I need to apologize in advance. This is probably a very stupid question, but any help would be appreciated.
Having not been a big fan of wah wah pedals and volume pedals I never did much with the podhd500x attached pedal.
Now I want to set it up and leave it most of the time in the "off position". Looking at the edit software and the manual, I see there is a special assignment and I can default the pedal to remain off. Yet, from an operating standpoint, when playing, I can't figure out how to turn the switch on, or for that matter even where the switch is located.
I can assign the normal foot switch controls to the expression pedal but that seems like a waste of resources to me.
Can someone please explain in simple terms out to engage the expression pedal on/off switch?
Thanks!
Not a stupid question. :) Select the wah, depress and hold the enter button, you should be able to select the foot pedal switch.
Whoops I guess I didn't read your question right, lol, glad everyone else after me did though. :)

Thanks for your help Brazzy! I knew there had to be updates on both. I will look at those knowledge base links and check it out. I've been torn between purchasing the SpiderJam, the Spider IV, or one of the Amplifi models and I am trying to collect as much info as possible before purchasing. Thanks again!
No Prob, I've got the Spider III for someone as a gift and that thing is blasting today. I've never had the opportunity to use an Ampifi.
What I like to do is run my Spider Jam's headphone out into a Beat Buddy with an insert cable and the Beat Buddy L&R outs into the FX Return of the HD500. This way I can pipe in the Spider Jam's drums, mic and amp models into the HD500 if I need to.
Good Luck with your Amp Huntin'.

I'm also going to purchase the FBV Shortboard MKII and that does require firmware updates, correct?
They both should get updated when you get them. Go to the knowledge base about the Spider Jam and the FBV and learn what you need to do to. First you should check to see if they've already been updated the knowledge base will tell you. It's pretty easy.
You will need an SD Card for the Spider Jam to do the update.and to record and store.
I've been using mine since 2008 and it still sounds great. I use it along side my HD500 quite a bit.

There are 2 more fuses inside the chassis but I never had problems with them to my knowledge. Maybe a bad connection somewhere, sitting over time can cause problems such as a bad capacitor/'s.
Maybe you call Line 6. You may have one of the DT's that needed fixing due to manufacturing issues. They might still fix it under warranty. Who knows, you can ask, what's the worst they can say? No?

Thanks, for the reply,i have to admit i'm struggling A LOT with this frequency issue, however my take on the Peter Hanmer video is,he was showing how to isolate a particular frequency band,& then reducing the Gain until the frequency blended better in the overall Amp Model sound,i didn't read it as cutting any frequencies above a certain level(e.g.6.5K),but as i said i'm struggling,to the point where i'm trying to get my thoughts together to ask the Forum some questions & to put my thoughts/views on the whole subject FRFR/AMPS/AMP MODELS,i'm not sure about tagging it in this thread or start another thread.
Glad the dentist trip went ok,i agree about the limiting the time on sessions, this EQ question is frying my Brain & it dosen't take much nowadays.
I have never ever used effects in terms of Delays/Modulation etc,the only thing i've ever plugged into my Amps in the past is a GE7,but i can see that changing.
I understand completely. Here's a thread that also helped me a lot http://line6.com/support/topic/14480-some-guitar-eq-tips/ by arislaf.
This is the one that really helped me at first. http://www.audio-iss...requency-fixes/
I have an Electro Harmonix Tube EQ which is a parametric eq. It has a "Q" which can narrow or widen the focus point, a frequency knob which sweeps the band and gain knob. It also has a Bass and Treble knob which can cut or boost.
If I plug it between the pre amp and power amp of my DT50HD or Valveking II 20MH it really thickens the tone quite a bit and allows me to shift like a wah with a pedal. I don't use the pedal part much but when I want a thicker tone I turn it on.

