  1. Its working for me

    Details:

    http://line6.com/support/topic/9457-line-6-sonic-port-vx-for-ipad-2/

I successfully used it with my iPhone 6 Plus ( IOS 8.1.2), and iPad Air ( IOS 7.6.2)  -

I can use SonicPort VX to record 24 bit stereo using either of these IOS  apps on my iPhone 6 plus.

Yonac ToneStack ( Guitar Amp sim/Stereo FX/recorder) and Harmonic Dog MultiTrack DAW.

Also for chraging the IOS device while using -  You do need to use the 12 Watt iPad charger for connecting the "2nd" micro-USB Charge cable to the Sonic Port VX and have  the Sonic Port VX charge the Lightning cable connected iPhone/ iPad .

  2. Not worth it

Bluetooth 4.0 remains a very high latency streaming audio solution - on order of 100 milliseconds ( on a good day)

With any live drummer  - You will play "behind the beat"  if you use any Bluetooth speaker for live use.

Not even IK Mulitimedia recommends Bluetooth for live performance with their iLoud Speaker

    http://forum.audiob.us/discussion/4112/how-to-choose-a-bluetooth-portable-speaker/p1

  3. Must enable "Background Audio"

    http://www.positivegrid.com/jamup-help/

    Control Panel

The control panel can be accessed by tapping on the “gear†icon in the lower right section of the screen.  Here you will be able to set up different features of the app to your liking.  You can turn on background audio to allow the sound of the app to continue to play while you browse another app, change how the knobs respond to your touch (linear or rotary), as well as the latency settings.  Here you will also find settings that will enable certain 3rd party controllers such as AirTurn pedals.  Another great feature is choosing how the output is routed: left, right, or both channels.  This is also where you login or set up an account for JamUp’s Tone Sharing feature.

  4. I just took delivery of the new SonicPort VX

I successfully used it with my iPhone 6 Plus ( IOS 8.1.2), and iPad Air ( IOS 7.6.2)  -

You do need to use the 12 Watt iPad charger for connecting the "2nd" micro-USB Charge cable to the Sonic Port VX and have  the Sonic Port VX charge the Lightning cable connected iPhone/ iPad .

I can use SonicPort VX to record 24 bit stereo using either of these IOS  apps on my iPhone 6 plus.

The Line6 Mobile POD app I have less use for, as the delay latency is a bit too high. Positive Grid BIAS sounds great, but also has higher latency than YonacToneStack.

I used an IOS app called "AUD-1" and this allows you to judge and measure the IOS Audio Interface's round trip audio latency

Using my iPhone 6 Plus, and the IOS app "AUD-1" ( which measures Audio latency on IOS devices ) with buffer set to 64 - Sonic Port VX reports a latency delay of 519 Sample and 11.8ms Latency Delay Time .

This is the same high performance  / low latency as my IK iRig Pro and Roland UA-22 Duo Capture EX  - I only use 24 bit interfaces on my IOS devices

    The SonicPort VX is great!

Compared to prior Line 6 Mobile Interfaces for Iphone  - I'm having a far better time with the Sonic Port VX.

It does a few unique things. There are two rear access ports for computer I/O cables

    * Proprietary Plug for Proprietary IOS Lightning cable or 30 pin Cable connection)
    * Micro USB port can connect to Macs/PCs using downloadable USB Audio Driver from Line-6.

When the  Sonic Port VX's Lightning cable is used to connect the Sonic Port VX to iPhone 6 Plus, or Ipad Air,  the remaining
Micro USB port can connect to any USB  2.1 Amp Power Adapter and charge the IOS device the Sonic Port VX is connected to. But note that the AC Power Connection does compromise the Noise Floor ( with additional 120 HZ Hum ) - luckily a large Portable Battery for USB power can be used for lower noise

The SonicPort VX is about twice as big "in person" and larger than the older Sonic Port.

The Sonic Port VX Audio latency is identical to the IK Multimedia iRig Pro.

Using my iPhone 6 Plus, and the IOS app "AUD-1" ( which measures Audio latency on IOS devices ) with buffer set to 64 - Sonic Port VX reports a latency delay of 519 Sample and 11.8ms Latency Delay Time  - I attribute the lower 11.8ms latency to the processing power of the iPhone 6 Plus (compared to member "Cell's 12.5 ms measurements with iPhone 5S)

Line-6 Sonic Port VX has  24 bit Audio, low noise Instrument preamp, and Stereo 3.5mm Line Input, a pair of Balanced TRS 1/4" Outputs for driving powered PA cabs, and a clean stereo Headphone Amp with TRS 3.5mm headphone output jack.

There are three internal condenser Mic capsules, and it makes good 24 bit recordings using various IOS apps.

It works well with all IOS Guitar Amp Sims I tried ( Line-6 Mobile POD, Yonac ToneStack, Positive Grid BIAS/ Jamup Pro)
My favorite IOS apps on my iPhone 6 plus to use with Sonic Port VX are Yonac ToneStack ( Guitar Amp sim/Stereo FX/recorder) and Harmonic Dog MultiTrack DAW.

I got a new micro USB cable - and now I can successfully use the the Line6 Sonic Port VX as a USB Class Compliant Audio Interface "- which means I can swap out the UA-22 Duo Capture EX and use the Line6 Sonic Port VX with a a powered USB Hub for Mobile Fishman Tripleplay on IOS rig.

But I love the UA-22 - as this provides a good backup and is easier to "restart" would power glitch occur mid set.

