  1. Ok, so I'm having one of those "did you try to plug it in" moments.  I went into workbench to check and see if maybe I had the magnetic pups blended with the modeled pups and low and behold, it was set at 10% blend.

    Duh.

I took it down to zero and problem solved.  Feel like an idiot because the manual and this forum has many posts about not being able to use altered tuning if you're blending the pups.

Although I don't recall reseting the blend but whatever.  hope no one else is having this problem!

  2. I enjoyed reading this discussion and was confused / had a question about one of the posts on what signals actually come out of / go through the variax / VDI.

I've been looking at some of the more advanced presets for using the HD500 with a JTV and I recall seeing a video where you could have one "guitar" with standard tuning and another with say an alternate tuning (like a 3rd or 5th up/down) for doing harmony.  What wasn't clear was do I need to run both a 1/4 line AND a VDI cable or can it all get done with the VDI?  I'm also assuming I want the HD500 to change the models/tunings on the JTV when I select the preset.

My 2nd question would be is there ever a case where you would want to have both a 1/4 cable and VDI going to the HD500?

I've read elsewhere in this forum (including post by Line 6) that if you run the 1/4 and VDI at the same time you'll likely burn out the PCB board in the JTV.  Probably not worth the risk.

  3. I have a JTV-59 and am experiencing an odd issue with the Spank model bridge pickup.  Whenever I try to use it in 1/2 down tuning I get a really strange sound - like a warbled delay.  This happens with or without effects.  It happens whether I activate the tuning on the guitar with the tuning knob, or through my POD HD500 via forced tuning (Variax VDI input).

Anyone else have this issue and if so how did you fix it.

    Any help much appreciated.

  4. Miroslav - Thanks but I have the latest firmware installed (I think it's 2.6).

I've mostly corrected the problem with some trouble shooting and borrowing advice from other issues posted in the forum.  I have the 4CM setup per normal configuration.  I have Input 1 set to Variax and Input 2 set to Variax Mags.  I then split the signal, put the FX loop in path 2, and played around with the input/output settings of the FX loop.  That's addressed the overall issue of nasty feedback.  I still get a little noise when engaging Marshall dirty channel but I figure with some more EQ fun I'll get that fixed.

    Thanks for responding!

  5. Hey all -  I recently picked up a JTV-59 and love it.  I run it into my POD HD500 and Marshall JCM900 using the 4 cable method.

For any of the modeled presets it sounds great.  I run these into the effects return on the Marshall..

Before the JTV, I ran some presets through the "front" of the amp using the FX loop block in the HD500 and the 4 cable method.

Now with the JTV running into the HD500 through the variax input/VDI, I get serious feedback when I try to engage the dirty channel.

Basically the FX loop doesn't work.

I tried to a/b the output from the HD500 (one to effects return on amp, one to front of amp) and only the effects return works.

Anybody have this problem?  I want to run the JTV through VDI to control models and supply power.  But want to option to bypass HD500 amp models and go into front of Marshall for the dirty channel tone.

    Advice much appreciated.

    steve