I've done some tweaking with the Global EQ,yes better thanks,i have no idea what the frequency range of the Model Amps are,but it sounded like if i cut it at 6.5k,it was an improvement i could hear, does that sound anywhere near right,i'm really not used to these sort of adjustments on a Guitar sound.
The video is brilliant,i can't make it happen like Peter does, but i suspect he's knows his way around this stuff, just a little bit more than me :D ,if i'm reading it right he identified 2 problem areas & cured them with 2 parametrics?,funny his playing style is a bit like mine, except he's good, very good.
Thanks,guys for your help.
I was wondering how you made out.
Every now and then I play around with the EQ's in different ways to find out how I might be able to use them and it gives me a better understanding of them. I always make sure I limit my tweaking time so I play more and tweak less.
The other day I was playing with just using the full amp models (no effects at all) through my Spider Jam Aux input and had a pretty good time. I never really played much with no effects like even a little reverb before so it was kind of a liberating experience, lol.
I went to the dentist but didn't get my teeth cleaned, was too expensive and I didn't re-up the insurance. My teeth feel great anyway, lol. They did a great job on me in the last 6 years or so. They got me to floss now, I'm good to go for a while. :) Besides the dentist had "Dragon Breath", lol.

To be honest, the EQ parameters of the 500X have me completely confused,(i think i said this in a previous post),this may be my real problem with using it.
I have no idea where i'm at with the various EQ models.
I'm completely lost with the values being in %,plus,i don't understand how to interprate the controls on the Parametric model.
I would like to try to explain it to you but I've got somewhere I gotta go. Peter Hanmer had a great video.
Check it out he explains a good way to cut with the para eq. I'll be back after I go to the dentist, lol.
Another thread about the EQ usage. http://line6.com/support/topic/3953-i-just-discovered-the-value-of-eq/
and as below the global eq is of use too.

I was fooling around with usng just the full amp models going into a Spider Jam aux in. So I had no effects in the chain at all. I went through all the amps that had enough default volume to use and some pretty good tones to be had here. Then I added a studio eq after the mixer and set the expression pedal to control the gain min= 50% max=75% and went through the rest of the full amp models that didn't have the volume and boosted them with the pedal.
Pretty good amp tones and that's the default settings on the amp. Then I tried just switching the cabs to see which cabs gave more highs, blah blah blah. Worth the time to go through them like this. I never did and I had this thing for years now, lol. Just goes to show I'm always learning something new.
Of course then there's all the deep parameter settings to try,

Another thing that might help in your garage tone is to try using the 57 on axis mic, this gives that raspy tone.

Listening to some of your soundcloud stuff, you sure do like your distortion. You make some unique stuff. A lot of it could be a good example of garage-rock tone!
You're phrasing of distortion reminds me of Steve Ballmer:
Developers,Developers,Developers,Developers Steve Ballmer Video
WOW!!! LOL :) That was intense. Thanks Man!
Your music is KILLER duncann!

Now we all know by now how Line 6 set out to create professional-grade virtualizations of high-end gear, but I'm seeking to do the opposite (ironically enough): got a Jaguar the other day and I'm looking to do some trashy garage-rock revival/garage-punk tones from bands such as the Hives, a digital approximation of that "blown speaker/slashed cones" sort of tone that screams rock n roll. I got the all-inclusive expansion pack so any amp in the 500X is available, lead me to noise brothers and sisters!
Distortion, Distortion, Distortion, High Gain amp Cranked or even a low gain amp cranked. Hammer the hell out of your guitar and back off 'till you can hear some of the main notes, lol.
I know I'm kinda joking but I'm not far from the truth.
Lately, I've been using the Line 6 ToneCore Uber Metal pedal and Zoom MS100BT into the guitar input on the Pod. Then another distortion or boost/dynamic comp of some sort after that, What a mess I can make with that. Nice Mess
Like this https://soundcloud.com/reeleeze/rav-vee-oaley Not maybe the best example, lol. Anyway the Patch http://line6.com/customtone/tone/1773720/
I recorded with RiffWorks Standard adding some compression in the DAW. I monitored with the Pod's 1/4" analog out into a Spider Jam's Aux input with some compression added in the Spider Jam's aux settings. I run a stereo drum into the Pod's FX Return and mix with the mix setting in the FX loop settings. I usually have a studio EQ at the end of the chain so I can boost the drums if I want more bass etc.etc.

