  1. Thanks psar..! To verify my understanding: All the digital models use the piezo pickups in the bridge, the coil pickups are not used. Stringing the guitar with a set where the high E is .009 or .010 will provide the optimum contact/pressure for the piezos to work properly. Question: will the same size strings be the best for my Variax acoustic?
  2. I've got a JTV-59 (Les Paul-style body) and a JTV-69 (Strat-style). On both the high E is quieter than the other strings. On the JTV-59 I cranked out the pickup pole-piece (both pickups) and got the volume pretty close. Since the single coil pickups on the JTV-69 don't have adjustable pole-pieces, that's not an option anyway. I have to believe that there's an adjustment in the electronics somewhere which would let me (or an approved technician) equalize the volume without such a brute-force adjustment.
  3. I'm playing along nicely, and the sound stops. It used to come back after a while, but now it doesn't play at all. The dial is lit, batteries are fresh. I asked at the local Line 6 approved repair center, and the tech says he can't get parts and doesn't have circuit diagrams, so he can't do anything. If I send it in, can the company technicians repair it?
  4. So I assign the tuning to a model, then upload the model to the JTV, then change the model to not use the tuning? Sheesh.
  5. I created a custom tuning. I stashed it in the last tuning setting--"Baritone" on the dial. There isn't a model that uses it, I just dial it up for special occasions. I have a new Variax JTV-59. I downloaded from Workbench HD. The custom tuning isn't on the new ax. Why not?
  6. Is there any estimate as to when batteries will become available again? Thanks!
  7. Cameron Sino brand are the only ones available on eBay.
  8. Sweetwater also has them listed as backordered. Where can I get one?
  9. Thanks for the detail. And for being patient with all of us. :)
  10. Also, $100 for a battery + charger at Sweetwater. Sheesh.
  11. The batteries and chargers are out of stock on the Line 6 Web site. There are a bunch that claim to be compatible on that site that starts with A... I need a spare battery & charger, since I'm selling my JTV-69 but keeping my JTV-59 and the charger and battery have to go with the 69.
  12. The contact points (two in and one flat) appear to be the same, polarity correct. They seem to charge properly on the Line6 charger. They came up in a search for Variax batteries but do not claim to be compatible. And apparently they aren't. Sheesh.
  13. I found some camera batteries that look the same as the Variax batteries: NP-F550/F570. Same form factor, same 7.4 voltage. Why won't they work? Seems to slide right in, no response from the Variax.
  14. I got my HD500X today, downloaded the software and tried the drag & drop. It worked and the "some I/O differences" bit me. My PRO X rack patches used front and back (just in case I had to switch) and that's not an option in HD500X so the input got set to "Variax" only. I had to go through and change all the inputs. After that, everything was A-OK.
  15. Topic says it all. I see that there is different computer software for editing, so I'm guessing the answer is "no" but I'll be happy to be wrong about that.
  16. Ah, HA! I found an old Win8 WinBook (tablet) on eBay. Loaded Java (1.8.0_333-b02), which needed Microsoft Visual C++. Downloaded Variax Workbench and viola! Mind you, the screen is microscopic, and everything looks like it's in 3-point type, but it works! Yay! Yes, I know it's voilĂ --it's a musician joke.
  17. MartinHines, thanks for taking the time to help! The install executable I used is the same name & size as the link you just gave. I have only 1 line in Java Control Panel/Java/View... Platform: 1.8 Product: 1.8.0_161 Location: http://java.sun.com/products/autodl/j2se Path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.8.0_161\bin\javaw.exe Runtime: <blank> Enabled: true Architecture: x86 From the command prompt: >java -version java version "1.8.0_161" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_161-b12) Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 25.161-b12, mixed mode) So java seems to be in my environment. Why can't Workbench find it? Or use it?
  18. Well, dangit. I found jre-8u161-windows-i586.exe (current is now 333, so it took a search as well as creating a login for the Oracle Java site). I downloaded it, installed it. Rebooted. Checked that the path (C:\ProgramData\Oracle\Java\javapath) is now in my PATH variable. Fresh download of Workbench. When I try to execute Workbench, it says "Could not find valid Java runtime!" And then a second window that says "Could not init JNILoader!" I also tried running Workbench in compatibility mode (Vista and Win8), but still no joy. OS: Windows 11 Home build 22000.739 Memory: 8.00 GB (5.92 GB usable) Is it possible that the jre-8u161-windows-i586.exe install is 64-bit? That there's a 32-bit somewhere that I didn't find?
  19. See in particular comments by MartinHines and Skulhammer2
  20. Are you suggesting there is a CC for volume that is not EXP-1 or EXP-2? If so, where would I find that? Looked in the Advanced Manual, but didn't see it. If by "programming" you mean writing code, no, I'm not that guy. If it was perl, maybe. :-)
  21. I'm using MIDI control rather than a floorboard. Is there a way to have more than 2 EXP pedals? I'd like to have (like I did with my original POD) one for volume, one for wah, one for fading echo or reverb in/out, etc. Can I do that?
  22. Also new guy here. The Pro X is like having about 100 stomp boxes and dozens of amplifers. If you try to take them all in at once, you'll go nutz. My suggestion: 1) Get the HD Pro X Edit software 2) Walk through the set lists, try the sounds. Don't do too many at once, your ears will fade out. 3) When you find a sound you like (for whatever reason: good tone, cool effect, whatever) copy it to the User 1 bank. 4) Once you have several sounds you like, start messing with them (in User 1, that way you don't lose the original): change the effects, change the drive on the amp, tweak it. After a while, you'll find which amps & effects you like and which you don't, have some idea how to muck with the sounds, start getting comfortable with bits here & there.
  23. It looks to me like your FC-300 is sending a Bank Change message with value of 0. That will bring up the first "Set List" (I hate that name). I don't know the FC-300, so I can't advise on how to change it. Alternative solution (if you have HD PRO X Edit) is to save the "Best of" set list, then load your preferred set list into that first slot. (From the "C" appendix of the Advanced User Guide) Load Set List: from your MIDI controller device, send a Bank Change CC0 (Bank MSB), CC32 (LSB) message with a value of 0 (for Setlist 1), 1 (for Setlist 2), etc., followed by a Program Change message (Value 0-63 for Preset 01A - 16D) for the desired Preset within the Set List. The Set List and Preset are loaded on POD HD Pro X.
  24. I have an original Pod Pro. Is that the same as a Pod 2? I've got the software, installed on my Win10 laptop, got the Midisport 4x4 plugged in, no joy. Edit says it can't connect to the Pod. I set the MIDI channel to 1, I see the lights flashing on the Midisport when I try "refresh," I've tried different cables...still nothin'. Any suggestions?
