dunno if anybody else is reading this post anymore but I will report back with results when I can.. Also, if anyone has done this please dont hesitate to reach out to me with suggestions or thoughts... I am not a midi genius by any means so Id love to hear from you.. Thanks -Andrew

Sounds interesting, please let us know what you think after you've spent time with that setup you spoke of. Good Luck and have fun.

  4. It's been two weeks, my repair shop (Audio Magnetic Professional Services in Wellngton, FL) has not yet received the replacement power transformer for my DT50.  Psarkissian or someone else at Line 6 please help!

    I'll look into that.

Transformer is being prepped for shipping as we speak.

I've just been informed that it will ship today.

Psarkissian .... we all appreciate you being here.

    Now that's COOL! :)

  5. Preach My Brother!!!!!!!

A little sarcasm, lol. Since I don't gig it almost grows roots :)

On the more positive side the DT delivers for me. I used it today with my X3 Pro and KB37. I'm really impressed that my X3 Pro is still going strong. I'm getting my monies worth with that one. 😀

  6. I was wondering why I was having such a hard time finding a DT50 212 lately - makes sense. I've heard tons of great things but everyone seemed really hung up on the weight of it. I bought one on Reverb.com that should get here today, FedEx says the package weighs almost 100 lbs lol. I'm a CrossFitter so I don't mind but I can see how this could be a deterrent for many. Shame, sounds like a really great amp, I'm definitely looking forward to getting mine.

Sounds great, I think your going to really like it.

Regarding the weight. If one uses their head even the slightest bit they don't have to hurt themselves moving an amp or anything heavy. I use a tiny hand truck to move mine around and lift it very little. I don't need to move mine (DT50HD) around that much, it's seen more travel going back to Line 6 for warranty work, lol.

In my early years I would move a 1 ton machine with a "joe bar", other various machines, a tool box weighing 2.5 tons, all kinds of material stock such as 20 ft lengths of steel of many various shapes, brass blocks, aluminum blocks, large blocks of steel and cast iron, and various machine tools each weighing 100 lbs each onto a trailer whenever I needed to go somewhere else for employment, which seemed to happen every 1-2 years. Glad that's over now, lol.

  7. Okay, I just tried to operate it in safe mode by holding the 4-way directional pad to the left while turning it on and it started working! I don't know what happened, but it's back to normal now. Thanks for your help!

    COOL!

  8. That's insane. Maybe something cooked. You might be looking at buying a new one. Have you tried to contact Line 6. It's a long shot but you should ask Line 6 if there is some way of diagnosing it.

  9. I've seen a good deal on a second hand DT50 probably a 2014 model.

I've read a lot of reviews from 2011ish that diss the DT50 quite a lot.  Lots of poor sound issues, hums, volume loss and so on.  Some people have also found the integration with the HD500 poor.

I was wondering if these were teething troubles and the recent amps and firmware are all good.  I see the DT range has been whittled down, and the Firehawk 1500 looks interesting.

    Any comments?

    Chris

There's really only one way to find out and that's to take the plunge. Just like swimming, don't dip your feet just jump.

So many different experiences out there and each one is special, lol.

  10.

I would like to see cabs and mics which are more a description and less a type or a brand.
    Let´s think about declarations like…

    ---------------------------------

    cab 1 cold

    cab 2

    cab 3

    cab 4

    cab 5 neutral

    cab 6

    cab 7

    cab 8

    cab 9 warm

    ---------------------------------

    micsmooth

    mic 2

    mic 3

    mic 4

    mic 5 neutral

    mic 6

    mic 7

    mic 8

    mic 9 harsh

    ---------------------------------

Maybe my wishes are pointing in a unlogical or wrong direction but I am not a friend of blindly using Cab & Mic Models I do not even know.

Darn good idea! Simplification at it's best. You could post this in the idea scale forum if you didn't.

  11. Well,have you guys,not even moved on from the 70's at all :) .

The following are not exactly teeny bopper, fresh face'd anymore, but what about

    Muse.

    Slipknot.

    Linkin Park.

    Foo Fighters.

    Avenged Sevenfold.

    Green Day.

    Nirvana.

    Sound Garden.

    Paramour.

    to name just a few.

I thought i was a dinosaur,i don't feel quite so bad now :D ,even if my ears are full of wax.

You're not much of a dinosaur with that list, :) All good ones IMO.

  12. It's actually interesting to me that the music industry at this point is far more like the 50's Elvis era than the later 60's through the early 2000's in that the marketing machine is oriented toward selling singles and the album is secondary.  Likewise the sale of those downloads depends a LOT more on touring and not as much on airplay.

Even at my age I have to admit there are some pretty decent artists that have come out and a certain level of creativity I hear beginning to emerge in some of the modern songs.  Some of it I'll probably never appreciate and that's okay because it's not meant for me.

The thing that gives me the most concern in today's music environment is the segmentation of styles.  This tends to cause younger musicians confine their efforts to very specific sub-genres.  They often acheive considerable skills in that genre, but their skills are very narrow in scope.  This tends to limit how much creativity they can incorporate into their music to differentiate them from the rest of the people performing in that genre.  Part of what happened in the past were artists that incorporated various influences outside of pop and rock which provided for great diversity in the music.  I fear this polarizing effect is not terribly healthy for the music industry in general and certainly has been a significant limitation on younger musicians developing a full range of skills.

I'm no music expert (no formal training), but this made sense to me.

  13. The DT50 MIDI implementation guide shows values for each of the knobs so theoretically couldn't one load a controller to send CCs for preamp, cab, drive, bass, mid, treb, pres, and channel vol? I would think with some trial and error one should be able to switch between amp types and keep the levels fairly unison. I have the HD500 but I'm looking to move to just controlling the internal digital controls of the DT50 with MIDI via another device and using an analog pedal rig. Ideally this would be with one of the pedal loop switchers that can also send MIDI program changes. If I can figure out how to make this work it feels like I would be able to use my analog pedal rig with essentially many many different amp sounds in the DT50 - almost like being able to plug in to whatever amp I need for the situation. If anyone can explain how best to set up that would be amazing. Thanks

Sounds good to me. Your on the right track. I use my iPad with MIDI Mobilizer to record the moves I make and then just start playin' after I hit the Mobilzers play button, It makes for very interesting improvisations.

You could probably just program your HD500 with your analog pedals in the loop and plug the pods analog out and go right into the DT's FX Return. You should try this if you haven't