You can't unlearn what you have learned.
The trick to sounding like you don't know what you are doing is to act like you don't know what you are doing.
Instead of doing things that 'sound good', go for things that make no sense...
Mix and match amps and cabs. Turn knobs to 10. Add a distortion pedal with another distortion pedal.
Maybe you don't even use distortion, just turn a clean amp to 10. That's how they did it before distortion was invented.
Think of everything you would do to get a good tone, and do the opposite.
Damn, That sounds like what I do, lol.

Awesome, thanks :)
Yep, This article about buying headphones might help too. Headphones Buying Guide I don't work for Sweetwater but the article looks good.

Hi :)
I have just bought the podhd500x and cant wait for it to arrive. I have been reading up about headphones and have read a bit about frfr,
If someone could help I would be very thankful :)
What are the best headphones or ones that work well for you with the pod? My budget is around 100 pounds :)
Also, is frfr like studio monitor speakers or something else? how much would a set up of that cost? are headphones frfr or just speakers?
Im confused by it all but if someone could help clear it up that would be really great, thanks :)
Yes studio headphones is what your looking for.

Excellent description! But it's been decades since my electronics training in the USAF and you may have taken my "DETAILED" remark a smidge too literally! *grinz* I'm just trying my best to figure out why these interesting settings were even included in the hardware/software clusterfark that is the flagship of the L6 line.
I certainly don't have these controls on my physical amp and it costed a boatload more than the Helix.
I got Ya! I do that sort of thing for fun and it teaches me something I never really thought about. I agree with you wholeheartedly. I'm still using the HD500 when I first got it I didn't even know how to ask a question, lol. I just read some stuff here and there on and off and the twisted knobs trying to figure it all out like puzzle. These days the HD500 is not as big of a puzzle to me.
Just keep twistin' 'till ya can't twist no more. :) and don't forget play guitar :)

If you cant figure out the "Ripple setting".....Drink some, lol.

About the Ripple Control? The manual says things get freaky at higher settings so I guess they get frequey, lol.
The most common meaning of ripple in electrical science is the small unwanted residual periodic variation of the direct current (DC) output of a power supply which has been derived from an alternating current (AC) source. This ripple is due to incomplete suppression of the alternating waveform within the power supply.
As well as this time-varying phenomenon, there is a frequency domain ripple that arises in some classes of filter and other signal processing networks. In this case the periodic variation is a variation in the insertion loss of the network against increasing frequency. The variation may not be strictly linearly periodic. In this meaning also, ripple is usually to be considered an unwanted effect, its existence being a compromise between the amount of ripple and other design parameters

Good enough for me that this was your life changer bro. Take care.
Thanks and you know I will.
Getting back to this EEG thing. I wonder what other things one can control. I know this brain activity reading subject is growing.
Years ago I was hearing that someone or company has found out sure fire way to find out if a person is telling the truth or lying with a sort of MRI of the brain. I wonder how the 2 might be linked, lol. That person said a certain part of the brain lights up when one lies and another part lights up when the truth is told.
Just recently I remember Michio Kaku saying that a dvd image of a persons brain can be recorded so this would include one's character, personality, knowledge, creativity, etc and could be used to replicate a person even after they die. Like in a robot or a hologram.
The possibilities are amazing to me.

Oh my.. Thanks guys for sharing!
Hey Aris. Please keep in mind I couldn't possibly give you the whole story in a tiny post so read it only for what it is. Don't let your imagination run too far away.

Thanks Duned and hurghanico. Good thought to ask about the default device. I double checked, and the default is, in fact, the built-in sound card. But why was I so airheaded before your comments that I did not think to watch the sound card window when I plugged in the POD?? The POD does, indeed, make itself the default card every time it is plugged in. When I right clicked to un-default it I saw the option to disable it entirely, and presto – no more HD500 audio in my face – ever. Well, until I want the POD sound card to be active for some reason, in which case I will have forgotten what I did and probably post again. No, jk, I will document it for later. Thanks again you guys for helping me! What a cool group.
All part of the learning curve.

As cool as Trio is (and it is cool), if you have an iPhone, Apple's new Music Memos app works incredibly well. Connect via USB to Helix and you're golden.
I'm going to try this out, Thanks Man!
