  1. That's true Brazzy. In the 90s I ran across a bunch of motherboards that were using a really bad batch of caps that showed up on a variety of boards. If the cap didn't pop its top or bulge the old boy wasn't about to solder unsolder random parts :)

I can't hazard a guess as to the caps causing pops and cracks.

You must be X'perienced Bro. :)

Speak'in of Cap's I got a Samsung TV doing the Ol' Clickitty-Do-Da-Day, it's on the blink

Guess I'll be doing some soldering soon. â€‹

  2. Hi!

I realized that you can place the amp sim after the mixer block. How would this differ from having it before the mixer? (POD HD500X) I noticed a bit more distortion in the GK bass amp sim I'm using while placing it after.

If I place it after the mixer it also seems to make it possible to have two seperate signal chains (or one divided) inte the amp sim. Would this make it possible to use this setup for a "clean blend" for a distortion pedal going into the bass amp? This would be creat since i now have to use a dual amp setup with one clean and one dirty for distortion settings with bass. It's complicated to always having to count for two amps when changing minor EQ and takes a lot of DSP.

I can place the amp after the mixer???? LOL Well I'lllllllll Beeeeeeeee. Maybe I tried it years ago and forgot, lol. I learn something new every day. Thanks man!

PS: Oh wait I've got the HD500, I gotta check it out. It works YAAAAAYYYYYY!

  3. I'm with the OP.

  4. Thank you Brazzy. Yeah it seemed to work fine and it might be something that I may do more if needed. Just wasn't sure if there are proper settings for this or if this could somehow send a wrong signal path. Example: canceling out the signal to the soundboard and only sending it to the headphones. Which is something I wouldn't want in a live setting.

    Thank you

Your Welcome jbenge08. I understand your concern with issues while performing live. Maybe someone else who actually does this can chime in. I would think if your doing it and experience is showing you it's working you would be fine. "Experience is the Ultimate Knowledge"

  5. Hollis has a great suggestion.

I sometimes use the studio EQ after the FX Loop to boost and I can get some good harmonics when I open the highs up to 8000 Hz I don't think you have to up the gain on the highs to get it either. Sometimes I completely open up lows and the highs on the Studio EQ when I run stereo drums into the FX Loop Return placing the FX Loop before the EQ so it's affected thereby allowing me to control it's freq's and levels.

You could try placing it at the end of your chain and just upping the gain, try opening up freq's range too to hear what happens. You could also try the Boost Comp or Tube Comp.

You could also try the other EQ's. Of Course there are probably other options. Also you check the FX Loop switch setting Line/Stomp and the what id the 1/4 inch outs set at Amp/Line?

  6. OK, that explains why he gets phasing issues. The noise gate mixes L/R together to get the mono output. If you don't want to worry about phasing issues then you'll need to keep the L/R stereo pair all the way out to L/R amps and speakers.

I was just riffing with skyproclaimsit's patch, the one in the video, and It's kinda cool. I'm going into just my spider jam with the Pod's L mono output into the spiderjams aux input. The Pods mixer is panned hard L & R and when I switch off the noise gate I get a boost and a change in the tone. Neat idea I never really thought about using the noise gate as a boost mechanism, lol.

  7. Check this out. When I had an issue with my DT50HD I contacted Line 6 about finding a place in my area for warranty repair and after trying 3 places that had been reccommended, 1 of them had closed, so I called Line 6 again and spoke to someone else. They told me no on would be able to fix it in my area and that I should send it to them. Which I did and they fixed it. I had one of the early DT50HD's. Man when it works it kicks a$$!

    Hope you get'er fixed soon.

PS: In the beginning of my amp issue, some crackling noise during a few sessions followed by no sound. I thought it was power tubes and/or a fuse. The fuses were good so I did the tube change with the recommended pre amp tubes, power tubes and biased them. It worked for a short time and then ended up intermittently going out with a fading volume drop.

  8. You should get the FBV MK I or II. The II if you want the looper (which really isn't that much time). The MK I has a slightly larger display. BTW. The FBV Express (4 button one) is OK at best and is the minimum one for using the wah.

Scratch my first post, BillBee has it right. I just looked at the manual and it looks to me like you either need to buy an actual wah pedal and go into the guitar input or get an FBV Pedal.

  9. Thanks, guys.I didn't pick up on the Video, that the phase issue was because it was mixed down to Mono,i thought it was panned L/R in the mixer section,or was it later in the signal path it was summed to Mono?.I'll watch it again & i'll see if i can figure it out.

    Cheers,Old(very)-Rocker :)

He put a noise gate (mono effect) after the mixer which would mono the signal.

  10. There's nothing wrong with learning all the deep parameter stuff, there's a time and a place for it. It's a good idea to read Line 6 manuals, I did this before I got a UX2, X3 Pro and HD500. Between that and reading internet forums and watching a few yoo toobs I had a pretty good idea what I was in for, lol.

  11. No stores in the area, so i have to buy and return them! No problem for the shop where i buy them. Just need openbacked and flat headphones

I understand and would think most stores would be short on variety these days.

Well my 2 cents is just a few posts north of this one, but anything that's billed as "studio" or "studio monitor" headphones should give you a reasonably flat response. Just stay away from anything that says "Dr. Dre" on it, and you should be fine... ;)

Good 2 cents worth. Look for flat, and I think linear is also another way of saying flat.

  12. no midrange. Any other suggestions?

The 990's description depicts the lack of mids. You didn't try the 770's? some others? How are you trying the headphones, at a store? or are you buying them and returning them.