The Scarlett 2i4 has a bit higher audio performance - but you must follow a specific  order for powering up the  Powered USB Hub First,  and then connect the IOS device

So far for Fishman Tripleplay use on iPad , follow the steps in the link here to use a battery powered USB HUB and a USB Class Compliant Audio Interface

  5. Its possible your Tuning Selector is out of sync with the internal CPU

Factory Reset and Updating the Flash Memory

Q: Why doesn't the Factory Reset procedure described in the manual work?
A: The reset procedure described in the JTV manual was removed from the JTV guitars to make room in the memory for the Variax HD Acoustic models that were added in flash memory update v1.80. All JTV guitars with flash memory v1.80 and newer no longer have this factory reset procedure available.

To perform a factory reset, re-install, rollback, or update the flash memory on the James Tyler Variax guitars, please use the following link:

  6. I have played the 1st article of Antares Floor unit

    1417989490_633926875_20141206_164018.jpg

    - it will be on Display during 2015 Winter NAMM - contact Antares for details

Meanwhile the ATG-1 Floor pedal owners manual can be downloaded here:

    http://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php?topic=13067.0

It has Breathtaking clarity, totally pro, highest dynamic range  - no need for a "N.S." Noise Suppressor  as required for many of the Roland Boss COSM Guitar Models .

I can say I'm blown away with the ATG-1's detailed PU Modeling, Acoustic Guitar emulations, and many other features, real time controls -   High dynamic Range and its incredibly pro build quality. The Expression pedal mechanism has nothing to wear out and built like a tank

More details Coming as soon as I'm authorized to talk about it.

While demoing the ATG-1,  I got lost in composition ideas  - to be able to change the pitch / tuning / added 4th or 5th,  upper octave / lower octave - change the order of the 12 strings ( emulate the real Ricky electric 12 string and have Martin Acoustic guitar or a fingerstyle modes all with direct foot accessibility and / or Ipad control. with a Large clear Legible LCD display! I used my Godin xTSA with RMC Piezo, and the ATG-1's ability to go from vintage spank Strat to Dano Lipstick rockabilly, to Satriani Humbucker emulation  -feeding ATG-1 output into my Kemper or the Guitar In on Boss GP-10,or  a pair of real tube amps ( '66 Vox AC30 Top Boost and '66 Vibrolux Reverb)  as a test for stereo with each string panned in a stereo field array - amazing.

This will be a great product in 2015 .   Look for news during 2015 Winter NAMM - they will have an example for demo at the Hall Leonard booth, and contact Antares for invite to the Antares demo room suite at the Marriott

  7.

Who wants to damp the strings like that?  Seems like an april fools joke to me!

I guess none of you guys play with an EVH style  "tapping" technique, near the 12th fret , and place your ear near the fretboard and listen to the "two pitches" that occur per string - the one between the bridge and fret, and the other one between the fret and the Nut. Its the later that clobbers DSP alt tunings and yields Ghost Notes.

  8. My solution:

    1) Use locking tuners and less than one string wrap per tuning post

    2) Use string dampers  - many just use a hair scrunchy behind the Nut - to dampen strings

    GundyKeller.jpg

    Picture24-1.png

and there are commercial string dampers for MIDI Guitar use that also benefit Variax DSP Alt Tuning users

    Sonuus Buzznut String Dampener

    http://www.sonuus.com/products_accessories.html

    Products_Buznut.jpg

The Buznut Ultimate String Dampener (Patent Pending) was invented as a solution to those expensive, complicated, bulky and obtrusive dampening devises, which conceptually were ideal but in practicality did not appeal to a lot of Guitarists who just did not want to use them for fear of modifications and possible damage to their Guitars.

The Buznut string dampner does not require you to make any alteration to your guitar. You simply slide the strip under your strings. Once it is in position you dampen your strings by positioning the dampening bumps in the strip under your strings. While the strip is in position under your strings you can turn off the dampening by sliding the strip a tiny amount so that the dampening bumps on the strip now align with the gaps between your guitar strings. It really is that simple!

    Buznut_positions.jpg

    Sizes
There are two different sizes available. The Standard Strip (is defined with a ‘S’ on the back of the strip) will fit most Guitars with low to average action. The Custom Strip (with a ‘C’ on the back of the strip) will work best with Guitars with very low action.

Each pack contains two String Dampner Strips, either two Standard, two Custom or one of each.

  9. Fresh from the factory , The Variax "Model Knob" is often pressed on too hard, and this prevents the spring loaded push/push "up / down"  switch action of this important swtched Potentiometer,

Also be sure to remove any clear plastic protective film in the knob area ( more of a problem on JTV-69)

Often this can be corrected by gently pulling "up" on the model knob  - thus allowing the  full excursion of the "up / down"  switch action.

A quick press of the Model knob engages the Variax modeling tones  -and you should see lights!

  10. I suggest read my JTV-69 Tremolo Setup Guide here;

    http://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php?topic=9371.msg67477#msg67477

Change strings one at a time  - or place a small shim ( a stack of Post-it Notes!) under the rear edge of the tremolo plate to support it when changing strings -

The big issue with the JTV-69 is the tendency for stray String Ball Ends to migrate from the tremolo Block into the internal DSP cavity and end up touching and smoking the internal DSP PC Board  - which causes electrical problems!

  11. The JTV models are not built on a weekly basis  - instead Line6 places on order with World Music in Korea, and they are built in large batches.

When you register the guitar serial number is when you can determine if the guitar had a prior owner.

I know this is hard to hear , but the Tyler Variaxs are not "flying off the shelfs" at the local dealer, and most Dealers are simply trying to move existing inventory, some which have been sitting at the dealer for 3 years
