  1. Here's a pic from my mod of a spring-loaded Mission EP-1.  I thought it might be useful in case the pix above aren't sufficiently clear about which lug on the pot is hooked up to which part of the jack:

    • Red wire is Tip
    • Green Wire is Ring
    • Black wire is Sleeve

    You could also put a jumper between the Green/Black lugs and only connect the sleeve if you have a TS jack.




  2. I was reading up some comments on TGP and some people are claiming that those 'squirrels/harsh-top-end fizz/artifact' sound is no longer there???  


    What do you think guys?  Is that issue now consider dead (if there was an issue to begin with)?


    i'm one of the folks on TGP who made the squirrel observation.  I find it to be a relative non-issue now.  I still hear some things I don't much care for in the Vox models but it's now as squirrel-free as any modeler I've owned (AxeFx, Amplifire being the most recent).


    I think the whole point here is relating to the stock cabs. Nobody really complains of the high end harshness once they've switched to IRs but folks expect the native cabs to be useful as well. Yet only select few seem to really appreciate them.


    I dunno.  I heard squirrels just as much in IRs as stock cabs unless they had a steep high cut baked into the IR. While I have accumulated a pretty big IR collection, I still start with the stock cabs and only go to IRs when I can't find a stock cab that does the trick.

  3. The only thing is that the 1/4" outputs on the Helix are unbalanced, high impedance outputs, so wouldn't want to run them further than 20' or so because you can run into issues with noise and signal degradation past that. 



    While they don't appear to have published output impedance specs anywhere, I'd be very surprised if it was "high impedance".  I'd hazard a guess that it's probably around the 700Ω value that you once posted for the M13.  While that value might be higher than on the XLRs, it should've have an issue driving a cable run of any "reasonable" length.  Relative to running XLR, I think the greater concern would be noise rejection than signal degradation.  


    But that's just my opinion: I could be wrong.

  4. My main project is originals so I try to get each song's tones just so.  :P


    In my cover band, it's definitely a ballpark effort.  in fact, I tend to use 3-4 snapshots on a single preset for at least 3/4 of our stuff.  if I played in a tribute band, it would be a different story.

  5. I'd just use the Helix as my input interface and the Presonus for the outputs.  in fact, aside from having a Mackie Big Knob as my output interface, that's exactly what I do for recording. I do run analog outputs on my HX to the Mackie but only for zero latency monitoring.  Everything being record goes in via Helix/USB.

  6. Very often I find that when you aren't cutting through the mix, there is one constant that seems to always be the case.


    There is almost always way too much bass in the tone.

    Or too much gain

    IME, there are two factors that cause a guitar tone to get lost in the mix:

    1. Lack of transients

    2. Lack of mids


    When dialing things in at home, there's a tendency to use more gain to provide greater sustain at low volume. The problem is that while this does compress the signal, it totally kills your transients. What I've learned to do instead is dial in the gain to get the amount of crunch/ saturation I want and then throw a compressor in front of the amp block or distortion block to get the desired dynamics. The reason that works is because compressors allow you to set the degree to which transients pass via the attack parameter. Setting it between 10-30ms will keep things punchy and allow for more sustain.

  7. 4CM leaves a lot of cables going around.  One thing that might help in the future is color coding your cables.  I like to use a strip of colored electrical tape on the plug.  Put a bit of the tape by the jacks on your HX / Amp / Cab and it'll be easier to confirm that everything is hooked up the way you expect.

    Not at launch.


    Based on the other thread he started, the OP isn't really into researching such details.

  9. Funny, my headphones always get me in the ballpark. At the gig it just takes a small tweak here and there to get the tones where I want them to be.

    I use KRK KM-8400 Phones and JBL EON 10s for my PA.



    Same here.  Never had an issue going between Beyer DT-880 / Equator Q8 / QSC K8 / Atomic CLR / Whatever PA the venue has.

  10. Ideally, you'd use a 48KHz IR with at least 2048 samples. Longer samples aren't a problem: they just get truncated. In that case, the only "data" that is lost is extreme low frequency response and room reflections (that probably aren't desirable anyway). A 24 bit depth would be converted to 16 but that's like downsampling a higher resolution resolution image to something your display can accommodate: information is lost but the system is still giving you the same results as if it got an input of optimal resolution.


    TL;DR: You might be overthinking the "loss of data" issue.

    I bought B-Stock at a price comparable to what some folks are asking used.

  12. Please hire more ressources and pickup the pace 



    First, people are not resources.  If you think of them that way, you not only dehumanize them, your concept of staffing is wrong. If you think of folks--particularly software developers--as interchangeable parts, you're in for a bumpy ride.  If you hire undifferentiated parts, you'll get undifferentiated results. 


    Second, there's a maxim in the software development that adding people to a late project only makes it later. Google "mythical man month" for more info.