  13. Sorry to hear about your amps of the past. I think you'll have a blast with HD Pods and might even find it easier than you think. Especially you're an experienced guitarist.

I know you asked about amplification for it. I can tell you it sounds really good going into my Spider Jam's Aux input and DT 50's FX Return. I've ran both of these amps L & R and it sounds pretty darn good but I'm not gigging with it. I have my own little party's and run a BeatBuddy into the FX Loop so I get some good drums going. It's amazing how well BeatBuddy sounds out of those 2 amps.

I also have a Peavey Valveking II 20 Micro Head and run that with a Jet City JCA20S closed back also use that cab with the Jet City Picovalve which I bought as a set.

Like BillBee said you got loads of help here as well as other sources.

  14. I have just watched the Vid by "skyproclaimist",i don't have much idea what he was doing with all the different screens, but it's made me realise i can't think about buying a 500X for gigging.

One of the Big attractions of the 500X for me is being able to use 2 amp models for L/R signals(i've used 2 amps on gigs for years)but after watching the vid & listening to the in phase/out of phase section(which completely lost me)i realise i'm wasting my time time buying a 500 for gigging.

Instead of buying one to gig with,i'm probably going to buy & hope i can get to grips with it,before i die :( .

The really worrying thing for me is i didn't even know Dual Amp Models could be out of Phase,i thought that was just in the realms of pos/neg reversed on speakers etc or phase cancellation with a stereo speaker system because of alignment issues.

I wouldn't have realised the Amp models had a  phase problem, until i heard the result of what he did by putting another unit in the signal path to reverse phase of one Amp model.

Is it possible my 2 combo amps i used for years had a  phase problem & nobody(especially me) ever picked up on it ?.

How can i learn about this & more importantly how to recognise it.

These forums are amazing for people like me,& definitely prove the saying, you're never too old to learn :)

Whatever you decide to do I hope you have fun with it as life is too short to screw around with technical issues, lol.

Before I watched that video I just used my ears to find what works for me so I'm much like you. If it sounds good it must be good. K.I.S.S. is KEY. Knowing when to stop tweaking and start playing is my first rule.

How did you use your combo set up before? A & B'ed or simultaneously or both?

BTW, on that dual amp patch I used in my previous post I could not insert a reverb at the end of the chain if I wanted too, ran out of DSP on my HD500. I would probably need to insert an FX Loop in there and set up a pedal board on the side, which is in the works.

There will be a learning curve if you decide to learn on your own. The forum and slew of youtube videos out there can speed things up a bit but it's still a steep learning curve for some of us.

  15. Take some of the patches you can find at the Meambobo Toneguide page and disassemble them see what does what and baby step it. Best of all have patience.

    Check this vid out.

Loved how the guy set it up and the use of the EQs.

Ok this post and video was so good I broke out my 50$ Epiphone Special II and went to it to see what happened when I recorded into my DAW (RiffWorks). I made a patch much like skyprcolaimsit, set up a drum set and did a quick minute.

    Good one Bill

  16. Thanks for sharing your experience "CF". I was wondering what a "scribble strip" was when I clicked this thread, lol. I would've called a 'footswitch display" hahahah. I like "scribble strip" better, sounds cooler.

I hope you all get happy soon. I'm sure Line 6 isn't happy about it either. From experience they helped me quite a bit when I had problems with a DT.

  17. Here is a bit of irony:

My Banana's at Large guy called me yesterday to tell me he had a unit for me.  I was getting ready to drive down to pick it up when we received a flood advisory at the county line.  Called Banana's and said I would be down tomorrow (today).  Got to the office, checked my email, and had received a tracking number from UPS for shipment out of MF's KC warehouse.  Card charged, everything.

I just called the local retailer and apologized up and down.

On a brighter note, I did receive my shipment notice and will have this damn thing underfoot within the week.

When you finally get this thing and play with it for a while I'm gonna yell YAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!! so freakin' loud your going to hear it and I'm 3000 miles away from Ya, lol.

  18. You could save money and get the 770's which would just as good IMO and I have the 990's. I don't know 'bout the AKG's, they're probably good though. Heck, I still use Bose AE headphones 32ohm and they kick too.

  19. That's exactly what I thought. The warranty is very important to me, I would always pay a lot more money and buy a new product straight from the shop with warranty, rather than pay e.g. three times less for the same product, but used and without warranty. So I totally agree on that, but if I go for the used X3, I must take that risk.

Thanks Brazzy. Yeah, it looks so cool, that pedal and the chrome bars... I mean the HD500 also looks great and solid, very quality made. Well, it's a very tough decision to make. :) All I know is I have to buy one or another as soon as possible. From all I read, the X3 is a great product, with lot and lot of possabilities. It still is the deal. The HD is an improved product, with maybe a little less features, but with better sounding amps. How much better, I would ask? How much better is that "sound" difference in favour of HD500 comparing to the X3? Is it like drastic, or imperceptible? Maybe in the and it all comes to a subjective feeling of one or another user.

The warranty might be the deciding factor in this. You might be able to get both. Buy one and save up strategically and get the othe later. For me having a back up device was always important.

"Sound is so very subjective" is truth.. My experience concerning reliability with the UX2, X3 Pro and Hd500 have been very good. Keep in mind I don't gig with them and they generally stay put. Since they've lasted all these years I would have to say they are all great builds. Many people buy used and have good experiences, too.

do you still remember the old CRT TVs?.. and of course you know the modern TVs in high definition..

both of them are good and usable, but what is the difference between them?..

well, between X3 and HD is more or less the same difference above

That's a good way of putting it "H" I have to agree :)
